Welcome!

Thank you for all your support, especially of late. I greatly appreciate your patience. You are truly the best.

Buffet is open. For those who enjoy a glass of bubbly, there is plenty in the chill cabinet.

Enjoy!

I must away for a wee while. I shall catch up later. flowers

See what I mean, brook nonchalantly posts a picture of 2 cake thingies without batting an eyelid!

brook2704 Wed 09-Oct-24 19:50:49

🤣 🤣 Jax* it was DGD that made most of it!

I’ve had a fairly busy day today. Left messages for a pest control company to ring me back, and a chap to clean the gutters. Then had a physio session for my achy knee, it can take 6-12 weeks to heal! This afternoon I had an appointment for a practice nurse/paramedic to look at my sore toe!
The pest control people are coming tomorrow to investigate if I have a wasps nest and where it is. The gutter man will clear the gutters when the wasps have been disposed of!
I have antibiotics for the toe, but the capsules are too big for me to swallow, so I have to empty out the powder & mix it with soft food (jam) . Seems ok, will see if if it works.
Thoughts to all those with illness and worries to deal with. Safe travels home for fgt and her DH.
Night night everyone.

Grannmarie Wed 09-Oct-24 21:59:43

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

Beautiful baking, brook. I'm sorry about your daughter's situation. Thankfully you and your DH are nearby to support her and your grandchildren.

SueD, good to see you. Thinking about you and your DH.

Grandmabatty, I'm so glad you had a lazy day, you work so hard!

FGTS, safe journey home. Sounds like you've had a wonderful time in your special place!

Usual Wednesday, up and out early to pick up my friend for Mass and Coffee Morning.
She really enjoys helping in the kitchen,
and rolling up and down the hall in her wheelchair collecting the donations. Quite a good turnout, nice catch up.

Air fryer salmon and couscous for dinner.

TOYA, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow. Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening and a good night's sleep. NNGB.

A warm welcome AskAlice. I like your name. smile Lovely to have you with us, mamma. Please stay.

Blossoming, NannyG4, Yia - together with all of our Granspals dealing with challenges of whatever kind, I trust that your visits to our Kitchen provide you with comfort.

soop Wed 09-Oct-24 23:00:20

Redcar I am sorry that you having to deal with an achy knee and a sore toe.

The flu/covid jabs can certainly cause a nasty reaction in some people. Mr Soop and I have our jabs booked very soon. Apart from a stiff, sore arm I've not suffered . Mr Soop on the other hand, was proper poorly for some days. Never the less the vaccines are a must.

I am away to my bed. Between waking up and washing the breakfast dishes this morning, I have mislaid my prescription reading specs. We have hunted high and low. Empied the waste bin, shone a torch under all the furniture, taken cushions out of chairs and even took all the washing out of the machine just in case the specs had been picked up with them. It's a complete mystery.

I read P.D. James for an hour before going to sleep. In the mornings I read another chapter. We've stripped the bed...no specs! I shall have to use a pair of standby specs. They are not the optician's prescription kind.

I wish you all a sound night's sleep and plenty of sweet dreams. smile moon

dustyangel Wed 09-Oct-24 23:43:46

I hope you find your own specs soon soop, I use the generic ones and they’re ok but that’s all. I’m sorry that the surgeon wasn’t able to give you more positive news. Good to see you looking so well and happy with Baggs.

I’ve caught up with everyone else’s news and decided that I need to read and digest it again tomorrow so that I remember individual’s news.
We had horrible weather here in Portugal this morning, strong winds and driving rain and the outside stairs are covered in squelchy olives. Hoping the rain would stop we risked going out at lunch time and then watched Portuguese lunchtime tv news with pictures of horrendous flooding and mudslides in the north. But it did lighten up and stop raining later. DNephew will be pleased we’ve had more rain, he’s not on mains and was worrying about having to buy some in.

Sleep well everyone, I’m hoping to read until midnight so that I can message our niece who will be sixty tomorrow. She’s out tonight at a dinner and presentation evening for over 400 people that she has organised so I know that she will be up and wide awake.

