Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Another warm sunny morning with a hot day forecast. Washing machine on & no doubt washing will dry quickly in the sun.
I’ll have a walk after breakfast and then do very little for the rest of the day, I may try to do some more weeding in the garden, depending on how my back feels. I did cut back a few shrubs yesterday and took some dead branches off a very old rose bush.
Will pick a few more ripe tomatoes today and check for dwarf French beans in the trough.
I hope your finger isn’t too sore grandm and that you manage to keep it dry in the shower!
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. We’re just at the tail end of the most magnificent thunderstorm and the rain is now bucketing down. My poor garden is taking another battering.

Yesterday DD took us to Edinburgh as DGD and her friend were going to attend a netball training session. We were able to drop them off then go to visit DS.

I won’t be doing much today if this weather doesn’t improve. Sainsbury’s will bring my shopping this afternoon.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Aug-24 07:18:17

Morning all it’s already 20° here and according to the weather app it’s going to reach 32° and sunny.

I am off to the gym first thing, then I might make a quiche for dinner (new potatoes and salad to accompany it)

Wishing you all a good day 🙋‍♀️

HelterSkelter1 Mon 12-Aug-24 07:16:59

Sorry a lot of cools in my post. But today it is a lovely word

HelterSkelter1 Mon 12-Aug-24 07:16:04

Good morning from N Surrey. All doors and windows open to let the cool air in as it cooler than indoors for the next half hour. Then everything will be shut for the day. Forecast 33 deg. Thank heavens tomorrow will be cooler and the rest of the week back to normal. So today will be spent very gently. I am re reading a book called Lighthouse and all the talk of rough seas and spray will cool me down ..... I hope.

Gingster Mon 12-Aug-24 07:14:45

Good morning all and I was up early as it was too warm to stay in bed. I let little pooch out and sat in the delicious coolness of the garden. It won’t be like that for long. 🥵.

I have Chimes this morning where we’ll sit in our leaders garden under the trees. Coffee/cold drinks and cake to follow.

I have a parcel to pick up from M and S and a few bits of shopping while I’m there and then back home to sit in front of the fan.

I watched the Closing ceremony whilst I Crochetted but it was just as bad as the Opening. 😠.

Hope your finger heals quickly GM

Take care in the heat, those who have it 🌸

karmalady Mon 12-Aug-24 07:07:15

Good morning from hot sunny s somerset, it is already 22 degrees

Today will be just about identical to yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed my quiet calm space while being slowly productive. I anticipated the sun and closed my shutters early enough and kept the house 3 degrees cooler than outside

No cleaning apart from the usual kitchen and en suite, I will leave major stuff for cooler weather later this week.

I did un-earth a quilted garment that I cut out 2 years ago, I kept putting it off as there is a considerable amount of hand sewing to bind the edges and seams. Surprise to me but it is looking lovely and will be very practical. I will finish that today, same slow speed

The sun has just become intense, today will be a challenge wrt temperature

Have a good day

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cloudy and rain due later
How lovely to get an invite from your DGD gMattie enjoy your time together
We had a really enjoyable day yesterday with DD2 and the DGC, today it’s much quieter with just a few jobs to do. Ive an order to collect from M&S so I might go into town later if the forecast rain is heavy
Sorry to hear you’re struggling with hay fever Blue Sapphire, I know how difficult it is. Strangely enough mines not been anywhere near as bad this year, I’ve no idea why but I’m hoping it doesn’t return.. I’ve found the prescription eye drops Olopatadine really help with stingy eyes, if you’ve not tried them yet
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all. It will be hot. I’ve had a dreadful night, waking up at 2:45am so will feel tired all day. I got up to look at the Perseid meteor shower but didn’t seem any but the stars were very bright.

The Country & Game show we went to was a bit disappointing. We saw a jousting show in the big arena which was accompanied by relentless very loud rock music which killed the atmosphere entirely. Why not medieval music? We couldn’t pay for Tandoori wraps as the machine wouldn’t accept card payments and we had no cash. Luckily it worked at
another outlet.

Will pick up GD from a 3 day gymnastics group and bring her home for dinner. She did it last year aged 4 and loved it. She has been watching the Olympics for this.

Have a comfortable day in the heat.

Mizuna Mon 12-Aug-24 06:46:08

Good morning from a mild, cool Cornwall, no very hot weather coming this way, phew. Watched the Olympics closing ceremony with great amusement. I love that it's so bonkers and unfamiliar to us. Vive la différence.

Today I have sewing to do. Have unpicked three elasticated sheets because they creep off the beds and am adding extra fabric to the corners. Turned into a labour of love but worth it once its done.

My White Mint plants with their blue flowers 🤔 😆 are drawing in the bees of all kinds. Its heady scent makes them frantic. Bus strike today so my heels are clipped, although I can still get to the beaches with the smaller local bus company, whose owner doesn't believe in strikes, and anyway pays his staff very fairly.

