Confirmed bachelors usually marry when their sexual and pulling powers are beginning to wane. eg Warren Beatty - and George Clooney

Obviously not in the case of George Clooney, his wife is both gorgeous and highly intelligent

In this case and probably others, the art, and a womaniser is very knowledgeable in the art, is to pull a high class permanent partner when you are just on the cusp of starting to lose your pulling power.

well they have plenty of time to themselves whilst the rest of us are working to pay for them all to have affairs/get divorced/do whatever the f&ck they like. It is all eye wateringly vulgar in 2024 when people are queuing up for food and vulnerable people cannot access the help they need

Syracute Sun 06-Oct-24 15:05:22

Why read newspapers that write this . They are lies that prey to the vulnerable. Keep to the newspapers that don’t print malicious gossip.

I think some people don't realise that many people make a living from YouTube channels. They may have 5 or 6 channels that regurgitate the same 'news' (so you will see the same rubbish on more than one channel) and get paid by the number of people who click on their videos. Hence, clickbait. It's big money, which is why their news is so sensational.

... I think he might still have had some pulling power left, too, in spite of his age, but that's of course a subjective opinion.

I only gain information from what I read in the media so know nothing about his relationship with Amal, but at a guess would think he and she are on the same wave-length politically, and as they are both activists, and she's rather lovely, it was a marriage waiting to happen. I wasn't at all surprised that this confirmed bachelor decided to tie the knot.

Perhaps it helps that George is as gorgeous as ever no matter his powers. No idea to his 'powers' (whatever that means) apart from in films.

A while back now there was some muck-raking about George Clooney and his then wife-to-be, Amal.

The usual tabloid circus around a celebrity - lots of photo's of the couple together, but pretty harmless stuff basically.

However, I started to read the readers' comments and was shocked at the speculation and rumour-mongering. It was suggested by one reader that Amal was, in fact, a man disguised as a woman because - wait for it - Clooney as a declared bachelor would never marry as he was a closet gay, so Amal had to be a man, right?

There was a particular photo' of her leaving her house in a loose-fitting trouser suit and, if you looked carefully, you could - apparently - see the 'bulge'... "OMG, you are so right" declared another reader... "she defo is a man, who do they think they are kidding?". Amal was, allegedly, wearing the loose-fitting trouser suit in order to conceal that she was a he...

I suspect these two readers also believed similar, later, rumours that their twins were born via a surrogate mother.

I wanted to comment and point out that in fact it's not unusual for confirmed bachelors to marry when they find the 'right' woman, and that Clooney and Amal had a lot of interests in common - but I suspect it would've elicited a scornful response along the lines of me being "deluded", or not wanting to face the "truth" - so I didn't bother.

I loathe and detest this kind of gossip; "did you hear that ...", or "did you notice that..." etc, whether it's about my NDN, celebrities or the RF.

I'm neither stupid nor deluded - I know that human relationships can be complex and tangled. But starting a rumour with no evidence other than hear-say, or, in the case of Clooney and Amal, "look-see", is just ignorant, spiteful and evil.

Spiteful nonsense

There was a woman around post Russian Revolution who swore she was Anastasia, somehow she'd survived, many believed her until DNA came along and put paid to that. Clearly the Tsar and his family all perished.

Franziska Schanzkowska aka Anna Anderson; she was believed by many, including exiled Russian monarchists and the DNA test was posthumous as she died in 1984.
They tested her remains and took a DNA test from Prince Philip for comparison. They did not match.

Don't forget the guy in Australia who claims to be Charles and Camilla's love child from long ago. He says he was smuggled out and given to another family. Meanwhile his adoptive mother swears that DNA tests have proved he is her own child. I'm not sure who is dafter, the man himself or the people who believe his claims.

This reminds me of how there was much speculation that Madeleine McCann’s parents were somehow involved in her disappearance.

That of courses was different as, for a while, the Portuguese police were convinced they were somehow involved.

This gossip about William and Catherine though is surely just spiteful tittle-tattle.

Not the DM.

They may have divorced in the mid 70 s, I don’t know as I am not overly interested in the royal family, but this was all going on in the late 60 s when most of us didn’t know.
As for Margaret drinking and smoking, dancing too, my goodness,, doesn’t mean a divorce is on the cards.

It's alarming that on YouTube sometimes they put out that celebrities etc have tragically died when they haven't. Sounds definitely like fake news to me.

Just click- bait, so annoying!

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-24 18:55:14

Margaret and and Snowden divorced in the mid seventies, there were many photographs of her before her marriage, smoking in public, dancing etc, so the divorce was no surprise

escaped Sat 05-Oct-24 18:54:24

I agree with silverlining. That people in mainland Europe are less sensitive when it comes to talking about all aspects of royal life. Not just the British royals, although they do feature heavily in foreign papers and magazines. Europeans don't shy away from asking questions, seeking out stories, and consequently making their own assumptions.

silverlining48 Sat 05-Oct-24 18:38:57

Adultery and divorce certainly were a scandal in the 60 s with P.Margaret and Armstrong jones.
With Charles it was more of a shock, to me at least.
My point was people in Europe knew a lot more than we did.

It was H who told the world that he unlike other male members of his family married for love
