Does any dislike this time of year.

My other half hates winter, as do many others, which is perfectly understandable, in fact he gets quite depressed which is why one of our daughters bought him a sun lamp thingummy. So, of course he loves summer.
But I am the polar opposite, I really dislike high summer, every year I dread it arriving, and am so relieved once in autumn. I really do get quite fed up with it. When we get good weather it is way too hot and humid and I get hot at the drop of a hat so it does make me feel dreadful, and heavy thundery weather triggers migraines. Also there are sweaty crowds everywhere, too many people on the roads and jostling each other on the streets.
Give me a crisp sunny November day and day, or a warm but not hot spring day anytime. I really don’t mind rain, cloud, or snow either.
Would think I was mad if it wasn’t for one of my daughters and friend feeling the exact same way.
Does anyone else feel an odd one out like this?

I am exacty like you ! When I was in my twenties i loved hot weather but now I can’t bare it and I too get more migraines caused by the heat and humidity .
It must be something about where our families stem from , my Mum was born and brought up in Kirkcudbright!!

Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons. Stretching out in the sun 🌞 on the beach is my idea oh hell 🥵😈! Not to mention a waste of my time. I have always felt this way but recognize how others love the sun. My lifelong friend loves nothing more than turning her chair to face the sun while I am under a shady tree! Each to their own, I really enjoyed Autumn sunshine and the autumnal colours.

It’s said that as we get older, our body’s temperature regulating mechanism doesn’t work as efficiently as it used to, so extremes of temperature affects us more.

That’s definitely true for me, especially as far as heat is concerned.
I used to love the summer, but now I feel completely listless when the temperature reaches the mid twenties, especially if it’s coupled with high humidity.

Of course when weather forecasters mention expected high temperatures, they are talking about temperatures in the shade., so if we are forced to be out in direct strong sunshine, it’s a different matter.

Look what happened to poor Michael Moseley, who, very unwisely, set off on an arduous walk during a Greek heatwave.

It was definitely fresher here today in the south east, and a bit cloudier than of late, but I still the air con on in the car when we went out.

I was going to post much the same.My Mum in her 80’s now really dislikes Summer and she used to love it years ago, and I’m getting the same way too.
I love the idea of Summer more than the real thing.
Spring is my best time of year followed by Autumn.

@JenniferEccles

I agree, since the menopause many moons ago now I can still get really hot and bothered, even in winter I only have a light duvet on my bed whereas my husband needs a winter duvet and blankets. For this reason we now sleep in different bedrooms because I just kick all the bedding off and he keeps putting it back on again.
So once the weather gets hot my body temp goes through the roof. In the past few days have been taking cool showers in the middle of the night as well as during the day, have tried fans but got a stiff neck/bad shoulder.
I think my body temp is wrecked.

Grandmafrench I'm sorry I missed your birthday yesterday. I hope you had a lovely day.
I like the changing seasons and every season has its merits and demerits. High summer in Scotland often can be very wet and dull with high humidity too. The sunniest months here are often May, June and September, alas not this year. My favourite season has always been autumn. Cool, crisp mornings, leaves turning colour to burnished gold, and sunshine. Since I retired, I am much more aware of grey skies than when I was working and find constant clouds depressing

GrannySomerset Sun 04-Aug-24 07:53:41

Agree with Grandmafrench that each season has its merits - and anyway we can’t do much about the bits we don’t like except be certain that nothing will last for long. And as elderly and retired I can do as much or as little as I choose on the days which are too hot/too sticky/too wet/too windy/too anything.

Happy birthday, Grandmafrench.

Sorry, meant to say we live in London.

I must be really weird. Lived in Trinidad aged 12 and mum and dad bought aircon for their bedroom and took my two year old baby sister in with them. Apparently they couldn’t afford aircon for me but they did buy me a fan. After that we moved to Kuwait in an air conditioned flat However the kitchen lacked aircon and poor mum insisted on a cook to help her out.
Years later I lived in Kuwait with my Arab husband. It was 50 centigrade and I turned off the freezing cold aircon to enjoy fresh breezes from the windows.
42 years later he is enjoying the fan all night and I will have to say night and get under the winter quilt a,s,a.p

Summer is ok if it's our typical English summer, - cloudy, raining, with the odd bright day now and then. But when a heatwave arrives I really hate it and feel quite ill. It completely wipes me
out.

