It’s every parents worst nightmare isn’t it? Our teens get to the stage of wanting to go away on holiday with a group of friends, and most of the time of course everything is fine and they have a great time.

This lad’s parents though must be suffering agonies. I do hope he’s soon found safe and well.

He has been found but not alive which is so sad. Condolences to his family.

It is a sad state of affairs but the boy in question had a questionable lifestyle and if you mix in those circles then you can never know what may happen.

It is the parents I feel sorry for because what he has done or not done, he is still their son.

I always say, there for the grace of God go I. Thankfully our sons grew into men to be proud of but it could have easily gone the other way especially when they started mixing with different types of people in their age group. We do try and raise our children with wisdom and knowledge, knowing right from wrong, but sadly, in many cases it does not work.

The parents may have some of the answers Callistemon just choose not to share them.
Well done to the Greek authorities who continued searching, they deserve credit for their perseverance.

Nineteen year olds are impulsive though, so it could also just be that he thought he could walk it back to his apartment, tripped off the road as he was doing so and fell into a ravine which was not visible. That would tie in with the account given by his friend of her phone call with him.
I’m finding the whole trial by social media experience wrong in so many ways, because it destroys peoples reputations even when the reason they meet their death could be unrelated to the conspiracy theories, I think the Nicola Bulley death left a really sour taste about how much harm it can do.

Yes, I think questions remain unanswered.

If I was Jsy Slater's parent I wouldn't give up until I had answers.

Assuming it is Jay Slater, I wonder why he would have taken the route he took. I still wonder about the two men who have been rather too smartly dismissed in my opinion. Why did he go with them? Why did he leave? And why didn’t they offer him a lift? Was he trying to escape from them? I feel they know more than they’ve said, at the very least why he left so early and why they didn’t give him a lift. And why he went with them in the first place.

People do not grieve any the less the loss of a child, nor is he more deserving of death because he had a record as a petty criminal.

He was only 19, he had an apprenticship and was being trained as a bricklayer. Many lads have a turbulent few years between 15 and 25 but grow up and mature in to good citizens, good partners and good parents. He clearly came from a warm and loving family.

Good post MOnica.

I think the body still has to be formally identified, but it is pretty certain it's young Jay Slater,

At the very least his parents will not now have to face a future of not knowing what happened to their son. Small consolation though it is.

I’m sure you’re right Daddima but trustworthy reports from tv news and newspapers could be relied on to be truthful, and they built up a certain picture of this lad.

Nevertheless, a very sad end to a life.

Surely that’s a contradiction in terms 🤷‍♀️

Very sad news for his family of course, but not unexpected once certain facts emerged about this lad.

I’m not sure that all the stuff which has appeared online can be classed as ‘facts’.
However, a young man has died, which is sad.

At least his family and friends now have an end to their story. It is the not knowing that is so dreadful.

They can now take him home and give him a funeral.

When I think of some of the things friends and I did at that age I can't t believe we were so stupid.

However, we never took drugs.

I don’t believe it’s fair to accuse the authorities of not looking hard enough. The terrain is dangerous. There was a delay in finding Dr Mosley despite the circumstances appearing more straightforward than those in Tenerife

No, it's not fair at all

Iam64 Mon 15-Jul-24 15:22:15

Mosley died from natural causes according to news reports. He set off at mid day in heat, to walk two km to his holiday accommodation on Symi. His body was found four days later in an area previously searched
We know searches in the UK have sometimes failed despite best efforts

yes you are right

I suppose we need to remind our young people to stick together on nights out. I remember one night out my friend left with a group of men in a car and I had to get taxi home alone and I never forgave her. Firstly I was worried about her and secondly I was left to travel home alone putting me at risk too as there was all sorts of stuff about local taxi drivers at the time.

JaneJudge Mon 15-Jul-24 15:15:16

Micheal Moseley got lost didn't he, in hot sun?

Thank you, I must have missed that.

We mustn't speculate but even sensible older adults make strange decisions or become disorientated sometimes.

Jay's decisions ending in him losing his life.

JaneJudge Mon 15-Jul-24 15:06:50

I bet the real Johnny Vegas is horrified about this confused
It is awful though. I was reminded of this thread when they said he was found near to where his mobile last had signal and someone mentioning on here that maybe they hadn't looked hard enough <a man look> awful for his family

Iam64 Mon 15-Jul-24 15:02:52

Callistemon, Johnny Vegus is a name used by one of the two men
I’ve wondered whether after a few days of ‘parting’ and no sleep, jay was in any state to be making decisions. He’s young but few 19 year olds would decide to walk 11 miles in mountainous wild hot conditions rather than sleep under shade till the next bus or a friend arrived to pick him up

Johnny Vegas? confused

The name of one of the two airbnb men. I read that the Police had been ‘ discreetly’ searching, to prevent the area being invaded by sightseers.
So, with the Princess of Wales having been seen alive and well at Wimbledon, the TikTok detectives will have to go back to Madeleine McCann.
