Takeaways are rip offs

Where I live now you can literally order the whole world's cuisine

We have found a very nice Chinese and a very nice Bangladesh/Indian fusion takeaway and the biryani is absolutely divine. It is lamb and chicken tikka with a lamb kofte with a really fresh vegetable curry, always piping hot on delivery. Even the fish and chip shop delivery. I could get really fat if I wanted to

Haven't had a takeaway for years. Would rather cook something at home or go to a restaurant.

We like takeaways but don't do takeaway deliveries, as where we get takeaways we enjoy their food and much prefer that the takeaway establishment to actually get all the money for the food!
The delivery companies! Now there's the ripoff! Demand ridiculous amounts to deliver lukewarm food! What has to be the absolute absurdity was the popular fish and chip shop that had an order for delivery immediately opposite, across the road! As the owner said, "We can't afford not to offer through the delivery companies but they charge extortionate prices".
Oh, except for our Chinese. We go for delivery as they use their own guy - and the food's always piping hot

We don’t eat takeaways at all.Too expensive, mediocre meals and we have dietary requirements.

Slightly off piste.
DD ordered a takeaway last weekend and when it didn't arrive, she called the takeaway establishment.
She was told it had been delivered to the wrong house, so she and SIL, went to retrieve it.
The elderly gentleman, who opened the door, told them he had thrown it in the bin, because He hadn't ordered one!.
Why didn't he just refuse delivery. 😡

BTW, my daughter is not too lazy to cook, she leaves the house at 6am and is not back until 7pm. This was a payday treat.

having written my piece y'day, i found myself drawn to repeat the activity last night.
didn't really need it, but enjoyed it, and some walking.
by the way, they are iranians, i asked them, and apologised for thinking they might be iraqi.
charming as ever, they smiled and said, it's next door.
it's pizza go go, but i guess prices are variable in different outlets.
must try to learn the farsi for thank you.

Iam64 it certainly takes the pressure off - and as there's a lot of us it means we can do our own little Christmas dinners the following day.

Takeaways do really have a place in some of our lives.

Check out online reviews before you get takeaways, I find the prices are a rip off, portions are smaller, and the quality is lower in the last few years, they are not as tasty as they used to be either. Bit disappointing, so I'm not having them anymore

Perhaps we think of fish and chips in a class of their own and everything else is takeaway.

That sounds good NotSpaghetti. Two years ago, first Christmas soon after mr I died, we wanted to be together but avoid cooking. We agreed on an Indian from our local Sais Spice. It was so good we repeated last Christmas Eve

We usually have a take-away supper with our massive family on Christmas Eve. We have had Chinese, Indian, Sushi, Greek - all sorts. We order from home and then collect as that way it is still nice and hot (obviously not the sushi!)

We exchange gifts and good wishes and get home for a nice simple Christmas Day.

i get a mini pizza from half a mile up the road, and often walk back munching it out of the box.
no washing up is generated.
it's good value, £3, with 2 toppings and choice of sauce.
they are nice people, iraqi i think.
they do mostly deliveries, but i always come in person.
there are a few stools and a ledge to lean on if eating in.
suits me.

Rip off is a good enough term for the team to utter on rip off Britain (not that I ever watched it) Takeaways, aren’t as good value due to the cost of ingredients, some have switched to cheap brand oils. Our Chinese that was really good before Covid is charging more, for a much smaller portion. price that was £12 is now £22, plus tip for the driver. I started watching YouTube clips on Indian cooking, rather cook my own now 😊

Funnily enough, I am surprised at the amount of people who have never had a takeaway.

That isn’t being judgemental at all, it is just I thought everyone did occasionally, I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t ever.

We have had a very few takeaway. However takeaway is not at all convenient out here in the fields. I find mid-warm food an unacceptable way to spend our money.

We love a takeaway usually have one on a Friday watch a film and enjoy a variety in our area in Southampton rarely disappointed we have Indian Chinese mexican Italian greek love them all

I think David posted what he did to wind us up. It works very well.

I am in awe of anyone who has lived their whole life in Britian and has never been to a fish and chip shop and bought fish and chips.

They must have had a youth of all surpassing virtue.

I don't go on holiday.

Instead, I sit around in a too tight leotard at home, which has a liberal sprinkling of sand in all of "those" unmentionable places.

I run briskly on the spot until I'm red in the face, and place my legs in front of the oven whilst I'm batch cooking from scratch.

After I've done that, I walk self consciously with a bath towel as a home made sarong, to my bedroom, where I take almost all of my clothes out of the wardrobe so I can stuff them in an old cardboard box when they're grubby and rumpled enough to need washing and ironing again.

Then I run down the hall, with my asrms sretched our, while bowing a big raspberry.
I put on a film and ask my Gransden to come and sit directly in front of me as I try to watch,

He then sits right behind me and kicks me up the bum for the final leg of my journey, intermittently crying.

Bliss!

Very, very rarely have a takeaway. Limited choice I think puts me off. Takeaways are popular, I know, but with all the gripes about cost of living I don't know how folk still partake. Same with all the coffees I notice people carrying out and about.ofcourse they will have been hard at work for 6 hours without breakfast or a break.

I’m talking about never ever had a takeaway. Surely most people have eaten fish and chips?
