There are some really sick people around .....

Yesterday I was organising the music at our big village fun day which attracts people from all the surrounding villages - there is a dog show, music, lots of stalls and activities and it is a much-loved annual event.

Three cars were stolen - the event had clearly been targeted.

Enough to make you lose faith in human nature.

I read this morning about two women being charged with sharing videos and photos of monkeys being tortured
There are so many people in this world…..😢

Oh god, I read that story earlier in the week. Between that, and the Australian 'animal expert' who was convicted of horrific animal abuse, I honestly despair. Give me animals over people any day...

I blame the internet. The explosion in perversion and utterly depraved behaviour has increased drastically since the web became available to all. People make money from a lot of this stuff and some will do anything for money.

Unfortunately organised crime works like this. Big events and larger gatherings of people attract criminals who can slip away into crowds quicker.

It is very upsetting. I hope you are okay flowers

I think this sort of thing has always gone on, and sometimes much worse. It is just now the internet shows it to us, but I don't believe it necessarily causes it.

That is so upsetting when the community is coming together for a fun time, which is so uplifting and I hope it doesn’t mar the event Luckygirl.

The only consolation is that the bad in society are by far outnumbered by the kind and good, despite how it seems when crime strikes close to home, or horrific crimes are reported on MSM or the internet.

tickingbird - I agree with you about the way the internet has negatively impacted behaviour.
Pre-Internet perverts had to make efforts to access extreme pornography or images of child sexual abuse. Now it’s on their phone instantly and I don’t see there’s any doubt it normalises dangerous behaviour.
I don’t know what we do about it other than challenge when people normalise/minimise the risks and bring our children up well

BlueBelle Sun 25-Aug-24 13:39:06

What a shame Why are people so nasty

Indigo8 Sun 25-Aug-24 13:40:39

I hope it did not put too much of a damper on the day which sounds a really worthwhile and fun occasion.

I have nothing but distain for people who steal anything. You are probably right and your fun day was probably targeted by some form of low life. Let's hope they get caught.

That is awful, I'm so sorry to read this sad angry

Iam64 Sun 25-Aug-24 13:41:38

Sorry Luckygirl - the internet/awful behaviour is different than car thieves targeting your village fun day - I expect they targeted specific makes of car as well

Luckygirl3 Sun 25-Aug-24 13:50:23

Yes - land rovers were a popular target - it is a farming area. It will put a bit of a damper on next year when people will feel they have to carefully guard not just their cars, but the cash floats on the stalls etc. It brings a bit of a cloud on the proceedings which are about local people coming together to raise funds for the local school and the church roof whilst at the same time having fun.

Mollygo Sun 25-Aug-24 14:04:01

Sorry to hear that. Whether it’s the internet spreading the word or not, theft is unacceptable.

Indigo8 Sun 25-Aug-24 14:06:33

Was there CCTV anywhere near where the cars were parked?

Namsnanny Sun 25-Aug-24 14:39:36

Were the card left unlocked?

Namsnanny Sun 25-Aug-24 14:39:55

Card = Cars

Jaxjacky Sun 25-Aug-24 14:45:06

That’s rubbish Luckygirl what a shame, these thieves are mercenary.

Calendargirl Sun 25-Aug-24 15:52:15

I know someone whose car was broken into at the crematorium when she was attending her mother’s funeral. She had left her handbag in the car. sad

Think thieves often target these occasions.

Iam64 Sun 25-Aug-24 15:58:37

It shouldn’t make any difference whether cats were locked or not. Stealing is a criminal offence, committed by people with ill intent and no respect for others

Georgesgran Sun 25-Aug-24 16:02:00

Yes, my friend had her car broken into in a hospital carpark when she was visiting her Mum.
The thieves would know she’d be there for a couple of hours.

Re the original post - I had an offer from Land Rover to contribute £200 a month towards(!) the insurance on one of their vehicles!!! I’ve heard from several people that in some areas that Range Rovers, Discoveries etc. are actually impossible to insure.

It is sickening when you or someone you know becomes a victim of theft. It has gone on forever. Some people steal. Farm equipment, tractors and such, have been stolen in my area.
A motorbike was stolen from a neighbour recently. There are gangs that steal to order. They are sent out to find what is required and are very proficient in taking it and getting rid of it. Sometimes they strip vehicles down to sell the parts.

I dont think you can simply blame the internet!

In the olden days - the VERY olden days - plays and entertainments were often performed in the streets and public squares. Pickpockets and cutpurses were attracted to such events because people were not paying attention to their possessions.

AreWeThereYet Sun 25-Aug-24 18:00:51

I hope that didn't spoil the event for you.

There have always been sick people around, we just hear more about them these days. Although the definition of sick has probably changed over the years.

There’s been a bit of a disconnect between the OP and some following post which talked of two UK women involved in the torture and killing of monkeys. I read about this case several weeks ago and had to stop reading after the first paragraph. It was beyond belief frankly and I wish I hadn’t read it. These acts were filmed for people that paid to see such evil. I’ve read before of puppies and kittens suffering similar fates for the pleasure of depraved sadists over the internet.

This is why I commented as I did. Nothing to do with theft.

Regarding the car thefts I’m afraid nothing surprises me anymore. For 3 cars to be stolen at this event they had obviously planned it beforehand.
