Very handy having gender neutral changing rooms, Dads can now try things on with small children shopping with separate changing cubicles

Wish they would do this for toilets too, my poor husband when we had 2 small daughters unable to toilet themselves

It may be handy occasionally but women need safe spaces.
Many Asian women and women who have been sexually assaulted will have to self exclude.
How is this fair?

And what about the other side of the story.

So men have their own loos and none for women unless they share with everybody else. Women really are being pushed out.

That is truly insulting, Candelle

We were at the Barbican earlier in the week for a show and before it began I thought that I would use the loo. Asking where I should go I was directed up two flights of stairs and eventually (after asking a barman where the ladies loos were) found them.
First came 'Mens', second were 'Changing Room for Babies' and third and obviously even further away, was not 'Ladies' but 'Gender Neutral' loos. I asked two nearby staff where the Ladies loos were to be told that there were not any. Running rapidly out of time I entered this set of loos to find around 10-12 cubicles, each with its own loo and sink - so much slower as one has to wait until hands have been washed etc., before a cubicle was freed up. I raced back down to the stalls arriving just as the show commenced.

In theory these 'Gender Neutral' loos should have been fine but in practice it was uncomfortable to be in a queue into a set of loos with men.

Thinking further, if men had wanted to urinate, they presumably would have used the 'Mens' loos with urinals, so the men in this queue needed to have an um, longer stay - which impacted on the poor women in the queue hopping up and down for a quick wee.

This situation (being directed up two flights to only a few loos) was apparently unusual as half of the building had been roped off for a graduation ceremony earlier in the day and that part of the building contained a much larger bank of loos.

I may write to the Barbican asking who on earth decided that it is fine for women waiting to urinate to wait but not men? I love men (well, a few of them) but I am interested to know if the architect was male or female! We need our own spaces.

No, I would have left too.

Haven't been in a Primark for many years. I used to go occasionally with my friend who used to shop there for her DD who was a student at the time.
She made me laugh because she said she cut the labels out before she sent them to her, because her DD would never wear anything from Primark as it was not ethical,

I too believe women need women only spaces, and why not let there be gender neutral spaces too, in some public buildings in Brighton there are gender neutral toilets alongside the gents and ladies. Why mix it up?
Give women the choice.
I personally would feel awkward in a changing rooms where trans women with men’s tackle were changing as well.

I’m in love with the internet! My shopping comes to my door!

Patsy70 Fri 02-Aug-24 19:39:13

I would have done exactly the same Sago. It’s quite rare that I actually go shopping for anything other than food and household items these days.

The woman who has just been given 10 years for shoplifting on an industrial scale.
There was a previous incident similar to this a few years ago and i wondered then why can't retailers adjust their IT systems so that when an item is returned it is swiped through their tills to see whether or not it has actually been purchased in the first place.

Not relevant to this thread.
Why not start your own thread?

I don't use changing rooms any more and just buy something if I like it then take it back if I change my mind.

The Primark sale is quite amusing. They may as well give the things away 😂

Cossy Fri 02-Aug-24 19:20:00

I too would want women only changing rooms and I also prefer gender specific loos too.

I’m not a great fan of same sex communal changing either! I like my own space and a bit of privacy

LauraNorderr Fri 02-Aug-24 19:16:55

I experienced the same thing Sago and I reacted the same way.
Won’t shop there again. Mostly rubbish anyway.

charley68 Fri 02-Aug-24 19:15:05

Primark seem to have this policy.

I agree, I am a woman and I want single sex spaces too.

Sago Fri 02-Aug-24 19:12:53

Today I was in Primark (not proud of this and please don’t judge).
I chose some items and went to the fitting rooms, when I asked tha assistant which was the women’s she announced with pride they were all gender neutral.
I handed her the items and left.

Why?
