Missing lad in Tenerife, Jay Slater

It’s every parents worst nightmare isn’t it? Our teens get to the stage of wanting to go away on holiday with a group of friends, and most of the time of course everything is fine and they have a great time.

This lad’s parents though must be suffering agonies. I do hope he’s soon found safe and well.

There has been a lot of background information on MN, about a court case when a 17 year old teen was chased by a terrifying mob of thugs, a machete was used to split victim`s skull, smirking in court and also just giving etc.

The parents must be frantic with worry, especially after the death of Michael Mosley. Unfortunately we cannot wrap either our children or grandchildren in cotton wool.

I hope he is found safe and well.

BlueBelle Sat 22-Jun-24 10:26:43

All my children and grandchildren had been away on holidays with friends by age 17 /18 and yes me too
yes you do worry so much but you have to let them fly

I truly think he set off on a unforgiving and unattainable 10 hour walk to get back to base and just like Michael Mosley he completely misjudged the heat, the energy needed, the clothes and the distance

Jay Slater's mother thinks he's been abducted. The conspiracists are out en masse.

MissInterpreted Sat 22-Jun-24 10:49:06

I think there's a lot more to this one than meets the eye. Yes, some of the stuff on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook is conspiracy theory gone wild, but I don't think it's just quite as simple as your average missing person case.

HelterSkelter1 Sat 22-Jun-24 10:49:20

I can't imagine how his mother and friends are feeling. This landscape and weather are unforgiving to the unprepared.

I hope his situation can be discussed in schools. I hope time and teaching staff can be allocated. No sense in teaching only academic stuff if kids die on holiday for lack of knowledge of how hot and hostile these holiday Islands are away from the busy coast. And how kids on holiday must stay together. I wouldn't have known any of this at his age.
They must be taught basic elements of looking after themselves.
But even M Mosley got it tragically wrong.

Maybe we all need a course in self preservation.

This is all so sad.

Unfortunately I think this is a similar case to that of Michael Mosley. The boy had no water, only 1% on his phone, and set off, apparently over the mountains, on an eleven hour walk, without proper clothing or equipment, and without knowing the way presumably. The days are very hot, the nights very cold.
Sadly I don’t think there’ll be a happy ending to this, but I continue to hope until proven wrong. 🙏

Maybe teach them if you take part in gang attacks with weapons, supply class A drugs and don't do you're homework you'll likely get yourself into all sorts of bother.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 10:59:19

I agree maddy.

JenniferEccles Sat 22-Jun-24 11:01:35

He went off with two men in a car apparently, leaving his friends behind at the music festival. I don’t know if the police have managed to trace these men.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-Jun-24 11:06:14

I think Jay Slater is more than capable of taking care of himself.

The X accounts of his friends make interesting reading.

He has a conviction along with four friends for attacking a 17 year old boy with a machete, axe and golf club. The victim had his skull split.

I think that more needs to be taught in schools about looking after oneself when out and about. A number of young people tend to feel they're omnipotent and it 'won't happen to them'.

At college I attended a course on how to look after oneself when out and about. A lot of it was based on common sense but there were suggestions as to look after oneself. Mind you this was over 50 years ago!!!!!!!!!!

There’s a significant back story here.

I agree maddyone

Something doesn’t quite sit right about this case.

Galaxy Sat 22-Jun-24 11:19:09

Yes not sure wilderness survival tips would help in this case. It seems to be much more complex that that.

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 11:19:20

Oh, I didn’t know anything about any of that GG. It might give the story about him leaving with two men more credence. I don’t know. Whatever has happened I don’t think there’ll be a happy ending.

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 11:20:11

Maybe my original assessment was too naive.

Yes there is.

I do not trust the young woman who has been interviewed by the media but refuses to show her face. She has alleged that she was the last person to talk to Jay Slater, she is the one saying he went off in a car with two men after the after party

I assume the police would have been able to trace them if they were staying in the accommodation next to the lady who saw him at the bus stop. He also posted a selfie on his social media account from outside the accommodation.

Another GFM page with 30K plus already.

The boy was in Tenerife for nefarious reasons.

This is not just a missing boy.

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 11:42:30

Why was he in Tenerife do you think Sago?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-Jun-24 11:42:36

Unfortunately Sago I think you are correct.

I feel for his parents though, they must be in shreds

maddyone Sat 22-Jun-24 11:43:04

Do you think it’s to do with drugs?

Jaxjacky Sat 22-Jun-24 11:44:36

Allegedly the two men he went off with flew back to the UK early last week, 5/6 days before their villa rental ended.

Indeed a lot more going on than is being reported GG
