Would anyone please have some advice on how to clean some cutlery I have that has been discoloured by the dishwasher? Thank you.

This happened to me when someone accidentally put some silver cuttlery in with the stainless steel.
Anything close to the silver was tainted a blue/grey colour.
I've tried lots of "remedies" but sadly have no solution.

Luckily it was all old cuttlery and "odds and ends".
Fine in the mud kitchen in the garden! 😕

Think I may need to get a new set but glad yours are used in the garden. My dear mother used a fish knife in the garden because the bone handle had gone yellow! Happy gardening!

If you haven't tried these already, you could try rubbing with bicarbonate of soda mixed with vinegar for stainless steel, or soaking in bicarb diluted in warm water in a bowl with aluminium foil for silver or silver plate (EPNS). If, like me, you live in a hard water area you could try rubbing with rinse aid or even, very carefully, with limescale remover. You have to rinse thoroughly in warm water right away after all these processes.

I use odds and ends as picnic cutlery.

Indigo 8 - Thank you. I will try that.

Outcome: Huge thank you for advice. My cutlery is now sparkling thanks to lining a pyrex dish lined with tin foil, adding baking powder and pouring hot water on top. Left for 30 minutes and washed thoroughly in soapy water. Amazing!

What a good tip. How much bicarb and how much water did you use?
