A little prick in bed!

Friday 2am turned over in bed felt a little prick on side of tummy. Ignored it and went back to sleep. Got up in morning and I had a lot of pain and noticed a thumb size red mark which was only slightly itchy. Then I noticed a dead spider in my bed.

Fast forward 4 days I have a rash 6 inches by 4 inches hot and painful. Despite using antihistamine tablets and cream it’s turned into cellulitis. Now on antibiotics which are causing side effects.

The moral of the story please be careful of spiders.

Right,! So check those duvets and pillows.😮

I check everything first.
Sleeves, pockets, bras, bedding.
They'll be wanting to come and, live in our homes, soon. Shudder!

I’m feeling so grotty that I tried to make it light hearted.

Glad I fooled some of you.

I woke up one morning with something that looked like a bite on my face but didn't really think I had been bitten. It was worse next day so popped in to see the pharmacist and he said I should have come in earlier. He recognised it as a spider's bite and said it would get worse if not treated as soon as possible.

I was bitten by a small spider years ago at my mums caravan.
it then went itchy, as the day moved on my hand started to swell up. By the time we got home (about an hours away it was like half an egg on the back of my hand.

Called in at the docs(as you could do those days)the doc put a pen mark where the poison or what ever had tracked and said if it goes past that then go to A n E.

Had anti biotics but it took for ever to go down.
This was in the UK by the way, Ingleton so BEWARE if visiting Ingleton shock

Won't tell you how it went down but it wasn't pleasant.

Really interested to read this. For the last two years I have had red, itchy skin round my throat and up to my cheeks that lasted for about 2 months. The first time it happened I thought I had been bitten by a mosquito, as I had a red, itchy bump on my throat at the beginning. Never crossed my mind it could be a spider.

One night I woke and sat up suddenly in the early hours. I thought I was dreaming but had the sensation of something brushing my face. When I got out of bed the next morning there was a very large, flattened spider at shoulder level in the bed. It must have fallen when I sat up then I lay down and squashed it 🕷️

Wish I hadn’t opened this thread, I thought you were just disappointed. 🤣

Hate spiders. 😱

CanadianGran Thu 18-Jul-24 17:12:02

I should not have opened this post! This is my one irrational fear.

Rekarie Thu 18-Jul-24 16:53:00

They have 8 eyes as well.

I'm not bothered by them but I might take a bit more care before I leap into bed now!

ixion Thu 18-Jul-24 16:52:37

I so wish I hadn't read this😱

I've never been scared of spiders but this is certainly food for thought.. I wasn't aware spiders could actually harm us in the UK.. I hope you recover quickly

BlueBelle Thu 18-Jul-24 16:45:25

I thought someone was being rude about their husband when I read the title 🤣🤣🤣

TerriBull Thu 18-Jul-24 16:43:17

Commiserations sounds awful hope it wasn't a False Widow. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I did wonder given the somewhat double entendre title of the thread just what was going to be revealed shock

downtoearth Thu 18-Jul-24 16:33:46

Love the title of the threadgrin

Oh you poor thing, I hope it all clears up soon.
I have been bitten by a spider, ungrateful little beastie I was trying to rescue it!

RosiesMaw2 Thu 18-Jul-24 11:57:22

Ooh you are naughty! 😊😊

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jul-24 11:57:10

Oh, thanks for that extra info. smile

I'm sure the one I last had in my flat could have done some damage.

It was huge!!!!!

MissAdventure

I'm sure I read somewhere that all spiders are poisonous, it's just the fact that they are so small that means they aren't dangerous to us.
Venomous, I think is the right term. Whichever.
Eight legs is enough for me to be petrified of them.

All apart from two species of spiders have venom glands.

Some are more deadly than others.

How robust your immune system is will determine whether or not you react to spider bites.

I really hate spiders!!! They are not as cute as some people think.

AGAA4 Thu 18-Jul-24 11:05:45

Yes spiders do bite. My DH was bitten by one when he was removing it from the house in his hands. I heard him say Ouch and there was a trickle of blood on his hand.
I always remove them with small bowl and piece of card.

MayBee70 Thu 18-Jul-24 10:37:04

I’m currently terrified of ticks ever since I found one on my leg a couple of years ago. I’ve sent away for some special socks that repel them as I’m scared of walking through fields of long grass.

Shinamae Thu 18-Jul-24 10:35:24

About Three years ago, I pulled back my duvet ready to get into bed and a bloody great spider came galloping up the bed and disappeared down the back of the headboard
Since then, I do not get into bed until I’ve checked the pillows and pulled the duvet right back to check…🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️
