I think many posters aren't aware of that keepingquiet (apt name!) and the fact posts can be published in other media outlets around the world.

This. I left the site a few years ago because I felt I had given too much information. When we are emotionally lost and vulnerable we reach out to others but it isn't always wise.

Luckily I fought my battles and hopefully will not have to fight them again but if I'm in need of some support in my personal life I won't ever post on social media again.

As ever, I’ve missed the deleted thread. Interesting point from Callistemon and Maw about the notion that an OP owns or hosts the thread they started.
The wrong trousers thread a case in point
I understand someone asking for a post, or a thread they started being deleted if it contained information that might identify them. Otherwise unless it’s deteriorated into an unedifying bun fight should it stand

Can't remember the exact title of that thread but it was about eating animals and an interesting discussion ensued with some historical and other facts.

Not overly controversial at all and a subject of interest.

I can understand it if someone feels that they may have given out too much personal information and would like the thread taken down for that reason, but to ask a short question with no opinion, then to ask for the thread to be taken down is puzzling.

I remember asking for a post to be taken down after thinking "perhaps I shouldn't have said that", ut despite pleas it remained.

I have often questioned the notion that the OP of any thread has any ownership of it.
Clearly there will be times when a thread with eg a specific question, has run its course and is no longer relevant. What to wear to a wedding for instance.
Curiously, these threads often stay up with comments added months or even years later!
A moratorium on such threads would make sense.
On the other hand, there are threads where the OP may not like what they are hearing and asks for the whole thread to be pulled - and I would question that.
Or there are threads where OP feels they somehow “host” the thread and seem to feel obliged to comment on each and every post as it occurs, even “thanking” posters for dropping by.
And there are normal threads- those where comments or advice or reactions remain relevant to the vast majority of posters, entertaining, useful and pertinent - and I remain grateful for these! !
