Many ( belated) happy returns on your 70th birthday, SueD, thinking of you and your DH. 💐

Grannmarie Mon 30-Sept-24 11:26:38

Good morning, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

I've lots of catching up to do on Kitchen news after a few busy days. We had a big day out on Saturday, met up with the Wee Boy, his Mummy and Daddy and lovely other Granny in Dunbar, they were staying nearby for the holiday weekend. We spent the day at a huge Farm Park , the Wee Boy had a great time. We all had dinner together at a Brewer's Fayre type restaurant where strangely the staff were wearing Santa hats, and C*******s tunes were playing...it's September Weekend!🤣

DS3 and lovely girlfriend came for dinner yesterday, chicken curry, a family favourite. It was good to see them. We watched a recording of The Hit List after dinner, we can usually attempt most of the answers, DH and I remember the 70s songs, DS3 and lovely girlfriend get the more recent ones.
We'll see DS1 and family next weekend.

Thinking of MrSoop, MrYiaYia, and all with health worries. Hoping and praying for speedy, successful procedure/surgery.🙏
I hope Ann had a peaceful night after her stressful weekend.
I don't know Went the day well, Grandmabatty, but I'll look out for it on YouTube, I trust your recommendation!👍
Hope your DD's house sale goes ahead soon, brook. 🤞
Lovely produce, Jaxjacky. Good luck for your last quiz, hope it can be reinstated in the future.
Enjoy your holiday in your special place, FGT, best wishes to you and Himself.

I'm sitting on my sister's sofa with her large cat on my lap,🐈‍⬛, very comforting and therapeutic! She's away just now so I'm feeding/ visiting him, he loves company.

TOYA, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow.

Well done utbb* for saying no, we need choices in our lives.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 29-Sept-24 20:43:54

My weekend is fortunately over.
The boys went about half an hour ago and my GD took the baby home at 5.
It has been full on and I have not enjoyed it, it was all too much.
I like to think I cope better than I actually do.
I have said never both at the same time again.
Now getting into bed.
A good night to all.

brook2704 Sun 29-Sept-24 20:36:41

GG13 I’d be quite impressed on the inside but quite stern on the outside! 🤣

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 29-Sept-24 20:17:18

‘Evening All’.

We’ve enjoyed today meeting neighbours (now friends) for lunch. Then at 5pm we made the most of a beautiful sunny and warm evening and went for a long walk. Up to Arroyo where I had (another) glass of vino tinto sat outside La Canasta (chain) while Himself had a coffee and a huge slice of carrot cake.

Bedtime soon. We are an hour ahead. No duvets on the beds yet but last night was the first night since arriving where we didn’t need the overhead ceiling fan gently whirring away. Autumn must be on its way.

Jaxjacky Sun 29-Sept-24 19:51:21

No GG13 I’m not that diligent I’m afraid, the jars are sterilised though! It’s a means to an end as I use it in my Christmas stuffing, which via my daughter is now very (too🙂) popular with all her friends.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 29-Sept-24 19:45:07

Hi folks, I am collapsed on the sofa, chutney is in jars, dishwasher is on, I am exhausted.

Jaxjacky do you put your chutney in hot jars whilst it’s still hot? I do and I can hear the occasional pop as the lids seal.

DD and her boys have just gone home, I think I will have an early night with my kindle for company, DH will probably watch TV.

The Imp (4) cannot understand why the police didn’t come and arrest his brother this morning, despite calling them five times because he was annoying he has had a firm talk from DD and us, along with a police officer over the phone.

Not sure whether to laugh or be impressed at his attempt…

brook2704 Sun 29-Sept-24 19:38:18

Shame there wasn’t a win in the last meat draw Jax wonder if the new owners will carry it on ?
It’s been quite a nice day here, a bit of sunshine, dry and not too cold. I’ve been out in the garden most of the afternoon then had a FaceTime call with DS in Switzerland. It’s the start of 2 weeks school holidays there so they’re off on their travels next week.
If you’ve any other slow cooker soup recipes grandmabatty please pass them on 😀
Hope everyone is doing ok, sending ❤️ to all x

Jaxjacky Sun 29-Sept-24 19:15:36

Hi all, well I have stoked up the kitchen fire, windy and raining, miserable.
MrJ came back from watching football with them too, a loft expedition ensues, I didn’t think there was much up there, but my daughter will car boot what there is at some point, she left with the game Scattergories, a gift pack of miniature brandy and a random DVD, we don’t know what’s on it, some history of MrJ’s family.
Last meat draw under the current ownership of our local and no luck!
I hope you’ve had a gentle day utbb and haven’t had to cater for the masses.
Chutney bubbling away, curry for dinner, hunkering down.

