I'm not defending that comment on here which belittled AR - I just don't understand why there is no outrage at her cheap, sexist, shot at Sunak.
(I haven't seen the comment(s) about illegitimate children on here?)
Perhaps if you didn't see the 'illegitimate' children comment you won't understand the anger and outrage. I'm not sure, but I think it was deleted.
AR has been accused of so many things because she is Northern and from a working class background. Crossing and uncrossing her legs to distract male MPs on the other side of the house is one that springs to mind 🙄. She takes it all on the chin with good humour, and her making a jibe at Sunak for his height seems to me to be tame in comparison. My understanding is that there is little animosity between the sides of the house on a personal level, so that was taken as a joke, but if not, it wasn't sexist. But in any case, there is nothing we can do about sexism and/or jokes in the HOC - they have rules there, as GN has them on here.
I can't remember, but I'd guess that something was said on here about the comment at the time, and also Sunak was there to defend himself and the comment was very public. This is different, as it was said on here where GN rules apply, AR can't defend herself and the comment has apparently been deleted, so it seems that people are commenting without having seen it.
Anyway, you either understand what I am saying or you don't. There is no point in my repeating myself, as to me it's very simple, and we seem to be saying two different things. The comments about AR being a 'tart' because of her dress and because she had an 'illegitimate' child were sexist, unpleasant and very mean-spirited and snobbish, and they weren't a 'heat of the moment' thing - they were not said in isolation, and the poster doubled down when called out. Whether I or anyone else saw fit to comment on something that happened in the HOC has no bearing on that, and does not excuse it or make it ok.
I will say no more, as people seem to be trying to prevent others from having a say by filibustering, and I can't be bothered to play games. I hope we can agree to differ.
