I’m on the side of the naysayers really, and I’ve never taken any of the breakfast buffet away with me. But I can’t judge. On a girls’ trip to Vegas we found it was perfectly acceptable to segue seamlessly from a Bellagio buffet brunch into a bottomless buffet lunch which culminated in our waitress handing us an extra bottle of champagne as we left, to enjoy in the afternoon. I’m pretty sure the idea was that we’d then fritter away all our spending money in the casino (it didn’t work ).

No dressing gown?

And no-one will ever wear those slippers once they've been on someone's feet.

The good news is that so many GNs disapprove of doing that, that there’ll be plenty left for those who do.

I might even be one of them since I happily accept a doggy bag at restaurants.

The only time I ever did it was in a hotel in Amsterdam. I took a pack of 2 slices of roggebrood to help me look for it back in the UK.
My punishment? By the time we got home it was past its best before date.

Yes, one in each pocket. If you want to secrete them, wear the robe inside out, or carry a towel over each arm!

I never thought of that!

You could look an odd shape as you shuffle out in your hotel towelling slippers, dressing gown pockets stuffed with toilet rolls and croissants.

I'm an odd shape anyway, lol!

Taking away food from the buffet is what tupperware was made for!

I asked a couple of younger friends today and they laughed and said they wouldnt think twice about taking food from a buffet because it would otherwise go to waste.

Last time I went to Venice I never bought lunch. I always snacked on fruit and cheese I had got from the breakfast buffet. Venice is a very expensive city and it saved me the price of a meal. I never travel without the wherewithal to make myself tea and coffee.

I usually take a pastry for later on. Hubby laughs at me. In a hotel abroad we watched a woman make heaps of sandwiches for her large brood. The waiter told her off. She was taking the p***.

At an all inclusive hotel in Jamaica I was horrified by the amount of food taken at buffets: breakfast, lunch & dinner and then wasted. If we were going out for the day we did take enough for a light lunch from the breakfast buffet but normally when our booking is just B & B I take a banana or apple, quite openly and nobody has ever stopped me.

I wouldn’t do it. When I was poorly on holiday last year my husband asked if he could take a couple of things up to the room for me - and the answer, of course, was yes. Maybe hotels will have to put up their prices again if we all start taking breakfast items to eat later.

Don't usually eat lunch but on holiday I have sometimes taken a hard boiled egg from the buffet in case I'm peckish later. I have always taken this quite openly and am not in the least embarrassed by doing so. When I see the copious amounts consumed by others and the mountains of wasted food left on plates i feel quite justified after my very light breakfast.

I personally wouldn’t do it as I think it looks a bit desperate but I wouldn’t judge anyone else for doing it

A banana yes…….anything else no……even if you do have the mindset that you’ve paid for it anyway!

Nah, it’s always looked a bit poor to me when I’ve witnessed it.
Breakfast is what I pay for so I sit and eat it. Not paying for a takeaway am I?

I don't think it is right but that's just my opinion. I once saw someone in a well known hotel chain get pulled up by a member of staff who spotted them doing that very thing. Never seen someone go at that red before. I'd have been mortified.

Trust me that has been accounted for in the price. Majority of people will take a piece of fruit pastry or both. Don’t it for years. What’s the difference what time you eat it.

So, just a banana is ok, it seems.
How about two plums for those who don't like bananas?

I have the continental breakfast offered at a hotel and then take a tray with a few items up to my room..... no problem. I can eat them later in my room as lunch or take it with me when I check out.

I wouldn’t do it. If everyone took their lunch as well as what they want for breakfast the hotel would spend a lot more.

The food on offer is to provide what all the guests want for breakfast, not what they want for two meals. So I don’t think it’s fair.
