Well, I am sorry to say that I am beyond words reading that. I have just lost a beloved daughter in law aged 55. Grieving for a flipping mug does not make sense to me, get a grip woman.

I am sorry for your loss, truly I am, as I know how hard it can be.
That said, if you still feel up to coming on here, in spite of your grief, you must be prepared that some posts will upset you, and if you can’t cope with that, you perhaps should have a break from it for a while.
Do you not realise that what you said will have spoilt the post for the poster and probably everyone else? You cannot/should not take your personal problems or grief out on the rest of us.

Farewell one of my earrings!
I've had them 30+ years but reached up to my ear this morning to find one gone.
Been around the house but no sign.

Esmay I considered a mosaic too but remembered how much I loved finding pieces of old china/buttons etc in the soil.
Small joys for a future generation I felt.

I have a broken pottery ox which will be buried one day. It can't be mended but does hold significance here.
It was given my husband by my son-in-law when he married our daughter. My husband had jokingly asked (at their engagement) what he proposed to offer as "bride price" and my son in law said maybe 50 oxen?

This was one of them - handed over as part of his wedding speech. All different- one glass, a family group of china ones, two carved, one metal, one plastic an old lithograph another a painting... and a photo with a group on - all counted.

Happy day.

What a lot of thought must have gone into that! It sounds like you have a lovely son-in-law with a great sense of humour!

OK, OK. She’s coming back out of the bin!! 😂

I don’t think I’m anywhere near clever enough for a mosaic mirror frame and having already declutterred I’d have to start selecting a few unfortunate old faithfuls to smash!

I’ve tried the plant pot holder idea before which works for a while but the plants soon romp away so it’ll have to be a slow growing succulent. I have one in mind! If it doesn’t work she can sit on a bookshelf in my spare room and eventually get filled up with drawing pins, paper clips and other bits and bobs!

This is why I have a nice hard kitchen floor, nothing survives a fall. Having downsized recently I've still got enough china to happily throw away a mug! Don't let the sentimentalists on here persuade you to keep it.

If the loss of a favourite mug has made someone sad, I don’t think being told to ‘get a grip’ is going to help, TBH.

I do like a nice mug for my tea, I have to say. I’m sorry your mug has to be ‘retired’ (to put it tactfully). I have old mugs all over the house full of pens/pencils - a habit I picked up from my mum and dad! Unlike them, I don’t keep pens that don’t work properly in retired mugs!

I have special mugs for different times of the day, my favourite morning tea mug is getting faded through countless dishwasher cycles, but she is pretty and a comfort for my first cuppa.

My daughter in law made it for me after we downsized and had to get rid of lots of china.
I know that feeling DanniRae. My favourite owl mug has been passed to another by well meaning family, I have to grit my teeth 😂

I have a favourite mug and I dislike it when a visiting member of my family offers to make tea and hands MY MUG to someone else!

merlotgran alas the demise of your old drinking companion. It has seen you through the good and bad times in your life and held a variety of your favourite tipple. 😞.

Alas I have had many favourite mugs over the years unfortunately they never last long as I drop them and they get smashed but why is it they are always clean . Perhaps they choose to leave in all there glory😁
