My other half hates winter, as do many others, which is perfectly understandable, in fact he gets quite depressed which is why one of our daughters bought him a sun lamp thingummy. So, of course he loves summer.
But I am the polar opposite, I really dislike high summer, every year I dread it arriving, and am so relieved once in autumn. I really do get quite fed up with it. When we get good weather it is way too hot and humid and I get hot at the drop of a hat so it does make me feel dreadful, and heavy thundery weather triggers migraines. Also there are sweaty crowds everywhere, too many people on the roads and jostling each other on the streets.
Give me a crisp sunny November day and day, or a warm but not hot spring day anytime. I really don’t mind rain, cloud, or snow either.
Would think I was mad if it wasn’t for one of my daughters and friend feeling the exact same way.
Does anyone else feel an odd one out like this?

I'm exactly the same as you.
When I was younger I could sunbathe for hours. Now I'm older I don't like the heat. About 22 degrees or lower suits me fine. Last week here has been awful with around 29 and so humid.
A nice breeze today.
I love the spring and autumn. smile

I love autumn. Sunny days are never stiflingly hot and humid. I don't mind winter. I find summer disappointing.

Cabbie21 Sat 03-Aug-24 15:34:14

I like the sunshine but not the heat and humidity. I have no energy on hot days. I stay indoors in the cooler side of the house.
I also do not like crowded places and sometimes don’t know where to go to avoid crowds yet not feel too isolated.
Although I am ready for the break, I look forward to activities starting up again in September. I know the organisers need a break, and maybe many are involved in looking after grandchildren, but August can be a lonely month.
A friend in another town runs a lot of special activities for older people in August, a bit like a holiday club only for older people!

Spring is my favourite season, Autumn is my DH favourite.

I just cannot, any longer, bear the heat and humidity.

Grandma70s Sat 03-Aug-24 15:42:06

I’m the same. There is something deadly dull about high summer, and heat is so uncomfortable. Also, now I am older I really dislike summer clothes. Only the young look good in clothes that leave much flesh uncovered.

I love autumn and winter. I like the cosy feel of short days and early dark. The clothes are much better, too, with interesting textures and much more variety,

I am too old to be wishing time away, but oh, I do wish it was October or November!

DH, two of our children and several DGC have really low blood pressure, a genetic feature of his family. The warm, humid weather make them very dizzy and tired at times. They have to drink lots and eat regularly to help control this. If DH gets up from sitting too quickly he gets very wobbly.
We don’t like the Summer months.

Siope Sat 03-Aug-24 15:50:26

Nope, love the summer, and really regret we get so little of it. I also love proper winters, with lots of snow, and again, regret we don’t have those. I need to emigrate again 😀

Esmay Sat 03-Aug-24 15:53:26

The sunshine is great if you have access to a pool or can dip in the sea .
I'm thinking of lobbying my Council for a new pool .
I can't even get them to put in more bus shelters !

Looking after grandchildren this season can be so exhausting, taking them to packed parks or beaches in hot weather, or just playing in the garden. Am taking a rest this weekend, no kids, just taking a break, tho am making my grandsons b/d cake in this heat 🥵

Janiepops Sat 03-Aug-24 16:05:36

I dislike hot days also. I have a little AC in my bedroom, it’s an absolute life saver. My bedroom is glacial! Love it 🥰
I love sitting in the car when it’s pelting down too, very relaxing.💧☔️
Also love watching snow, silently falling past the lamppost outside my window, as I am cosy inside ❄️❄️❄️
But, hot sweaty, energy draining weather just renders me a lethargic waste of space.
So yes, I love Autumn, Winter and spring too 🩵💙🩵💙🩶

Spring & Autumn for me

HelterSkelter1 Sat 03-Aug-24 16:19:38

I love getting up very early and sitting on the back step in the garden with a cup of coffee in the summer. While it is still cool and I can't do that in the winter. The high summer heat I cannot stand anymore and am the palest this year that I have ever been. But don't want to rush the year on so will enjoy my early mornings.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 03-Aug-24 16:19:59

I was born on a hot summers day, and hot summers days are my favourites.

Also if the sun is out I am happy, whatever season it is.

TerriBull Sat 03-Aug-24 16:35:21

I tend to look forward to the summer I regard it as the pinnacle of my year. Although lately I know I don't like intense heat, mid twenties is perfect. The other seasons, particularly Autumn can be lovely if the sun's out. I hate that all pervading grey gloom and the fact that it's dark in the middle of the afternoon that comes with the winter, it goes on too long.

Pittcity Sat 03-Aug-24 16:39:55

Give me a sunny but freezing winter's day anytime.

As for summer clothes I wear maxi dresses or cotton shirts with loose cotton trousers. I find covering up in loose clothing more comfortable than exposing flesh.

TwiceAsNice Sat 03-Aug-24 16:43:09

I hate winter , not that keen on autumn . Love spring and summer in the twenties. Agree when it hits the thirties it can be too hot. It was this temp on our holiday in Turkey a couple of weeks ago but fine with air con and a pool.

A big tower fan helps back home but generally I love summer and have felt very short changed this year. The only thing I like about winter is Christmas !

TwiceAsNice Sat 03-Aug-24 16:44:11

Love summer clothes too currently in linen shorts and a vest top

Babs03 Sat 03-Aug-24 16:45:45

I think part of it is that I am a milk bottle - as my old mum would say - and my family are mainly from Dumfriesshire, so I don’t think that I am suited to hot summers genetically 😜

BlueBelle Sat 03-Aug-24 16:49:06

I LOVE LOVE LOVE summer it can never be too bright, too sunny, too warm, too dry, I get quite down when we have day after day of dull, dreary, grey, cold, wet weather which seems to be 95% of the year here
I obviously wasn’t meant for this country and climate My mum and dad got that wrong
Love summer Hate winter
🌞 🥶

silverlining48 Sat 03-Aug-24 16:50:45

We have more than our fair share of wet windy grey cold and miserable days, throughout the entire year, so if it’s sunny even if only for a day or two it cheers most of us up.
If people don’t like it they can stay indoors with the curtains drawn, but one thing for sure, it rarely lasts 😎
We have booked a ridiculously expensive UK week by the sea next week and will probably be wandering around in the rain. Happy 😃days.

FlexibleFriend Sat 03-Aug-24 16:50:55

I don't hate any season, I just dress appropriately and now I'm disabled avoid going out in frosty and icy conditions. At home we have heating in the winter if we need it and in the summer air con is available at the flick of a switch.

grandMattie Sat 03-Aug-24 16:55:05

I was born and brought up in the tropics; I loathed the heat and humidity.
Here, I like all the seasons except the high temperatures we have had these last few days, especially the high night time ones. I do love the changes in the seasons, the different foods available, etc.

Farzanah Sat 03-Aug-24 17:02:23

I am glad we have changes of seasons in UK because I wouldn’t like to have the weather all year round.

I’m not a fan of summer weather, I don’t like stripping off, have pale freckly Celtic skin, plus a metabolism to match, so don’t cope well with heat and humidity. My clothing’s similar to Pittcity long and loose.

Holiday destinations are crowded and expensive. And I look forward to Autumn and walking through woods and countryside, when the light is not as harsh, and colours are changing, and lovely cosy evenings.

Can’t wait to get the woolly jumpers out 😀

Farzanah Sat 03-Aug-24 17:03:38

sorry “similar weather” We have to have weather!
