Bestest present ever!

I forgot the lovely ring dh gave me right after dd2 was born - emerald and diamonds. I’d never had an engagement ring* so it was extra special.

*to dh at the time, ‘getting engaged’ was desperately uncool! I wasn’t really bothered though.

My husband came home with a yellow Fiat 500, I loved it!

Without meaning to be selfish, the best present I ever received was from me to me as I bought myself a ticket to the Everly Brothers Reunion Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983.

I was 18 and had worshipped them for years! I was buzzin' for weeks afterwards!

My green Hercules bicycle for Christmas when I was eight. The freedom he gave me was wonderful.
I fell in love with my current bike because it reminded me of him.

My wonderful cochlear implant was switched on on my birthday. The most life changing thing ever, I’d been profoundly deaf for several years. Magical!

DH for a birthday bought me a small pointed trowel with a wooden handle and brass fixings in a little leather scabbard. It was an old one from a 2nd hand shop...but perfectly balanced and useful. I use it constantly.

When I was leaving work to have my first baby, amongst all the gorrgeous baby presents,including the pram, somebody gave me a pretty new nightdress and some lovely 'smellies' just for me.

My lovely family all got together and painted little self portraits For my birthday .They framed them and gave me them at a birthday dinner.Ithangs in my kitchen and makes me smile every day .The little square with two question marks on it was GD no 4 she has since had a wee sister and they plan to do an update of the portraits this Christmas.Nothing makes me happier than my kids being happy together

I was hoping to get some money for clothes for my seventeenth birthday but my father insisted on a course of driving lessons.

I didn’t realise at the time that it was the best present he could have given me.

I wouldn't have thought of that but reading your answer I realise you're right. I can't imagine not being able to drive. My granddad had been a driving instructor, so taught me when I was 17, although by then he was retired. Our family never had a car so when I bought my first old banger when I was still a student it was our first family car. My dad could drive but hated it and mum couldn't drive for medical reasons, so without my granddad's intervention I would not have found it easy.

When I was 13 my dad bought me the latest Beatles for Sale album for my birthday. It was the fact that he'd had to go into town and into the local record shop to buy it, that meant so much to me. He was forever telling me that the Beatles would never last. I'm nearly 73 now and still have it even though we have nothing to play it on. I've probably worn it out anyway.

My daughter bought me a dna testing kit which was quick to use and showed some info. Then she and our son bought me the enhanced one to do my family tree. My son offered to do all the research for me. For about 6 months he would phone me with updates on a weekly basis. He discovered so many interesting people. It was truly a great present.

A pair of diamond stud earrings from my DH one Christmas. Such a surprise, and I don’t often take them out. Love them.

Growing up, our family had very little. We had a drunken, violent father who worked when he felt like it. There were seven of us children. Somehow my mother made sure we always had a decent Christmas.

One year she took me and my older sister to a local toy shop and let us choose a doll. I was about 8. We were then allowed to have the doll dressed how we wanted. My doll was blonde. I chose a beautiful blue and white striped Crinoline dress and matching hat, like a Southern Belle. I was thrilled with her and even now at 75 I can picture her.

BigBertha1 that happened to me last December, 56 years after she was adopted! So I now have another daughter, another son-in-law and and two more granddaughters. Is it a present? It's ceretainly one of the best things ever to happen to me. Congratulations to you too.

I have enjoyed reading these posts so very much! Some very touching stories. I can't really think of a gift, but my very unexpected pregnancy at age 28, who was nearly a termination, turned out to be the most wonderful daughter I could have ever imagined!

I have long wanted to keep chickens, but couldn't justify the expense. For my 60th my son renovated a second hand coup and the rest of the family clubbed together and that bought a safe (supposedly) fox proof run I had no idea until the week before my birthday.
I really struggled being 60 it was a horrible time for me and my 4 'ladies' cheered me up no end !!! They're absolutely feral and live up to their dinosaur heritage but are such fun one has a dreadful crush on my son and follows him around when not safely ensconced or she started lovingly through the wire mesh if he's working in the garden Plus fresh gorgeous golden yolked eggs every day I love them best present ever

My late husband always bought really thoughtful gifts but one really stands out. We had been wandering around the jewellery arcade in Glasgow and I mentioned I liked a very stunning diamond ring. I wasn't hinting as I already had an engagement ring, eternity ring, as well, as several other pieces of jewellery. Thought no more of it and a few weeks later we were all sitting in bed opening our Christmas stockings with the children, and there, right at the bottom of the stocking, was the ring! I have no idea how he managed to go back and buy it but it is absolutely beautiful and I wear everyday. He really was a lovely man.

Working full time and mother of three, I had about a months worth of ironing staring me in the face one Christmas Eve and hosting the whole family over the holidays. Had a lie in on Boxing Day and when I got up my lovely Mum had done it all!

What a wonderful mother-in-law. Wedding present from (now ex) in-laws was a second hand fridge freezer which broke down 6 months later resulting in losing all my home grown veg as well as all the meals I had batch cooked as we were both working full-time. Best present I have ever had was a National Trust membership. We have visited so many places we could never have afforded to.

My best birthday present was being a Zoo keeper for the day, I loved every minute of the experience, you should have seen my happy grin as I shoveled Rhino poo into a wheel barrow

mrsba That reminds me of the present we once gave my mother. We managed to organise a meeting with Guy the gorilla. She bought some huge peaches, which were his favourites, and while the keeper made sure that he put both his hands through the bars together she was able to drop the peaches into his hands. He rolled each peach round in his mouth, spat out the stone, and swallowed the rest.

I've spoken before about my best ever present - the rocking horse my father made me for Christmas, when I was six. At that age it was the size of a real pony, a perfect dapple grey. In all the last 72 years I've never had anything so exciting.
