Is everyone having these dreadful storms?

They started yesterday afternoon and have continued. I have honestly not seen so much lightning in my whole life. The sky is pink. We have had hailstones like gob stoppers, crackling lightning almost constantly through the night, rain drops like golf balls. The thunder vibrates so much it is setting off car alarms. It has flooded main roads and feels almost apocalyptic (I must stop watching all those trending films on netflix!)

I'm sorry if there has been another thread about this....I did look

No storms in S Hampshire at all, the odd shower and in the 20’s.

Bridie22 Sun 22-Sept-24 18:24:41

No storms in NE, just another week of cold grey, foggy misty, drizzly days 🥶

Visgir1 Sun 22-Sept-24 18:29:40

Dry with sunny spells bit overcast now on my part of the South Coast, Hampshire.

Loads of rain in mid Wales, but no thunder and lightning since last night. The sky is very sullen though, it looks like it will be raining for hours yet.

No storms, but a dull, damp day 😫

Truly shocking here in Northamptonshire. We've had thunderstorms on and off since yesterday afternoon and rain on a biblical scale. I can't remember it ever being this bad - garden and road flooded yet we're quite high up and not in a flood plain. Never mind - we're safe, warm and waterproof [so far!]

It’s funny how it can be so different so close I expect we ll suffer at some point it seems to be missing East Anglia out for a change fingers crossed for tomorrow Still got my deckchair in the garden amongst my lovely pink Nerines

We had a party outside yesterday lunchtime with just a very short shower, though it rained hard overnight.

Saturday was awful here; and today. But - miracle of miracles yesterday afternoon and evening were dry, mild and still for my SIL's 50th outdoor birthday party - phew!

We’re at friends, apparently at home 17 miles up the road in south Glos it’s been largely dry 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm in South Gloucestershire and it's been incredibly wet here all day.

Here in Bristol it’s been rain, rain and more rain and the same is forecast for the rest of the day and all day tomorrow. My pampas grass is flat on the ground.

flappergirl Sun 22-Sept-24 20:03:48

It's a warm 18 degrees here in Bristol. We've had 2 days of more or less non stop torrential rain but so far no thunder. There's no wind either, which makes a change in this neck of the woods. The sunsets, between the ominous clouds, have been spectacular over the Severn.

Hello fellow Bristolian Nightsky!

Yesterday, here in North Leicestershire. we had temperatures of 20° with bright sunshine at around 2.30.

A couple of hours later it we were in the midst of a thunderstorm with black skies and lightning flashes. The rain continued all night.

Apparently, tomorrow will be similar.

EkwaNimitee Sun 22-Sept-24 20:21:31

Cool, grey and dry in Carlisle, even a glint of sun occasionally. Previous days have been pleasantly warm and sunny. No rain for days.

South Oxfordshire: A lot of rain, but at intervals. A local town had flooded streets yesterday.

I have looked at the Lightening map www.lightningmaps.org/#m=oss;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=0.00;ts=0;z=8;y=52.1773;x=-0.7663;d=2;dl=2;dc=0; and it shows current activity is centred on Milton keynes, but moving southwards. Also the bay of Biscay and the south of France!

JaneJudge Sun 22-Sept-24 20:30:10

It looks nearer Peterborough? We are further south but still same conditions with so much lightning
Maybe I’m Noah

We’re in Somerset. Very wet today, less so yesterday and so far no thunder or lightning. More heavy rain forecast tomorrow when I need to venture forth for physio. . Some local roads were under water when we went out this morning, car said a mere 16 degrees. I’ve felt cold for the last two days. Tuesday looks better 🤞.

Oh joy!
There were certainly flooded streets and roads closed in Lavendon, Olney, Northampton, Newport Pagnell all around me.
And don’t tell me the gardens needed rain!

It was lively flying into Gatwick yesterday.
Oddly, I was returning from Bergen, which is famous for rain ( notorious? ) which had been dry and sunny.

Sarnia Mon 23-Sept-24 08:34:48

Here in SE Surrey we have had the lot. Thunder, lightening, rain like a waterfall and hail stones. I stood in the dining room where there is a large lantern on the flat roof worrying what did I have large enough to catch the rainwater should the hailstones break the glass lantern. Thankfully, it stayed in one piece!

That’s the ring doorbell charged and showing a dull overcast morning on the east coast of Fife.
I’m afraid I’ve still got the lurgy, paracetamols at the ready just when I thought I had kicked it into touch.

Keep safe my friends lots of viruses going about.
