Yesterday was the 27th Anniversary of the death of Princess Diana

Ive never worshipped any member of the RF. I liked Diana but that was it. I like Princess Anne and admire her blunt no nonsense way of going about. I also respect some of the things that Charles has done in the environmental sense long before it became fashionable. He is also very interested in other religions and cultures and is probably one of the most intelligent members of the RF. I prefer having them to having a republic. However I would like to have a Scandi style scaled back RF.

I can't remember what I was doing.

I had a memory of a Sunday too so looked it up and we are right, Sunday 31st August.

I was very sad to hear Diana died. She had a rotten life with Charles and Camilla in the picture. Very good mother to her children and did many ordinary things with them eg Alton Towers, McDonald's etc. Charles used her to breed an heir and spare and never loved her. So very sad.
I didn't agree with her 2 boys paraded behind her coffin through the crowds. TBH I don't agree with children under 16 at funerals anyway.
Still have doubts about whether it was a genuine accident or orchestrated in some way as Al Fayed was not popular with our government. She left a letter saying about a car crash and Charles wanting her dead which seemed a strange coincidence.
I guess we will never know.

TBH, I didn't understand then and still don't why so many people were so deeply affected and glued to TV and radio all day.
Yes, of course it was tragic that people in the prime of life should die in that way and maybe I'm heartless but so many reactions seemed completely OTT. And all those millions of flowers, wrapped in cellophane and left to wither outside her home and by town halls and war memorials. That just struck me as plain weird.🤷‍♀️
I remember turning on the radio while I got breakfast and the local radio was playing sombre music (can't remember what, exactly). Then there was a news bulletin and I realised why the music but I became enormously irritated by late afternoon when virtually all the radio stations suspended normal programming and even the news was about nothing else.

I agree, it is sad when any young mother dies, but not something I wanted to be immersed in for a week. Lots of hysteria and sentimentality from people who had never and would never have known her.

Perhaps 'worship' is slightly overstating it, but there certainly seem to be many people who love the RF and think certain members can do no wrong. I do actually know one woman whose adoration of the RF, and Diana in particular, borders on actual worship. She has referred on her on several occasions as a 'saint', for instance.

We had been on a camping holiday on the West Coast of France and were due to leave for home after breakfast when we heard the news The French staff at the campsite offered us their sincere commiserations when we left. We stopped overnight at St-Mere-Eglise where the church was already filled with tealights, candles and tributes to Diana. The next day on the ferry we were all given a free copy of a broadsheet newspaper where the dreadful news was front page headline.
A memorable time indeed.

Watched the news break on tv as I got back to Oban after a holiday in Mull
Later that day my Mum rang to say my Dad had been taken to hospital a few days previously ( no mobile phones remember) and had been diagnosed with terminal cancer
He only lived a few weeks - I remember him watching the route the funeral would take and saying of a particular arch “ no chance of me going under that!”
Sometimes 27 yrs feels like yesterday and at other times an eternity

My son burst into our bedroom early the next morning, having just returned from his paper round, with the words “Diana’s dead!”
The day of her funeral was also the day my nephew got married. We had travelled down the previous day and were getting ready for the wedding in a hotel room, watching the funeral coverage at the same time. I felt rather sorry that the conversation at the wedding was all about Diana!

I remember hearing the news in the morning thinking it was such a waste of a life, and really feeling for her sons. I had been at a similar age when my mother died in a car accident, & they had the extra stress of being part of the royal family. Respect to them for, years later, bravely speaking up about how they had coped or not coped , as that may have been helpful to other bereaved youngsters and their families.

Since that day how life has changed and 27 years on the third person in the marriage is now queen . Who would have believed it

There were more than 3 people in that marriage

I am unlikely to ever forget the date as my late husband also died on 1st September (2017) It will be etched on my mind forever

Many divorcées on GN have possibly been the third person or experienced a third person in a marriage.
Should we deny any of them the right to future happiness?

I remember getting up in the morning to be told by my son the beautiful pow had died in a car accident could not believe it.watched all the news bulletins, hoping that she was still alive but sadly no she was gone. Went out later that morning and you could feel the air heavy with grief it was unbelievable. People that were out and about looked so solem . I will never forget the mood of that day.

I went to an early fleamarket and as I was sitting in the cafeteria I saw a crowd watching the TV. There were people carrying flowers and laying them down (outside Kensington Palace I later learned). When I was informed what was going on I was truly shocked.

I remember subsequently visiting Harrods and seeing a little shrine there with pictures of Diana and Dodi. On the day of her funeral all the local shops closed for the day.I lit a candle for her in the window.

I remember seeing that too, and would I be right in thinking that the diamond ‘engagement’ ring was there, along with the champagne glasses Diana and Dodi had been using in the Ritz?

I was listening to Mike Dickin on Talk Radio, and he announced about the crash, but then there was a call from a man who said that he lived next to the Pont de L’Alma, and had seen Diana walk into the ambulance. He was never heard of again, so I presume he was making it up. The more it was discussed, and sounded bad, made me get up and put on the television. The Bodach slept through it, as did whatever children were in the house at the time.

When Diana died in the early hours of 31st August I was at a party, the news broke on the radio as I was driving home, a dreadful shock.

On the lower ground floor at the foot of the Egyptian escalator there is a statue and a candle-lit shrine to Dodi and Diana - their images beneath a pyramid-shaped display case containing a ring Dodi had given Diana and the wine glass she used in her last meal. It was said at one time that the condolence book was so popular that it had to be replaced every 10 days.

Sorry but AlFayed was not a man of honour , do you think Diana would switch from wanting to marry one man to another man in weeks ? The staff at the Ritz kept the glass why?

I am not normally a great believer in conspiracy theories but a number of things about the circumstances of PD's death worry me.