Grandmabatty Mon 12-Aug-24 06:38:26

That sounds painful GrandMattie.

grandMattie Mon 12-Aug-24 06:32:02

Thanks, Bellas, my finger is just uncomfortable now. Showering in a minute, without getting it wet, will be interesting.
I hope the littlies enjoy their day with you - sure after only a few days at nursery won’t have spoiled them for playing with you. 🫂

Bellasnana Mon 12-Aug-24 06:25:41

Good morning from a very hot Malta.

Ouch! Your poor finger grandMattie. I hope it’s feeling less painful as the day goes on. 💐

I’m about to get up as I am looking after the boys today whilst their mum has a spa day with another mummy. The boys’ nursery is closed this week. I hope they won’t find Nana boring after all the activities they have been getting used to!

Thinking of Ash and all for whom life is a struggle at the moment, and wishing you all a good day.☀️

BlueSapphire Mon 12-Aug-24 06:22:38

Good morning everyone from a very bright and sunny 🌞Northampton, a very hot day forecast. Up early as I have a dentist appointment this morning, so no yoga today. Once home from that, I will stay indoors as the pollen forecast is high, and I really suffered yesterday with sore eyes after sitting in.the garden for a while. Have tried all sorts of allergy tablets, but nothing seems to work.

Some washing to hang out before I go to the dentist, then will spend the rest of day reading.

Take it easy today, not a day for rushing around!

grandMattie Mon 12-Aug-24 06:18:52

Good morning from a clear, hot Bristol.
Yesterday turned out to be more animated than I expected. My neighbour called in for a cuppa, then invited me to go to the Downs, a large park area overlooking the Avon gorge, to see the balloons coming from the other side. As it is a lovely place, I accepted. Off we went, only to find out when we got there that the wind was too strong, and westerly, so they wouldn’t fly. Westerly winds take them across the Bristol Channel and can be pretty dangerous. We still had a lovely walk, in the cool breeze.
During the evening, I received a text from DGD saying “she had no commitments on Tuesday”, would I like to go with her to Bath for lunch? My first invitation from a grandchild!
Going to bed,I was closing a windows, caught my finger in the catch, removed a great chunk of skin off my index finger and bled like the proverbial stuck pig. It really hurt/throbbed, made a mess and shook me. Putting it on my frozen “hot” water bottle helped.
Today? Tesco a.m., OAP film p.m.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Aug-24 06:16:52

Good morning from the South Downs. I am just about to go into the garden in my PJs and enjoy the glorious coolness with a cup of tea. Not a breath of wind. Not a single flower moves except where it is being visited by a bee.

All gardens need shade and the best is without any doubt the shade that you get from trees. But these days will soon disappear as autumn edges ever closer.

Harvest time, with the farmers working night and day. Years ago as a child the stooks stood for days in the fields before being collected and made into ricks. Now, the hay is cut, chopped, bundled and wrapped in black plastic all in a day.

Sun rise! A hot day forecast

Enjoy you day all

Peace and harmony

RosesandLilac Mon 12-Aug-24 06:13:30

Good morning Mick and following friends, it was drizzling earlier but clearing up now here in south Glos.
I’ve been awake for several hours 🙄
I enjoyed myself yesterday doing some needlework, slowly making progress on a felt heart kit. I have at least another dozen kits I’ve been given or bought so plenty to keep me occupied. I also did a few more rows of my crochet blanket.
It’s going to be another hot day here, I will take the dog out shortly then housework before it gets too warm.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Greyduster Mon 12-Aug-24 06:10:16

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. When I got up an hour ago the sky was overcast with a yellow tinge to the light. Now it appears to be brightening up. There was a baby robin on my lawn, not fully fledged. He sat looking rather lost. I hope he finds his way into the hedge or I shall worry about him all day. Yesterday was so hot I didn’t venture out until late afternoon when I did some work on my front rockery. No idea what is on the cards today. I shall let it roll out and see where it takes me.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Grandmabatty Mon 12-Aug-24 06:09:32

Good morning Mick and all from Polmont where it's currently 15° and grey with heavy clouds. Thunder isn't here yet, but is forecast soon. I think those in the West will hear it before me.
Yesterday was fairly busy. I began to seriously get rid of weeds/moss in my driveway but only did a fraction of it. It was just too hot. I cleaned the birdbath again and my solar fountain is back working. It had got sludged up. I visited mum in the afternoon and she was ok. She remembered that she would be 90, just not sure of the day. I watched some of the closing ceremony of the Olympics but couldn't be bothered and went to bed.
Today is early childcare day and I'm exhausted already. I was up five or six times in the night, so half shut knife is a good way to describe me. I'll get the boys out, if I can after the forecasted thunderstorm. Have a good day all.

Michael12 Mon 12-Aug-24 06:01:10
