Thanks everyone. I won’t let it spoil my relationship with DIL maybe they are just unfriendly. No cultural differences, even step mum was invited. It’s just so alien to me as I don’t like to leave anyone out. Nothing as strange as people.

Tallullah21 - was the baby shower just for her side of the family? I think in some cultures, they keep the celebrations separate. This is because, more often than not, the ‘husband’s side of the family’ are strangers to the ‘wife’s side’ (family and friends).

I see my DIL every week and look after their 3 year old. Her family live further away so don’t see them very often. They had a very small baby shower in my garden during lockdown and her family all came, ate my food etc. I just can’t get my head round it. Most important thing though is a healthy baby and mum.

My daughter-in-law has had one for each baby - organised by her mother.
I was told by my daughter I had to go the 1st time.
I can't see the attraction at all.

I must confess I’m feeling a bit hurt. DIL’s family organised a baby shower and didn’t invite me. I was under the impression that we got on quite well. What do others think. I’m trying to just let it go.

Do you get invited to other things?

Is your dil not from the Uk, in which case things may be done differently?

If there isnt a good reason, I would find that hurtful as well.

I understand why you're hurt Tallulah but try and let it go and look forward to being a GM .

Without them where would we be? They are the bedrock of society and those struggling should get more support.