Redcar Thu 10-Oct-24 07:39:54

soop I feel really stupid and wimpish moaning about my knee & toe, when I look at all the real health issues many gransnetters have! Sorry for being silly everyone! Have a good day.

Baggs Thu 10-Oct-24 08:48:16

soop, are those your prescription reading glasses in the photo of we two taken the other day?

Naughtyneine Thu 10-Oct-24 13:23:58

Hi All. Currently in Henrietta Moho on the way to Surrey for work... The two smallest dogs ( not that small) have just finally settled down having didn't the first half an hour vying to get on my lap and when that didn't work proceeded to lick DH's ear. We've now strapped them onto their bed and I'm avoiding making eye contact. Sulking doesn't even come close.
Soop...I do hope the glasses reappear soon. Granmarie and I would be calling on St Anthony at this stage... He is the patron saint of lost things. I love PD James...I remember discovering her...Ruth Rendell and Colin Dexter at the same time... My head was never out of one of their books for months.
Safe journey home FGT.... Fingers crossed that the predicted high winds across Europe come after you are home.
Redcar don't feel foolish. Pain is debilitating and most of us on here have experienced it and know how you feel.
Corner ..I hope you both feel better soon and you too Grandma
Dusty... How lovely to see you....Ditto awful weather...I hate heading into Autumn/Winter and blossom when the clocks go forward in March.
Brook....I do feel for your DD and DHC and hope very much that life begins to treat them more kindly than of late. Thank goodness you are there for them.
AskAlice and Mamma... You will definitely not regret visiting the kitchen...you will find nothing but kindness here.
LlFL.. Have a brilliant holiday...pictures if you can!
Sending love to all who are struggling in any way just now.

brook2704 Thu 10-Oct-24 16:10:54

Good afternoon kitchen pals, I’m just back home from an enjoyable volunteering session this afternoon. We should have picked up DGD from school and brought her back here for a sleepover but she wasn’t feeling very well at school today so DD2 picked her up early and she’s staying home with her mum this evening.
Thank you all for your kind words about DD2, the house move is something and nothing in the big scheme of things but like everyone else you just want your children and grandchildren to be happy and settled. They’ll all just have to try to make the most of it for the time being and see what happens in a few months
I hope you’ve found your glasses soop I know that feeling very well!
Safe journey in Henrietta neine and hoping FGT is safely home now too
A very Happy Birthday to your niece Dusty 🥂
Love to all in the quiet corner ❤️

GrannyGravy13 Thu 10-Oct-24 16:17:14

I am on Granny duty for DS4’s two. Collected them from school and now at gymnastics (Matt Whitlock the Olympian started at this club)

Will take them to their home and return to ours to cook for the 8yr old and DH.

Hope you find your specs soop

Grandmabatty Thu 10-Oct-24 18:40:25

Evening Kitcheners. Brook I hope your dgd is better soon. Maybe the delayed move is affecting her. Neine happy motor homing! Soop I hope your specs turn up soon.
Another quiet day for me. I did clean the birdbath and the solar fountain and hoovered and washed all the floors. The house is tidy. I'll sort out a washing tonight and get it done to hang out in the morning. I'm waiting for a delivery. I've ordered part of dgs1's Christmas present and it's supposed to arrive today. Have a good evening Kitcheners

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 10-Oct-24 19:40:28

‘Evening All’.

We are home again jiggety jig. Just enjoying tea and hot buttered toast - food of the gods. The decorator has done a grand job. 😁

Redcar Thu 10-Oct-24 19:53:23

neine I hope your trip in Henrietta Moho goes well and that the two small dogs behave themselves.
I had my Covid jab today, my arm is only very slightly achy so far. 🤞it stays that way.
The wasp man came this afternoon and found a small nest in the loft, round the plastic hose leading from the bathroom fan. When I ran the fan, five dead wasps fell out. He treated the nest in the loft, then blew some sort of powder through a long tube into the outlet for the fan. (That’s where the little blighters were getting in, they should all be dead now, but I have to check outside for a few days to see if there’s any activity.
I feel a bit happier now! Have done all my exercises, including the new ones for my knee.
Nothing planned for tomorrow apart from ironing the washing I did today.
Have a good evening everyone.

soop Thu 10-Oct-24 22:26:48

Just a wee update. Yes, Baggs, the same specs! Anyway, Mr Soop happened across them late last night. He peered into the magazine rack and there, nestling between the road atlas and other brochures he spied ... the specs. I had been doing a spot of unnecessary dusting in the corner housing the rack and my specs must have slipped in. Naturally I am delighted.

