My DD co parents with her narcissistic ex husband. It is very difficult and distressing as a grandparent to see how the children suffer. He seems unable to take on their needs as it is all about him. I worry constantly how these children will cope as they grow up. The 10 year old responded very well to counselling in school which he reluctantly agreed to and the counsellor also spoke to both parents at length about co parenting and listening to their children as their needs change. Sometimes a rigid Court Order needs to work for the children’s changing needs. My DD is threatened constantly if she steps out of line he will take her back to Court to take the children away from her. She is a good mum and I regularly reassure her no Court would do this but she is scared so he continues to manipulate and control making it very difficult for the children to have any contact with her when in his time. He has them 40% to her 60%. The little one aged 5 has become very clingy to mum and the 10 year old struggles with his behaviour towards her mum often saying why is daddy so awkward!
The ideal solution would be to return to Court with evidence of how the current situation is not working in the best interest of the children but my DD past Court contact was horrific as her ex is an accomplished liar and lied in Court and very convincing and employing the best solicitor and barrister his parents paid for and although she had good representation she seemed to be completely walked over and portrayed as an over anxious mother and my daughter found it all so distressing and cannot face ever returning to a Court.
Any communication with him is his way or no way. They tried mediation but he walked away from this as could not compromise in any way.
Whilst the children are in my daughter’s care we see them regularly and we support our daughter and their needs as best we can in dealing with this difficult situation. Whilst in his time we are allowed no contact and he will not communicate with us at all.
They both live within 10 minutes of our home. The only way they are connected now is co parenting. They have each bought a home of their own and are divorced and financially separate.
I find it all so heartbreaking to see my daughter bullied and manipulated and how this affects their children and will do more so as they grow up. The police have been involved in the past and he is on their file regarding his abusive behaviour but as it is all passive aggressive and not physical they say not enough evidence to do anything. TBH they didn’t want to know.
My one wish is he will meet someone else and lose interest in punishing my DD and will see the children's needs over his own.
Sorry for a long rambling message I just wondered if anyone else out there coping in a similar situation.
