Andy Burnham has told the public not to stockpile alcohol in the event of a national crisis.

The Prime Minister said it should not be a priority when preparing an emergency box of supplies
Under a new government campaign, households are being urged to stockpile food and water in case everyday services are disrupted by cyber attacks.
The guidance advises stocking up on three days’ worth of bottled water and non-perishable food, cash, and a battery or wind-up FM radio to receive updates during outages

Spoilsport sad

I use vodka as a cleaning supply and I am going to need to keep it real clean to stay safe in an emergency. grin

I’m sure many in Parliament have well stocked cellars, particularly if they have a large house in the countryside. Are those cellars considered stockpiling or are they just Connoisseurs?

Tworedroses Fri 23-Oct-26 13:41:40

Oh gosh, so if the PM has said not to stockpile, then of course we mustn’t. 🤣🤣

To use an expression of my teen GC Andy Burnham can do one

Sainsbury’s has 25% of wine at the moment and if this winter is going to be as dire as predicted I shall definitely need alcohol…

I think a glass of wine or two would go a long way to alleviate the sheer monotony of having to live of non perishables if that were to stretch into days, hopefully not weeks, in which case the entire cellar utility room cupboard and garage would need to be restocked shock

We have no such advice here in Ireland, much more practical heregrin

Oldnproud Fri 23-Oct-26 13:53:41

I wonder if he knows something we don't - I'm wishing I'd ordered more wine with my Wednesday delivery now grin wine

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Oct-26 13:54:30

Don’t forget the paracetamol for the following morning 💊🤕

Grannybags Fri 23-Oct-26 14:05:27

We always have a stock of alcohol - purely for medicinal purposes of course!

TerriBull Fri 23-Oct-26 14:15:42

Ooops that should read live off not of and I haven't even touched the wine yet. Never before 6. Pm that is, not am shockanyway that's my motto, unless out to lunch when that rule can be relaxed. Might need to be relaxed a lot more if these dire warnings become a reality grin

I put a 3 litre box (they’re back in fashion again!) of rosé blush in the fridge just yesterday, before Burnham cautioned me. 🤣

Sadly I can't drink alcohol any more as it causes stomach issues so you can have my share of the alcohol allowance.
I did really enjoy a glass of wine 😥

Fallingstar Fri 23-Oct-26 14:20:01

I don’t drink either but will be stockpiling chocolate and cheese.
Two of life’s essentials in a crisis.
