Is everyone having these dreadful storms?

They started yesterday afternoon and have continued. I have honestly not seen so much lightning in my whole life. The sky is pink. We have had hailstones like gob stoppers, crackling lightning almost constantly through the night, rain drops like golf balls. The thunder vibrates so much it is setting off car alarms. It has flooded main roads and feels almost apocalyptic (I must stop watching all those trending films on netflix!)

I'm sorry if there has been another thread about this....I did look

TheWeirdo

I absolutely love storms, all the thunder, lightening etc. !

Me too!
But no such thing here in North Devon 🤷‍♀️

Non stop rain in north east 🫤

ExDancer Mon 23-Sept-24 12:40:11

Cumbria here, Monday, after a glorious 5 days sunshine we had light rain overnight. Today its overcast with light showers.
Its a change for us to have the best weather in the country, and we do sympathise with all you people with floods (but we've had our fair share) lets hope it soon clears up

Not much in East Anglia as usual! Some at night but lovely sunshine now!

jojochurchy Mon 23-Sept-24 12:13:30

many storms here in Bedfordshire (3 overnight Sat/Sun), and roads flooded. Lots of traffic warnings today with roads/schools closed.
What a night to choose to plug in my ev!!

Flooded roads in west of outer London last night and I got soaked on the school run this morning, but brighter now and dry. I've had a thick bathmat outside drying since Friday!

Steadily raining from the early hours in S Hants and 15 outside, gloomy.

Our BBC forecast suggests 90% chance of heavy rain all day so definitely no gardener and the lights on constantly. Very dismal, but so far not life threatening.

North Suffolk we had a very warm weekend, waiting for a thunderstorm that never came. Started raining last night but stopped again now. Weather always seems to go around us!

Maya1 Mon 23-Sept-24 10:03:49

Heavy rain here, today and yesterday. I'm in Cambridgeshire.

The forecast says rain all week here.

Oh, and a huge tree came down at the end of our road, opposite the village primary school! Fortunately it was very early and no people or cars were about. It could have been disastrous.

One thunderstorm on Friday here in Berkshire. It must have been raining overnight and there could have been another storm but I don't sleep with my hearing aids in and I'd miss the crack of doom!

Two nights of heavy rain, thunder and lightening in SE London/Kent, but it was dry and warm yesterday and the washing dried! No rain here at the moment.

Torrential rain last night South of London, like thunder rain but no thunder and it didn’t ease off for ages. Glad in a way because we haven’t had substantial rain for ages and the ground is cracking is so dry.

bikergran Mon 23-Sept-24 09:35:32

North Lancashire here, nothing much than a bit of rain.

Charleygirl5 Mon 23-Sept-24 09:22:42

I considered hanging out washing yesterday as it was dry in my part of outer London. Late evening it was torrential rain but no thunder or lightning although neither would wake me once I was asleep.

I have cancelled a coffee with a friend today at Oxford Street because many tubes were suspended.

Like Bluebelle, I’ve been enjoying the sunshine on the east coast, and have had to use the hose in the garden. Hydrangeas were drooping. The promised rain wasn’t at all useful, all of five minutes. Expect the heavy rain will come when I take the dog out 🤣

gma Mon 23-Sept-24 09:01:02

Here in Norfolk we have had virtually no rain for well over a month! All our water butts are dry as a bone! Not had a day for ages when I could not dry washing outside. Very short shower yesterday afternoon but 2 miles away it was torrential! Wet this morning, very small puddles! but will it last! Garden shouting out for rain!
I’m not complaining, but would be nice to see garden a little bit greener!
Ps….not raining now!

South Bucks constant rain. Water slowly dripping through our shower room window, that’s the one DH made watertight 😏

Bonnybanko Mon 23-Sept-24 08:43:35

That’s the ring doorbell charged and showing a dull overcast morning on the east coast of Fife.
I’m afraid I’ve still got the lurgy, paracetamols at the ready just when I thought I had kicked it into touch.

Keep safe my friends lots of viruses going about.

Here in SE Surrey we have had the lot. Thunder, lightening, rain like a waterfall and hail stones. I stood in the dining room where there is a large lantern on the flat roof worrying what did I have large enough to catch the rainwater should the hailstones break the glass lantern. Thankfully, it stayed in one piece!

It was lively flying into Gatwick yesterday.
Oddly, I was returning from Bergen, which is famous for rain ( notorious? ) which had been dry and sunny.

M0nica

South Oxfordshire: A lot of rain, but at intervals. A local town had flooded streets yesterday.

I have looked at the Lightening map www.lightningmaps.org/#m=oss;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=0.00;ts=0;z=8;y=52.1773;x=-0.7663;d=2;dl=2;dc=0; and it shows current activity is centred on Milton keynes, but moving southwards. Also the bay of Biscay and the south of France!

Oh joy!
There were certainly flooded streets and roads closed in Lavendon, Olney, Northampton, Newport Pagnell all around me.
And don’t tell me the gardens needed rain!

We’re in Somerset. Very wet today, less so yesterday and so far no thunder or lightning. More heavy rain forecast tomorrow when I need to venture forth for physio. . Some local roads were under water when we went out this morning, car said a mere 16 degrees. I’ve felt cold for the last two days. Tuesday looks better 🤞.
