Sago

In the UK GCSE’s ran from 9th May to the 19th of June.
The election was called on 22nd May.
Starmer junior had at the most 27 days until his exams ended.
It must have been very lovely accommodation.

I'm going to charging my visitors.
Now, what's the going rate?
😃

Actually, I do know people who rent their drives out but I don't think I'd get £20,000 for 6 weeks.

The cost of the accommodation was estimated at £20,000 when declared. That makes it some gift.

Does he have gold taps in all the bathrooms? shock

Oh you are so funny!

Can anyone remember the constant anti Tory debate on here?. It was endless. I criticised them as well
Please don't think I'm a Conservative voter.

Do look at the Guardian article which tells us Keir Starmer has had 100 grand of freebies. Even more than Boris!

No, I've already said that.

I can't remember it at all.
There are lots of threads, which I can't find, and the one about boris' wedding is nowhere near as scathing as the Starmer ones.

Look at the Brexit and Covid threads…

Well this is food for thought. Yes I voted labour as I’m typically working class and proud. But disappointed like others about the withdrawal of the winter fuel payment I hope he can persuade me he’s going to do some good for the pensioners with the triple lock and in other areas. Time will tell.

Visgir1 Wed 25-Sept-24 17:17:34

That's a incredible amount for just swoting up his GCSE's, my DC just had their Bedrooms.

OK, so his Dad was on the campaign trail but didn't they have any close relatives who could have helped out?

Also why did he need that much help and solitude?

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 17:18:02

The covid threads would be well deserved, if they are scathing.
Because that was important enough for people to get angry about, involving life and death.

The word "sausages" just doesn't work for me as a source of anger.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 17:22:43

The idiot laughing his way through the queen's funeral made me really angry, as did Cummings going for a jaunt in his car "to test his eyesight".

Any criticism was justified - total and utter pi'' taking.

silverlining48 Wed 25-Sept-24 17:24:17

We use sausages to make us smile for photos… sausages! grin

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 17:26:24

Ah... I'll try that out, I think.

Probably one jammed in my mouth is needed, today. smile

I've just looked back and the endless threads criticising Johnson et al referred to Tory sleaze.

Freebies sounds rather a mild criticism in comparison.

Bring back the days of Michael Foot and even Jeremy Corbyn in his tracksuit grin

A lot of kids are lucky to have a corner of the kitchen table to study while life goes on around them. Starker junior is very lucky to have a benefactor. Most kids don't have that.

We only had a very small house and I do remember I used one of the little tables from a nest of tables, was allowed to go in the front room with the fire and no television was allowed for anyone until I'd finished my homework.
In the summer I remember revising outside in the garden (it never seemed to rain in those days).

Of course, this is perfectly normal for a millionaire to use cash from donations.

The tribalism and double standards in here are very amusing.

Imagine if this had been Rishi Sunak. Would you have supported him? No of course not. And neither would I.

I'm not so filled with this weird attitude that one's favoured political party is akin to supporting a football team.

Me neither.I’ll criticise them all quite happily.

And praise them if they get it right!

Yes, he is extremely lucky.

However, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t nervous, that the election didn’t disrupt both his and siblings lives and journalists can be extremely intrusive.

vegansrock Wed 25-Sept-24 17:59:57

The difference is KS has declared all this stuff. Johnson didn’t declare all his freebie holidays and the taxpayer forked out for a lot of his excesses- gold wallpaper and the like.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 18:05:04

I suppose the question is, lucky or due to his father's hard work?

It's an oft spoken sentiment here, that people have got where they are through their own hard work.

I expect it's probably exactly the same for Starmers son.

He is the perfect example of how hard work pays off, surely?

His father did well and is wealthy, so his dad mixes with other wealthy people.

It would be double standards to think otherwise.

Oh, according to the link given, it was the dear Lord Alli again.
Something very suspect about him I think.

He has fingers in several pies, doesn't he!
What's he hoping for in exchange? And who is he anyway?

I feel sorry for the children of politicians, journalists should leave them alone to get on with their lives.
I hope Starmer Jnr did well in his GCSEs.

Lord Allí is a committed Labour supporter and activist, he has been a Labour Peer for 26 years. He is very wealthy and already has a seat in the House Of Lords so I don’t see what people think his motive is other than supporting Labour Party members and wanting them to get into government . Would people be this vociferous if Lord Sugar, for example, had offered a place for a politician’s child to study? Nobody said a word when Boris Johnson tried to get a tree house worth £150,000 for his toddler son built at Chequers and funded by a donor

The daily onslaughts on Keir Starmer and now his family from the right wing media are disgusting. I hope they are this diligent and vociferous when the COVID inquiry is complete and published.

theres no such thing as a free lunch.

I think you are wrong about this,
Silverlining - lots of us have friends (and even strangers) go way out of their way to be helpful.

Free lunches are abundant in my experience. People are generally kind, empathetic and want to be helpful.

People help others.
And even wealthy people and politicians need help sometimes.

Want to know about Lord Alli? Read the link above.

Seems like a “good guy” on the surface with absolutely nothing to gain and everything to give!

You don't get much for £20,000 in Covent Garden, which is where the apartment is situated.

This one is available for £14,551pcm, if anybody wants somewhere.

Presumably it was not being inhabited by tenants at the time.
