Breakfasts in hotels

With tourists who steal from the dining room it's not surprising that hotel keepers have become soulless money earners. I would not enjoy a holiday in someone else's pretty little town unless I respected the local people.

What a contrived argument.
The implication that anyone (including those who were allowed to take a couple of things for later, or people who have doggy bags for food they cannot finish) is a thief and does not respect the local people is a bit OTT, unkind and IMO nasty and uncalled for.

Hotel chains I have stayed give various different options , some are table service others self service , which Warners offer .
One thing I like but seldom see on breakfast menus is fried bread , covered with tomato's or baked beans.

One of the meanest people I have ever known would always ask for a doggy bag to take home any food left on her plate when going out for a meal. It made me cringe. She was not remotely hard up.
I would not ever consider taking extra food for later. it is demeaning and would spoil the whole experience of having a meal out if I was with anyone who thought it was o.k. to be skulking around with bags of left over food.

Most good hotels will give you a free picnic lunch if you are going out for the day. There is no need to pinch stuff and, as kwest says “skulk around”.

Please put this thread behind you JaneJudge. I said ages ago that many people were being unnecessarily unpleasant. You have been called some very upsetting names. I for one, shall not be thinking anything of the sort when I see your name on GN. Have a lovely holiday and hide this thread. That way you won't be reminded.

Indeed - we were at a lovely Turkish restaurant in Edinburgh last week and we couldn't manage the whole meal, so the waitress asked if we would like it to take away.

That’s quite different to eating in hotels where many of them do buffet style food and people pinch pieces of fruit, cakes, croissants,bread rolls etc.

You best not come out for tea with me then🤣.....I don't feel in the least demeaned when I ask to take a half eaten pizza home in a box .....I've paid for it .....who cares if its thrown out or taken home ....no one I know .

You wouldn’t for example pinch condiments, bread, chutneys from a restaurant would you?

Buffet style meals are more subject to people overloading their plates and leaving their food than they are to people taking extra for later.

You are correct that some people overload at buffet style meals but that is not what Jane is asking about. She is asking whether it is right or wrong to take fruit, cheese, pasties or bread out of the dining room of a hotel in zip lock bag. 🙂

I took surplus pizza pieces back to our apartment from the resort restaurant a couple of times on holiday recently. The waiter asked me if I wanted a box for them!
They made a nice cold lunch on the terrace the next day.

Better than stuffing my face with more food than I needed the evening before, in my opinion 😳
