However, I'm forever grateful we always shower together. Big shower space is brilliant, in my opinion and saves water - I suppose.

How lovely at last someone with sense. How can you be married 30+ years and worry about what your husband sees and does''t see, surely he has seen every part of you by now, if not it would not be my type of marriage.

I don't think anyone said they were worried what their husband sees -- many don't want to do teeth together. I don't either, and we can clean our own sink in different bathroom after teeth, make up, shaving.

I think twin wash basins in an ensuite are quite normal nowadays and a good idea too, don't see any problem.

Twin basins in the bathroom are kind of fun if you’ve got two toddlers learning especially with a step stool- so 😊 cute.

A separate loo is a bonus but must (imo) always have a full sized wash basin. Not those dinky little affairs.

There were already twin basins* in the ensuite when we bought our house ages ago. We kept two when we updated it. We don’t often use both, but it’s handy now and then to have them.

*to me, sinks belong in the kitchen! Or the utility, not that we have one of those. Dh often refers to the washbasins as ‘sinks’ - it’s a minor irritation to me, but not as bad as his explosive sneezes - like a bomb going off!

You are correct Witzend; it's an irritation to me too. A plumber told me that in the trade they refer to sinks in the kitchen and basins in the bathroon/ensuite.

I love Lottery dream home too, the bigger the budget the better! I wouldn’t like twin basins, if I had pots of money I would like my own bathroom, no one needs to see me cleaning my teeth or washing etc.

Basin from the days when the the maid would bring up a jug of hot water for madam to wash after pouring it into a basin. The lower classes washed in kitchen sink, the razor strop hanging behind the door, I know, I was there. I wonder why a sink is called a sink. And while I'm here what happened to.the ground? These days people ways fall to the floor, even in middle of the park.

An cleaning teeth in the kitchen doesn't do it for me either!
But sometimes it's one thing or another.. and we each choose the one that's best for us.

We managed with one bathroom for 7 of us at one point.
We were lucky to have separate toilets though (and the privilege of 24/7 hot water).

We had a huge bathroom in our last house and put twin basins in to make it look better. I can honestly say that we never both used them at once.

I like two washbasins ina beautiful bathroom.

I do NOT like a WC in the place I clean my teeth 😱 ...so unless it's a particularly huge bathroom I would find this off-putting.

My son cleans his teeth in his kitchen, never the WC.

I wouldn't like to wash alongside anyone else.

DH tends to throw water everywhere when performing his ablutions, I'd end up wetter than I intended to be.

We have inherited said double basins in one of our en-suite
DH uses one, I use another bathroom .

I can't imagine sharing a bathroom nowadays but it was quite normal years ago when I lived with other people.. w never had double sinks though, we just jostled

Look on Amazon. Gizmos which can be fitted to normal loos which perform the necessary.

First thing in the morning, crotchety, side by side in the bathroom abluting. Can think of nothing worse. Double basins a non-starter.

Some years ago we spent a couple of nights at the (then) newly renovated Midland Hotel in Morecambe. It was lovely and we had a huge room, but we were amazed to find twin TOILETS neatly next to each other in the bathroom. At first I thought one was a bidet, but no ……

That has reassured me Norah!
I remember Jane MacDonald being interviewed on TV , she was asked what she loved most about her new house. She replied without hesitation

No you're not unusual.

We use different bathrooms, each have own basins for teeth/hands. I'm not wanting to see him do his teeth and shaving. I'm quite sure he feels no inclination to see me do teeth and makeup.

Bathrooms - 1 basin in each.

Kitchen - 2 deep sinks.

Laundry/utility - 1 very deep sink for difficult tasks.

If I redo the Bathroom, definitely 2 sinks.. And one of those fancy Loo's that washes your undercarriage.
Would also like a PowerPoint for Hairdryer and things that need to be charged.

I would absolutely love a “wash your bum” loo!

I could be wrong but I understood that the "restroom" was near the toilet facilities in public buildings in Victorian times.

I know there was an area with comfortable seating, a sofa or two etc near the ladies toilets in the department store my mother favoured. I have memories of sitting there (reading) amongst other women who seemed to be just hanging out there, chatting and looking at fashion magazines.
Obviously serious shopping is exhausting!

I wonder if this word developed with the advent of the railways?

Why do Americans call the bathroom/WC a 'restroom'? It sounds as though all of them, however tough and rugged, need to have a little lie down several times a day - which I believe is not the case.

It's a lavatory!

Preferably with a wash basin.
