What would you swear on? (Light hearted)

I would swear on my word and know that I would have to tell the truth. I don't tell lies.

I might tell a child that their squiggly painting is lovely and obviously a dolphin in a dress, or pretend to like a meal someone has cooked, but I don't count them as lies. If I say something is true, however, then as far as I can tell, it really is the case, particularly if I've sworn it.

I read in the newspaper today that a juror swore by the river he lives on (in a houseboat) to do his best to uphold justice while serving on the jury. He explained that he asked himself what was most important to him and decided it was the river. Fair dos.

At age 72, I'm not going to be called for jury service but, hypothetically, I'm considering the magnificent trees that line the road on the approach to the village where I live. I marvel at them every time I return home. They are enormous, deep green and kind of brooding.

So, remembering not to take this too seriously, what would you swear by?

(My son asks what's wrong with just declaring that you will do your best to uphold truth, the law and justice? Maybe that's allowed...)
