Enjoy a well deserved break brook.

Sunny here too today, windy enough to blow the creases out of most of the laundry, a good drying day.

We’ve begun to empty our bedroom. Started with the contents of the ottoman bed, filled a bin bag with the sort of stuff that had us muttering why did we keep that? Two charity shop bags too. Hospital for me in the morning then I’ll start painting the skirtings. Mr C struggles to get up when he’s down now so I’ve taken on low tasks. I’ll allow him to paint the door frame smile. We’ve a list of bits to do each day, far less tiring that way.

More worrying news about our friend, her daughter is at the end of her tether with what I call her resilience elastic stretched so tight it’s likely to ping at any moment. All I can do is listen and try to encourage her to care for herself

Goodness grandmab I’d call that a busy day rather than a quiet one. Sounds productive for sure.

Must get my real life kitchen head on now and prepare veg for our meal. Mr C enjoys a roast, chicken for us today.

Have a good evening everyone. Special thoughts to all with worries.

Afternoon kitcheners. Brook enjoy your holiday. I suspect you need it! Grannygravy veal schnitzel is one of my favourite meals. Can I join you?😂
I have labelled the raspberry jam pots, cleaned out and cleared out a kitchen cupboard and visited mum. I've filled up the screen wash in the car too and had a blether with a neighbour who I don't see very often. I'm making toad in the hole later with caramelised onion sauce. Today has been a quiet but happy day. I am content.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 18-Aug-24 15:24:47

Enjoy your holiday Brook2704 🛫

I am desperately trying to stay awake after a very late night at a dear friends 60th.

Need to prep dinner (veal schnitzel, sauté potatoes and veggies) we do not eat till 7.30ish but I like to try and be organised 🤣

brook2704 Sun 18-Aug-24 15:03:22

Good afternoon kitchen pals, oh my goodness Nannytopsy you were up late in the kitchen last night, I hope you got to sleep eventually
It’s dry and sunny here but the wind is cold, I’ve been pottering in the garden but needed my jumper, I’m doing our packing bit by bit, tomorrow we’re off on holiday. We’re staying overnight on Monday at Glasgow airport as we’ve an early flight to Menorca on Tuesday morning. We’re just going for a quiet weeks relaxation in the sun as it’s been very busy over the summer holidays and DH and I haven’t had much time together to enjoy each others company 😎😎
Hoping you enjoyed your quizzes last night grannmarie and your glass of Pinot Grigio
Sending much love to the Soops hoping all is ok

soop Sun 18-Aug-24 14:57:28

I feel so fortunate to have the support of you lovely lot. A mighty big thank you.

My thoughts are with all our Kitcheners who need extra special loving care. flowers

A quick stop in to hello. As so often, it’s the middle of the night! We are having such a good time here in France with DD SiL and the babies, but I shall be glad to get back to my bed and our comfy chairs!
*soop & Yiayia*I do hope you get answers and treatment very soon for your dear men.
NNGB to you all

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰 Dear Soop, you are so wise, long may you and MrSoop continue to enjoy your togetherness and count your blessings. Ad multos annos.

Thank you for all the kind comments about The Wee Boy's first day at school. He had a great day, when asked what he liked best he said " Everything! " So far so good!🤣🤞

Cornergran, thank you, and congratulations to your clever, hardworking DGD on her super results.
Glad to hear that you and your DH enjoyed your wee break, but so sorry to hear about your dear friend. Hoping and praying that a suitable place is found for her very soon.

Stunning picture, Ladyleftfieldlover, superb feminine power and energy, ideal with your colour scheme. You really have 'an eye'.

Jaxjacky, thank you, many congratulations to your son and his fiancée on their engagement, enjoy your night!

Grandmabatty, thank you, your raspberry jam smells delicious! Your DGS2 is a wee comic, bet he's enjoying having you to himself now his big brother is at school.

NannyG4, you made it through a very hard day, with your children and grandchildren beside you. There are wise words here from lovely ladies who understand your 'new normal'. One day at a time.
Thinking too of Doodle, GrannySomerset, Rosie'sMaw and all who live with such sad bereavement. 💐💐💐

DH and I are having a relaxing night on the sofa, watching Saturday evening quizzes. 📺 Pasta bolognese and garlic bread for dinner, wee glass of Pinot Grigio now.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Saturday evening and a good night's sleep.
TOYA, NNGB.

NannyG4 just one day at a time, take care, we’re here for you when needed ❤️

*Mr Soop* saw the GP yesterday afternoon, who redressed his scalp. Although the multi-disciplinary team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary meet on Tuesday to discuss the best way forward to treat his cancer, it will be some time thereafter that we learn the decision.
In the meantime, we continue to enjoy our togetherness and count our blessings.

I did pedal the bike to no place after visiting our kitchen yesterday. I shall now mount the apparatus and perform the usual thirty minute cycle and wish you all a pleasant Saturday..

Hope you get some positive news about your DH. Hope he is bearing up well.
🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 17-Aug-24 16:41:14

My favourite jam!