I am about to go to my bed. Tonight I shall be able to read my P. D. James with ease.

This is goodnight, sleep tight to all you lovely lot. smile

Jaxjacky Thu 10-Oct-24 23:07:07

Up way past my bedtime, we tried another local quiz and ate there beforehand, it was hard (quiz, not the food🙂) but enjoyable. We missed the aurora because of street lighting, then cloud when home.
A good find soop I’d be useless without mine, frozen to the spot.
I hope your knee improves Redcar, your granddaughter feels better soon brook and there are minimal reactions from any jabs.
A Good Night all, especially Yia * NannyG4* and Doodle.

brook2704 Fri 11-Oct-24 16:54:02

Good afternoon kitchen pals, I’m just home after a long lunch with my pal, I really enjoyed it but probably shouldn’t have had two extra large glasses of wine !
Not feeling up to doing much now so I’m going to sit in the quiet corner of the kitchen for a while ❤️

Grandmabatty Fri 11-Oct-24 18:54:08

Evening Kitcheners. Soop I'm so glad you found your specs. BrookI cannot drink alcohol during the day at all because I fall asleep. It sounds like you had a good time.
Dd popped in with dgs2 after playgroup. However initially it wasn't a success. I had run out of soup and he had a massive meltdown. Poor wee man was looking forward to a plate and his grandma let him down. Nothing would console him at first at all. He did eventually get over it but he was not happy.
So far one package has arrived. An autumn duvet cover. The Christmas present for dgs1 is apparently on its way. I'm still being quite lazy and had a breakfast for dinner. Hash brown, bacon, fried bread, egg and tomato. It was helping to clear the fridge, honestly. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Fri 11-Oct-24 19:06:52

I recall your last plentiful wine encounter brook 🤣🤣better news on your parcels Grandmabatty and a delicious dinner choice, I haven’t had fried bread for years.
I join you tonight with happy news, if I had a tail I’d be wagging it, our lovely local is reopening, not sure when yet, but the new tenant has a proven record and a number of other establishments.
MrJ is on his signature sausages, mash and beans for dinner, I have a glass of white, as is my wont on a Friday 🥂 all, your health.

Grandmabatty Fri 11-Oct-24 19:23:12

That certainly is good news Jaxjacky. Second parcel also arrived. All is well in Batty Towers

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 11-Oct-24 20:15:42

Hello kitchen people. I’m currently in Avignon. We were supposed to board the boat in Lyon but dreadful storms had caused the locks to be closed temporarily. Therefore we had a 3-hour coach trip to Avignon! Things should be back to normal tomorrow and we will visit Lyon later in the week.

I love fried bread! Sadly, since I had my gall bladder removed in 2015 I can’t eat it, I tried once and was quite unwellsad

Have a good evening.

Jaxjacky Fri 11-Oct-24 20:26:12

Gosh llfl that’s a long diversion, I hope tomorrow you’re back on track in lovely Françe.

brook2704 Fri 11-Oct-24 20:29:22

Thank you for reminding me Jax 🤣 I’ve been nowhere near as badly behaved as last time though 😇 Brilliant news about your local reopening, hope it’s soon
Oh my goodness grandmabatty I’ve some of your famous soup here in the fridge - if only I could have whizzed it down to you in time, poor wee boy there’s nothing like grandmas soup is there!
Enjoy your hols llfl wherever you are!
DH had his usual egg and chips, he always has that when he’s eating by himself, I had a strong coffee and a satsuma 🤣
