Missing lad in Tenerife, Jay Slater

It’s every parents worst nightmare isn’t it? Our teens get to the stage of wanting to go away on holiday with a group of friends, and most of the time of course everything is fine and they have a great time.

This lad’s parents though must be suffering agonies. I do hope he’s soon found safe and well.

Another GFM page with 30K plus already.

The boy was in Tenerife for nefarious reasons.

This is not just a missing boy.

Well obviously we don't know what happened but in any disappearance case you have to ask: "When did the trouble start?"

In my opinion the men Jay was staying with should have offered him a ride. They should have offered to charge his phone. Given him a bottle of water..

But I was just wondering why they took him home in the first place. Maybe we will never know

The question isn’t ’why did they take him home’ but rather ‘ why did he go’? ?
He was in his 1st foreign holiday with friends & went off with 2 people he had just met , got in a car & not knowing where to !
Maybe , he left in a hurry in the morning, though it wasn’t that early as buses were running every 10 minutes, why didn’t he wait for a bus ?
Did he even have money on him ?
He might have had access to his bank card on his phone that had died , maybe for not waiting for a bus as it’s been reported that he was told they were every 10mins .
There was a shop or cafe of some sort that was due to open at 10am common sense would of dictated he could wait for it to open , ask for water & possibly charge his phone or just ask for help .
Even so , he made an error of judgement leaving a club with people he didn’t know plus making the decision to ‘walk’ when he wasn’t even aware of his location .
He was probably disoriented by any number of things , drugs, drink, maybe he had been spiked .
Whatever it is incredibly sad & a lesson for all first time teens going it alone abroad 🙏

Sadly , I also think the ending will not be a good one . Going off with 2 people he had just met didn’t sound good . When you add the supposition of drugs to the mix plus setting off to walk in high temperatures with no water in an area of dangerous terrain , that’s all enough to tell you the ending .
The conviction is not good , though I’m not sure that it would have anything to do with his not being found or being missing !
Last night we went for a family meal with 3 Twenty plus aged relations , they all think it was / is drug related with one exception being a ‘ kidnapping ‘ also that the ‘friends’ aren’t telling the whole
Story .
Very sad no the less for the family & even worse all the online trolls 👿

If you were in a bar and saw somebody who was currently front page headlines and costing the local police a lot of time and effort to find, you would contact the police straight away and tell them, surely?

and that is exactly what happened if you read article!

That’s not what the article said lemsip, it said police had interviewed several witnesses, but not that they were contacted while he was allegedly in the bar, the evidence was the video footage.

Well,he didn’t think he needed rescuing … x

Police are probably inundated with sightings whilst they've been busy rescuing a Scotsman who didn't need rescuing.

I very much doubt he was too!

maddyone Wed 26-Jun-24 11:14:49

I very much doubt Jay Slater was watching the Euros.
I do wonder why the two men were allowed to leave Tenerife the day after his disappearance.

The trouble is that young guys like Jay all look very similar these days, slim ,wearing shorts and the same haircut.
If he had been able to get back to where he was staying he would have done.Everything points to a tragic outcome sadly.
Only the other day a 51 year old hiker was rescued in the same area as where Jay went missing, disoriented and dehydrated in a gorge.

Mr Larkin, an experienced hiker, has told the media he was fully equipped, experienced, regularly used and knew the trails and definitely didn't need rescuing. He was neither thirsty nor disoriented.

There are two Gareth Southgates in Germany as well!

Callistemon213 Wed 26-Jun-24 10:48:27

I'm surprised the Spanish police let those two men he went off with return to the UK.
Should they have confiscated their passports until more investigations were done?

Iam64 Wed 26-Jun-24 10:23:25

The way so many young men create similar hair cuts, clothes etc was my first thought Oreo, there must be hundreds of 19 year olds with that look in Tenerife watching the euros

I’m wait and see on where he is, what’s happened to him. I bet the Spanish search and rescue teams are fed up with his friends arriving to search for him

Yes, I noticed that. A lot of money for an apprentice bricklayer, though could be a cheap fake I suppose. It’s my belief that this whole thing is a set up.

But if you’re into drugs or high on drink Comrade and we don’t know that but it’s been inferred in many of the newspaper write ups you wouldn’t be thinking as we are You would probably feel invincible and the other men may have been fast asleep when he left,
Who knows we are all just pedalling in the dark.