Grandmabatty Sat 17-Aug-24 16:25:34

I've just made raspberry jam. I'll leave a few pots. The kitchen smells wonderful

Jaxjacky Sat 17-Aug-24 15:31:21

Yes NannyG4 you did it and you will do it in the days and weeks ahead with their ups and downs, be very gentle on yourself and go with your flow.
Good to hear about your granddaughter corner not so good about your friend, life certainly kicks us sometimes, good luck with your room.
Another lovely day here and again I have grubby fingers from oiking weeds out, I must scrub them, it’s the engagement party tonight. Nothing formal, just a pub get together, it’ll be good to see some of my sons friends and there will be a DJ - we won’t be late home 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your day all.

Charleygirl5 Sat 17-Aug-24 15:11:23

NannyG4 that was a difficult day to get through with the help of your AC and grandchildren.

corner I am sorry to hear your friend has been moved out of that home and her daughter is frantically trying to find another. That was good news your GD received the results she wanted so she can work now until she can go to Australia to work.

Just think you will have a clean, smart bedroom for winter, I have been getting outdoor jobs done before winter, fence painting and new drain parts fitted so a gentle breeze with leave everything in situ.

Being partially sighted has its advantages- I rarely notice when a room needs painting.

Look after yourselves and enjoy the warm weather as I doubt if it will be here for much longer.

Ali23 Sat 17-Aug-24 14:55:36

So glad you got through it with the family’s love, NannyG4. One day at a time now. Take care.

Enjoy the scenery Soop 😉 . Make sure you finish off with a little treat !

corner Hearty congratulations to your granddaughter's success. I fully understand how you feel about not being able to cope (as you once did) with assisting your poorly friend's needs. I feel frustrated with my own "shortcomings". However, it is what it is. We must soldier on and do our best. Hugs for you.

NannyG4 You are an amazing lady. I admire your fortitude. flowers

soop Sat 17-Aug-24 14:12:52

Llfl Perfect! I love the way that wallpaper echoes colours in the picture together with the frame.

GrannySomerset Sat 17-Aug-24 08:24:03

Glad yesterday went to plan, NannyG4 and my thoughts are with you as you navigate this new life that you didn’t ask for or want. Good days and bad lie ahead and you need to be kind to yourself. Over two years on I am still ambushed by sorrow even though I have settled in to this strange single life, but I am more than grateful for kind children and friends. One day at a time.

Babs03 Sat 17-Aug-24 08:20:48

Take it a day at a time NannyG4.
And a big ‘well done’ to you and the family for getting through yesterday.
🙏🏾

Grandmabatty Sat 17-Aug-24 07:58:45

A lovely post NannyG4. I'm glad your family helped you through the difficult day. I agree with RosiesMaw. Be kind to yourself and take it easy.

RosiesMaw2 Sat 17-Aug-24 00:05:12

Well done NannyG4 I am glad your family buoyed you up and helped see you through that hard day.
Be kind to yourself, there may well be delayed effects from the strains and tensions of the last few weeks. Take things gently 🌺

NannyG4 Fri 16-Aug-24 23:10:43

A late Good Evening and what can I say.. An enormous thankyou to you ALL who were thinking of me yesterday. I'm absolutely blown away by all your kind thoughts and messages. Yesterday was tough and very very emotional but I did it, with the help and love of my AC and beautiful grandchildren we got there. It was wonderful. But I felt very strange today, my new normal .....
I hope you are all managing life with all its highs and lows and wish each and everyone of you peace and contentment. Smell those roses.

Love to you all, again thankyou for your kind thoughts, they're priceless.

Love always.

brook2704 Fri 16-Aug-24 22:42:42

Lovely to hear from you corner and catch up on your news - well done to your DGD on her results, but sorry to hear about your poorly friends
Lovely picture llfl thanks for sharing
Sending hugs to all in need ❤️

cornergran Fri 16-Aug-24 22:01:09

Just trying to catch up. Failed miserably.

That’s a wonderful image granmarie. A really positive start to your grandsons school life.

nannyg4 has been in my thoughts. Worrying times for you soop and yiayia. My love to you and all facing challenges.

We seem to be in the midst of an emotional roller coaster here. Big smiles yesterday on learning our granddaughter has secured her first choice university place, deferred for a year she is working to save for a trip to Australia early next year. She has worked and is working incredibly hard. We are of course more than proud of her.

Not so happy news about my dear friend, as her Home can no linger cope with her needs she is stuck in hospital while her daughter frantically searches for a better and safer match. The phone has been red hot. Our friend across the water is also unwell, she’s very weak. I’m sad we can’t flit back and forth as we did when she fell down her stairs 9: years ago, we went twice a week if she needed us as she did most weeks. I’m annoyed with myself for not being able to cope physically now.

We had a very pleasant three days away at the beginning of the week. Well looked after it was a real treat and was good for us both.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to have kind weather to tame the forsythia that thinks it’s a bean stalk. It’s huge. Sunday I’m beginning to empty our bedroom and painting skirting boards in advance of carpet fitting next Thursday. Sunday is the only free day before carpet fitting. Yikes! Please remind me this was my idea, how could I have thought it would be simple???? I’d far rather be in the garden massacring plants grin.

Sleep well everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover

I love this picture. I first spotted it at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2021 but didn’t buy it. It is now far too expensive so I bought a greetings card version and here it is. Four feminists in a canoe with their cat.

Really nice.
I bought a similar card with a lovely picture on the front with the title 'women fly when men aren't looking'.
