Have you got a personalised number plate and do you wish you hadn’t?

Mine was a gift for my 50th birthday from the family, a surprise but very welcome. DGD will inherit it one day, we share the same initials. DS1 will fall heir to DH'S, they share the same first name.

Yes we each have a private plate, it’s so easy when using car park machines, booking into hotels etc, I could never remember my number plates.

As regards being spotted out and about,as I have nothing to hide it’s not a problem!

I have one and had a different one in the past. I ditched the original one when i changed name. The current one is my old dogs name. Neither were especially expensive and I have no regrets about them.

Pointless expenditure. I would rather donate the money to a worthwhile charity. More money than sense as my dad used to say.

Never seen the point of them and would certainly never pay to have one.
But then I probably spend money on some things that others would deem pointless.

I have had mine over twenty years it’s my initials from my DH it’s a bit different from other plates being personalised. I don’t see a problem with it really it was a nice gesture my DH also has his private plate.

I’m laughing at these remarks. I do have one with my name on it I inherited it from my husband who had it on his car! It doesn’t bother me but I laughed at marthjolly1im a nursery teacher and on a Monday I get ooh you were at aldi on Saturday and M&S spending your money! Hilarious goid job I wasn’t up to no good!😂😂

I have had one for about 20 years, so does DH he's had his about 30 years we also bought one for DD 21st birthday.
We don't find it difficult adding to new cars. All you need to do is keep the original plates that the car was issued with when you sell it, as thats what will be what DVLA will re issued. You keep your plates on a retainer.
Ours are very personal to us, we only did this for DH new car last month.

My friend had one which she inherited from her father in law. He bought it and the mini attached to it for £450. She was offered £50,000 for it a few years ago. I'd have sold it!

I bought mine 15 years ago but only put it on a new car 10 years ago. It’s my maiden surname and every time my Dad sees it, he smiles…🤗. And my brothers never spotted it coming up either, which puts a smile on my face 😇

I’ve worked out that my current surname will come up in 9 years time and will buy a new car then to put it on, possibly selling the current plate, unless Dad sees his telegram from the King!

My sister has one and she loves it. I have other things to do with my money.
The nearest we’ve ever come to having one was when on the car we were buying, the last 3 letters were the initials of DH’s first name, my first name and our surname.
I was quite sad to lose it, when we replaced the car years later.

DH has one by accident on his car. It’s not his personal info, but one of our DCs. When we change the car we might pass the reg on.

No, I wouldn't. I used to have a very distinctive vehicle and got fed up with people saying 'oh, I saw you were at the Retail park yesterday, or at the doctors this morning, or the swimming baths' etc. No harm meant, I know, but I found it very irritating.

I inherited mine from DH and keep it in memory of him. It’s been transferred to my current car. If I give up driving, I shall sell it to a number plate dealer before the car is sold. It’s now worth more than DH paid for it according to the quotes I’ve had.

I've got one which I bought myself about 25 years ago. No I don't wish I didn't have it. It's personal to me and it makes me smile and it's easy to remember. If I didn't like it I'd remove it from the car or sell it along with the car.
