Madeleine: that reduced me to tears. How terribly disappointing. If you have a dog or two, they are very generous about accepting your woes and will give you huge cuddles.

Single track road behaviour seems to vary from county to county. When I lived in Suffolk, tractors always pulled over to let faster vehicles pass. Moving to Sussex, they would not budge and just stuck to the middle of the road. Maybe taking lessons from the alien visitors, who haven't a clue!!

It is mid afternoon and absolutely arctic here in South Norfolk. I am wearing a winter woolly, with a blanket over my legs! Absurd for July.

That's just so sad Madeleine. We all feel for you in that situation. I do hope something can be rearranged soon

Hoping everyone has a good weekend.

good to read all your messages and a good morning to you all from a rather dull and chilly north yorks and it looks as though it is about to rain too. I am feeling rather down today. Havent seen my son and family since before christmas due to illness etc etc and my son rang and we arranged to meet at Kirby Lonsdale, which is about halfway between us at 1pm yesterday. Felt very excitied and rushed about collecting the christmas presents and other things to give him and thinking how much my grandson would enjoy opening them etc. Set off in good time but up the dales they had closed the main road completely and not given any warning further back. We had to go on a single track road with passing places, to be able to continue. Doesnt bother me , I am used to such roads but it was chaos as there were a lot of agricultural traffic trying to get on with work, and usual stuff like the post van. We all know how to carry on on this sort of road but then there were people in motorhomes who obviously didnt know the width of their vehicles or the etiquette of how to go on on these roads. Then when I got back on a wider road there were three cars towing caravans in a row with a lorry behind them . They never pulled into a layby to let traffic by them as tractors would do and so consequently I was late getting to our meeting and he had to go home., so didnt see him which was very disappointing. My back and my leg were giving me a lot of pain and I went to have a coffee and then drove back at least by my beloved swaledale, which cheered me a little. But I had missed something else to go to meet him and so it was a total mess as I had spent all that money on fuel, travelled a long way and put up with the pain and didnt even get to see him and dont know now when we can next arrange to meet. Well thanks for letting me go on about it. When you live alone you cant even moan to someone can you? Lets hope the weekend improves !

Good morning all from - yes - a grey, wet, breezy and chilly Angus coast. Sadly it's much the same in Notts where New Man's No2 son is celebrating his 18th with a family barbecue. Never mind, I'm sure the sun will put in an appearance at the appropriate time this afternoon 🤞

No news from here - just housework and tennis watching for me. Tennis is the only sport I can bear to watch - there seems to be some really good up and coming players this year to replace the old cohort.

Was very tired last night after our singing group concert - a lot of standing did my back no good but a solid night’s sleep has helped. Beginning to think I am not up to such performances any more which is very sad, but we’ll see.

Damp morning so a domestic day before going to a recital in our church. This is a fund raiser for Parkinson’s so I absolutely must support it - it would be so wonderful if it became possible to catch this awful illness early and stop it in its tracks, and the research is starting to look promising.

In the greenhouse the tomatoes and cucumbers are promising a good crop , the sun on the roof is helpful
My pelargoniums are not liking being outside , I saved them from last year because they are so cheerful , but now the leaves are very dark but the scarlet flowers are still pretty good
I’ve been outside watering all the pots , the rain can’t get through the foliage

Good morning from a dull and rainy Black Country. It was quite pleasant yesterday until 5pm when the rain started.

DS rang about 8.30am for a chat which is unusual. He was walking the dog at the time!

Had a walk into town with my friend and we booked a trip to Chatsworth in November.

Then an afternoon sitting in the garden reading my book.

No real plans today, housework, strip bed etc.

Good morning from Durham. It’s overcast, but somehow bright and thankfully the wind has dropped.
Breakfast this morning with DD2 and DGS2, then I’ll see how the day unfolds.
I usually see BF several times a week, but I seem to have had such a busy few weeks that it’s dropped to once weekly. Must remedy that, so I’ll see if she’s free later.
Hope our holiday makers are enjoying their breaks and may things improve for our bad backs and knees contingent.

