In the papers and online there is the headline that the great young tennis player Jannick Sinner has twice had drugs in his system. It turns out he had a cut on his hand and his trainer put a spray on it without realising it contained a banned substance. Panic over.

I’ve just been reading about this too. It wasn’t Jannik who had the cut, it was his physiotherapist who had cut his own finger and used the spray on it. This was then transferred to Jannik when he massaged him.

The quantity in the sample was less than a billionth of a gram and not enough to be performance enhancing. However, he was still fined £250,000 and lost his ranking points from Indian Wells.

Unfortunately, the haters are out to get him saying he ought to have been banned and that he is a cheat. I wish people would avail themselves of the facts before they start baying for his blood.😞

I think it shows how very accuate this testing is now and rightly so. It gives me assurance that the drug cheating of the past is now rare. There will always be occasional blips due to the amount of stuff needed for these top-performing athletes but at least this has been sorted out.

Im a great tennis fan and watch it every day and I really like(d) Jannick Sinner BUT….

He tested positive twice 8 days apart. If he was massaged once why two high tests.

How much banned substance was used to show up in the two
tests. It would have been a much higher amount to start.

He is world number 1 and his team are highly professional so it’s a bit dumb to say it was a mistake.

Miss Halep famous champion ladies player had the same test result was banned for four years and never recovered her
career.

Maria Sharapova likewise banned for using medication that was deemed acceptable, then not.

Jannick has been suffering with hip pain so perhaps he was using this steroid to help with that.

The reputation of tennis would surely suffer if the number one was found guilty of drug taking.

Nick Kyrgios has given his opinion and for once I totally agree with him.

To be perfectly frank and after listening to ex sports people speaking anonymously (not on this particular incident) I believe it’s rife in all sports.

One ex 100 metre champion spoke before the Olympic and said 90-100 % of the finalists in the 100 metres would be on some kind of performance enhancing substance.

I’ve always thought Djokovic has found some way to get past the testers as he didn’t have the stamina to outlast Nadal for years then went gluten free and bingo he was winning everything and never tired.

If they’re all at it then it’s a level playing field. The amounts of money involved is mind boggling and where there’s money…..

Unfortunately I do think it’s rife in sport generally and some countries have a certain reputation for it. China and Russia spring to mind, but of course there are cheaters of every nationality.

I know Andy Murray has always been vehemently in favour of regular testing at tennis tournaments.

I have no idea what the truth is with Sinner.

I guess Djokovic would put his success down to the fact that he refused to have the, in his opinion, harmful, dangerous covid vaccine! He’s a strange character with some bizarre customs and beliefs.

Thanks Bellasnana for giving the correct situation with Jannick Sinner. He is so well behaved similar to the great Rafa Nadal 👍🎾

Yes, I've often wondered that. From what I've seen of him, I don't like his personality so maybe that has coloured my opinions ......

Ok

The tests are very sensitive. My brother tested positive for opiates after eating a roll with poppy seeds on it!
