Screening mammogram

I usually had to wait some time. The only time I got the result quickly was when it was abnormal.

I wait longer than that for mine.... I get yearly ones as I've had BC ...mine usually take 3 weeks
It will be ok....scans are double checked by qualified doctors....if there is an issue after the first check then a 2nd check is done quickly...so they can contact the person ASAP.....if there is no concern at first check they are put in a pile for a 2nd check....which happens when they can .....I would imagine yours is sitting in that little 2nd checking pile ....it won't be too much longer I hope

I had this in July. Rang up for the result when more than two weekls had passed. The person I spoke to emailed me the result. Needless to say, the letter arrived the same day!

Quite often letters are filed on the NHS App way before you get the letter through the post. If you haven't already, download the app and sign up. You will normally get appointments through the app too so you don't miss them when Royal Mail are struggling to deliver letters on time.

I think that's a normal wait. After I had BC I waited 3 weeks for the follow up results by post. It never occured to me to look on my NHS app where they'd been posted shortly after I'd had the mammogram.

9 out of 10 recalls are innocent
.....could be they didn't get a good enough image
.....maybe you have some calcifications they want to investigate further ( which are generally not suspicious) ....or a benign lump.....9 out of 10 people with a recall will be fine.....hard not to worry....but the odds are in your favour....hope all.goeswell

I had my mammogram on 19th August. They said the results would be 6 to 8 weeks and asked if I had any holidays planned. Results arrived 2 weeks later, all o.k. I am in Wales

I don’t have them any more but when I had the last one last year I had the result in just a few days.

My experience is that when I had a normal reading the results came in a fortnight. When I had an abnormal reading I had a letter in less than a week calling me in very soon. That appointment confirmed I had stage 1 cancer and I had an operation within weeks. I think from my first mammogram to the lumpectomy was around a month. This was in Oxfordshire in 2017.

I only had to wait a week, healthcare relating to cancer has really improved in my area. I had a melanoma two years ago and it was dealt with very swiftly. I had to go for further tests on my left boob, within a few days. After my previous issue I was certain it was cancer. I had an ultrasound and biopsy and couldn’t believe it when they rang me to tell me it was benign.

Just read that abnormal results are quicker, that makes sense!

I get the results of my mammogram straight afterwards. Usually examined by a Dr then given the results. A further check of the mammogram is done and those results in two weeks. Different system here.

Actually, when I had a worry recently about the boob which had the cancerous lump, I was put on the 2-week pathway thing and seen by a specialist in under two weeks. I had a mammogram which the specialist had looked at before I was called in. All good, fortunately.

I had a mammogram on 26th August, and got my results on 4th September. Pleased the results came back so quickly, it's always a bit of an anxious time.

Had a requested routine mammogram about 10 days ago, had the result (all clear) a week later.

We don't have the NHS app in Scotland it seems 😕.

It's such a worrying time waiting for the results. Even if you go privately for regular screening, you still have to wait a week or more to hear. I'm guessing that's maybe because two doctors have to check the films, and there aren't always that many specialists on duty in the clinic?
@sodapop I too was told immediately when I went for screening abroad. Well, actually, I was ushered straight into another room for an ultrasound there and then to confirm or rule out the findings. I assume this is to have all the necessary information to hand for any follow up, and saves getting the patient back in again.
There is, however, a one stop clinic isn’t there on the NHS? Is this where the GP refers you?