We had a sparrow hawk fly into our conservatory and hit the back window . We weren’t in there at the time (TG) and when we came back in, the poor thing was dead lying with his neck broken on the back of the sofa. Just lying there as if asleep. It was so beautiful.

Good morning everyone from a wet northwest coast.

It was nice to have a trip with the art group to the Van Gogh immersive experience yesterday but we were rather underwhelmed, it looks better in the trailer than in real life so when the Monet comes round, I will probably give it a miss. We had an Italian meal and I wore the jazzy skirt I bought in Ibiza recently, it seemed to go with the arty day!

Quiet day today as out for the day again tomorrow. Take it easy Mizuna and thoughts to all🌺

Good morning from a wet and loony Oxfordshire, it rained most of the day yesterday too.

We are dog sitting A friend of a friends dog for the fternoon and evening, he’s a live wire and will probably be in and out of the garden in the rain, lovely, a wet dog is all I need.

Good morning from a now sunny Suffolk after heavy rain last eve Ning and during the night I think looking at the puddles on the drive.

The local farmer will be relieved he harvested 3 huge rape fields on Thursday as it has been wet and damp since then. As we went to bed after listening to the exit polls we could hear the combine harvester in the field furthest away from us at 11pm.

A very strange thing happened yesterday when I was out. DH was in the sitting room when he heard a very loud thump on the kitchen window. He thought something had banged into it and it must be broken. He found a Sparrowhawk in there fluttering around unhurt so he managed to wrap it carefully in a tea towel and put it outside by opening a window. He watched it fly away and it seemed fine.

The mystery is how it got into the house as no windows were open and the only possibility is down the chimney in the dining room. But there was no soot in the hearth or on the carpet and DH said the bird was unmarked. We also have a fire screen( one of those favoured years ago and ours embroidered by a friend’s grandmother) which leaves very little space all around…..it remains a mystery.

We know that the chimney pot is uncovered as high winds some time ago blew off the cowl and we’ve seen birds sitting on the edge before but never a Sparrowhawk. They and kestrels are around as the occasional pile of feathers in the garden is evidence of their hunting prowess,their victims …pigeons.

A quiet day here before DS and family visit tomorrow. Ironing and weeding if no more rain will fill the day easily.

Yesterday was grocery delivery and early evening we went see Imogen off to her prom, shame it was raining, a bevy of beautiful young women. She is on the left.

A quiet day is planned after a disturbed night. I coughed so much, I must have burst a blood vessel in my throat. I got a bit of a fright. Mr Grumpy, of course slept through it!
My phone call from the surgery was positive. After a chest xray, followed by a discussion with a GP ( not my own, but the senior partner), I will then be re-referred to the respiratory clinic.
It appears my own GP did not act on the advice of the cardiologist in December. I am pretty annoyed by this. I have been coughing non stop for hearty two years.

An unexpected visit from Dollie made my day yesterday. I think DS and DD needed a break after ten days of non stop chatter.
She was assigned housework tasks, ( finding the bits and bobs Babydoll had hidden and mopping the conservatory floor) and then we had an afternoon crafting. She was a delightful companion, I have missed her so much.
She posted on the family chat that she had vacuumed the whole house, when she had only hoovered up the crumbs from between the sofa cushions.🤭

I can now access the spare room again, so I plan to restore some order. Much to my surprise, the removal of the mattress was slick and efficient.
I too may bake!

Good morning all. Gloomy & wet here in Sefton. It looks set in for the day but sunny periods forecast for late afternoon. It is often sunny late afternoon here on the north west coast. Better late than not at all I suppose.
A quiet day yesterday after spending a large chunk of the night following the election. We're off to our local market town this morning. It's a few minutes drive away into rural Lancashire & its market day today. I suspect quite a few traders will not turn up as it's so wet. We will do a food shop as well. I hope the promised sunny periods turn up this afternoon. The garden is looking positively tropical. The mild wet weather has encouraged rampant growth which needs taming. Oh, it's now really bucketing down☔️. May curtail the market visit.