Grandmabatty Sun 29-Sept-24 09:17:53

UTBB what a houseful! I quite agree, take yourself off and let your dgd deal with the baby. It's kind of you and her to help out her friend.
Soup is being prepped, Brook.

brook2704 Sat 28-Sept-24 22:42:55

Goodness uttb you’ve definitely got a house full there , I hope they’re all helping you out a bit. Also hoping the baby’s mum is feeling much better soon
Grandmabatty, good that your DGS enjoys the soup, so filling and healthy. DGD had some earlier this week and declared it amazing! 🤣

Usedtobeblonde Sat 28-Sept-24 22:26:33

Oh yes, I wouldn’t be having her if she wasn’t.
My GS’s are no trouble, they are 15 and 13, the 15 year old is very autistic but absolutely lovely, very bright but an absolutely one track mind.
When he latches onto a subject he can bore for hours, will never be totally independent but polite to a fault and very affectionate.
Baby is asleep now but up to now hasn’t slept through the night.
I am blocking my ears, not my problem.

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Sept-24 22:10:09

Is your granddaughter there utbb?

Usedtobeblonde Sat 28-Sept-24 22:04:07

Grandmabatty
I second your choice as one of the best films ever.
Went the day well, has been a favourite of mine for many a year.
I have a full house this weekend, both GS’s are here overnight plus my GD’s friend’s 5 month old baby as mum is really unwell, baby is very crabby and very unsettled, I have stayed out of the way, I can’t cope anymore.
Kindest thoughts to the Soops , Yia and SueD for their worries.
And of course to you all.

Grandmabatty Sat 28-Sept-24 21:17:18

Brook I'm making a pot tomorrow. Dgs2 has a big bowlful three times a week! It really is tasty and so easy

Redcar Sat 28-Sept-24 21:01:18

fgt enjoy every minute in your happy place. How lovely to know that your neighbours care for you.
soop & mr soop not good news about mr soop’s poor head, it must be so painful.
I’ve been clearing some more rubbish from the garage today, I took the decision to throw away a bottle of TCP, which expired in 1996, and a tin of polish, price 3/6d, obviously more than 53 years old! I hadn’t realised my late DH was so reluctant to throw anything away! A visit to the local tip will be called for soon. The new bright lights are showing up a fine display of cobwebs, so far no spiders but they’re probably hiding somewhere ready to jump out at me!
Have a peaceful evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Sept-24 19:49:27

Oh GG13 you beat me 🙂 I’ve got to get some more vinegar and mustard seeds, probably onions too, before I start.
FGT you’re grabbing every minute and loving both your man and the opportunity, long may it last 🥰

Doodle Sat 28-Sept-24 19:16:13

FGT enjoy and savour every second and please take photos and videos of your DH and him speaking to you. I can’t tell you how much the videos of my DH mean to me.
Have a lovely time

brook2704 Sat 28-Sept-24 19:12:05

Just about to watch Strictly too GG13, that’s Saturday nights viewing sorted
Well done to Imogen Jax for being so organised early for Christmas, it comes so quickly 🧑‍🎄
Enjoy every minute together in your happy place Fgt doing whatever you feel like doing
Another slow cooking pot full of grandmabattys delicious lentil soup was made earlier - it’s ready for our lunches in the week 👍

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-Sept-24 18:53:35

Oh dear soop sending you both (((hugs)))

Jaxjacky I have prepared my tomatoes and onions today ready to be transformed into Chutney tomorrow.

FGT2 enjoy your happy place your way 😘

I am in the sofa watching strictly with a glass of vino blanco, DH is cooking (Duck breasts)

Enjoy your evening whatever you are doing, sending kind thoughts and wishes to poorly and stressed kitchen friends.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 28-Sept-24 18:38:39

‘Evening All’.

We’ve had another good day in the gardens. It seems the less we do the less we feel like doing. We are eating in again. I’ve just had a shower and Himself is having his now. I just need to open the cupboards and put a meal together. It won’t be gourmet but we’re easily pleased. It’s just good to be here quite honestly. Every now and again I get a flicker of anxiety and find myself sad about our situation. This will never go away so I have learned to manage my feelings as best I can.

Grandmabatty Sat 28-Sept-24 18:36:10

Oh dear Soop and MrSoop. I hope things go well. It sounds really painful for poor Mr Soop.
I have done all the housework, made a slow cooker pot of mince and had some with mash. The rest I'll make into cottage pie tomorrow. I've changed the bedding and visited dd and the boys for a piece of chocolate brownie. Food shop was done this morning. So everything is done for today and I'm watching 'Went the day well,' one of the best war films ever made starring a young Thora Hird.

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Sept-24 18:35:20

Not the news you wanted soop, you are in the best hands x
A chilly day with some sun, the last tomato’s picked, they will become chutney.
We have a road closure in the village, gas, causing chaos, but no one working on it 🙄
Last night two men working outside at at 9 by torchlight, laying fibre, it’s all go.
Imogen has sent me her Christmas wish list, all links, I’ve screen shot the products in case I delete the txt.
I hope those in the quiet corner have had a decent day ❤️

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 28-Sept-24 15:34:47

I’m thinking of both Soops and praying that all will be well.🌹🙏
