Marie Curie has published a top ten list of the songs people listen to in their last moments. Is yours among them? Can't say I'd want my last moments to be listening to any of them, but each to their own...

Not a single song, but the Elton John album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It’s also my DH and my best friend’s favourite, so I’d want them both there to listen to it with me.

Can’t decide between Fields of Gold - the Eva Cassidy version
Songbird - Christine McVie
The End of the Line - Traveling Wilburys

I would probably choose The Lark Ascending and my DH would choose Joe Walsh singing Life's Been Good To Me So Far.

I didn’t recognise most of them…
I’d choose either “Dido’s Lament” or Handel’s “Immortal Light of Love divine”.

How would you know you are about to die to beable to have music put on ? The deaths I have witnessed one minute alive next dead.

I had thought to come in to The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, and depart to Chris Barber’s Jubilee Stomp. But I have changed my mind about that sort of funeral. I shall be on my own in peace and silence

Welcome to my world by Jim Reeves. Knowing that others who have passed will be there waiting for me to join them.

Tie your mother down by Queen.
Queen have been a big part of our family life, DH was carried into the Chapel to Freddie Mercury singing My Melancholy Blues.

Tuaim Thu 10-Oct-24 08:36:37

It would have to be Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

Witzend Thu 10-Oct-24 09:48:14

None of those!
I’m tempted to say ‘Don’t stop me now!’ (Queen) but if dh were with me, it’d probably have to be ‘You are the wind beneath my wings’.
Or an evening hymn I’ve always loved, despite no longer being a believer - ‘The day thou gavest Lord has ended…’

Just before my son died I played some music for him and as Three Little Birds by Bob Marley came on he died so sad but true! That is what I would like please.

Indigo8 Thu 10-Oct-24 10:14:17

Fartoooldthanks

I read somewhere that Peter Sellers hated "In the Mood" by The Glenn Miller Orchestra so much that he asked for it to be played at his funeral.confused

I'd like a variety of music starting from Chas and Dave and Queen, and ending with something from the Classics including Claude Debussy

Georgesgran

I’ve got Time in a Bottle and San Francisco (flowers in your hair) down for mine.
My dear friend had I’ve had the Time of my Life from Dirty Dancing.
Thunderstruck, AC/DC? Now that’s class!

I’d like San Francisco too.

Mollygo Thu 10-Oct-24 10:54:49

If it’s for me to listen to I’d like this version of Do not stand at my grave and weep.
m.youtube.com/watch?v=1GTUQvniOp4
and
You Raise Me Up- the Westlife version.
I’d quite like those at my funeral too, together with Eva Cassidy singing Fields of Gold.

SillyNanny321 Thu 10-Oct-24 12:53:06

Told my son if he does not play my favourite Status Quo track, Dont Waste My Time & end with the Doors When The Musics Over I'll come back & haunt him!

GrammaH Thu 10-Oct-24 12:56:57

Don't fancy any on the lust but as I'm not sure where I'm going, I'll go " Into the mystic " with Van Morrison. He's my favourite singer/songwriter and I find this song very soothing and very poignant.

icanhandthemback Thu 10-Oct-24 13:01:25

Good Lord, none of those. The Warsaw Concerto or Avenged Sevenfold is far more my style!

heavenlyheath Thu 10-Oct-24 13:15:33

heavenlyheath Thu 10-Oct-24 13:19:18

Eddieslass Thu 10-Oct-24 13:19:19

The final music played at our friend’s crematorium service was Bring Me Sunshine which made everyone smile. I was rather taken aback though when I heard one elderly gent exclaim What do you think of it so far?!