The summer drains me, I just feel heavy and lifeless. I go out with my family who say isn't it lovely while I'm absolutely drenched in sweat

Tenko Sat 03-Aug-24 21:42:45

I love the summer months , apart from trying to sleep when it’s really hot .
I love the sunshine and blue skies. I don’t sunbathe like I used to do . I fake tan instead .

Tuaim Sat 03-Aug-24 21:26:18

When it is really hot, I love the early mornings and late evenings. I really don't like hot days and hot nights - no peaceful rest. The golden September and October days are my favourite when the sun casts long, low golden shadows and the beach is ours again till next year.

grandMattie Sat 03-Aug-24 21:23:52

Happy birthday grandmafrench

MissAdventure Sat 03-Aug-24 21:21:46

I don't enjoy the heat one bit.
Cooler, breezy days are more my thing.

Gingster Sat 03-Aug-24 21:16:04

I love the autumn, and am now looking forward to September and October. Love crisp, bright mornings, dew covered grass and spiders webs adorning bushes and hedgerows. The smell of wood burning and the air so sharp.

I also like cosy times in winter, wood burner alight, soups and stews simmering, walks in the forest and along the beach.
Fewer people around and energy and exhilaration. Listening to rain and wind while we’re warm and safe indoors

Springtime is lovely with nature awakening and the promise of the first flowers blooming, birds singing and warmer days outside.

Summer is my least favourite when it’s hot and humid.Too many people around , beaches and beautiful places, heaving with visitors. Travelling is tricky with busy roads, airports, ferries etc.
Sleep is impossible and energy is low.
I’m happy to be by the sea with fresher air and dips in the briny to cool down, but look forward to autumn.

I was born in high summer but I’m a winter babe at heart.

I love the summer, bright sunny warm days are my idea of heaven. Sunshine makes my day whatever season of the year it is. Dank and dreary is grim, dank, cold and dreary is grimmest.

Visgir1 Sat 03-Aug-24 20:53:25

Spring Summer for me please.
We don't really get colder crisp Autumn /Winter days as I remember them as a kid.
Let alone Snow, hardly seen where I live on the South Coast.
It just seems to rains, and rain!
Well it feels like it in last few years all the way until May.
I now think we have 5 seasons.. Spring /Summer /little Autumn /Rain /little bit of Winter with Rain.
I hate it especially this year, it was just such miserable weather.
I desperately needed the sun to shine and top up my Vitamin D.

Urmstongran Sat 03-Aug-24 20:06:55

*day obviously! Duh!

Urmstongran Sat 03-Aug-24 20:06:27

Many happy returns of the week to you GrandmaFrench. 😁
I love the temperate climate in the UK. Nothing too extreme usually. And no wonder we talk about it here so much - it can change so much in any given day!

RosiesMaw2 Sat 03-Aug-24 20:05:15

No. I am glad and grateful to be alive when so many dear to me are not.
If it’s hot, I can stay indoors with a fan on (and not necessarily much more blush. ), if it rains I know the garden needs it, the morning sun and (still) light evenings will soon enough be a thing of the past, so could we please stop moaning about the weather or the season?

I feel exactly the same.

Late afternoons in dappled sunlight, or balmy evenings which mean you can sit outside and watch the sun go down on the horizon and stay in the garden until it gets too chilly, are lovely - but the hot, still, humid day - where you look at the trees and nothing's moving because there's no breeze, and every move causes another outbreak of sweat and you have a million and one things to do. No - too awful.

nexus63 Sat 03-Aug-24 19:52:05

i hate the summer, i get hot and sweaty so quickly, some people have said i am odd but i just don't enjoy the heat, i love winter and even then i don't have the heating on.
