Soap storyline - positive sign of our times

I know there is a thread for TV etc on here, but I think this is bigger than that and a true reflection of cultural change in our society.

There is a storyline in Corrie where one of the characters has Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In recent months the story has focused on diagnosis and impact, sensitively exploring the issues and raising awareness of this devastating disease.

Last night’s episode was extremely poignant, telling the love story between the man living with MND, Paul, and his husband, Billy. I couldn’t help but think, this is a really positive reflection of changes in society. It wasn’t a ‘gay love story’, it was a ‘love story’ - their sexuality was really immaterial. There’s no way this story would have been told like this even twenty years ago. The wheels turn slowly, but it’s good to see we are becoming a kinder and more tolerant society (sometimes).

Well said Mamma! I fully agree.

It's being portrayed well on Corrie, I think. The actor playing Paul is very good. Anything that brings awareness to this dreadful disease and hopefully helps to raise funds for research is very welcome indeed.

I agree Mamma66. Tolerance and respect for other's choices have increased since I was young: something to celebrate.
