A bit of a funny one, DD is going on a first date. She's mid 20s he's 30 and he wants to go somewhere dog friendly so he can bring his dog! She's not sure if this is a bit odd

MissAdventure Wed 16-Oct-24 19:52:41

Ah! I hope they all get on well. smile
Will you be allowed to tell us how it goes?

BlueBelle Wed 16-Oct-24 20:00:24

Well that sounds ok if they re both on a dog walk and not a date

So this is the update. She's decided against the pub date, so she's taking her dog and meeting him and his dog for a walk on Sunday

😀

Great. Hope the dogs get on! That is most important.

The correct name is an XL Bully not a Bully XL and an American Bully is a separate breed.

JamesandJon33 Wed 16-Oct-24 20:09:19

No dogs, cats, or mothers.

The correct name is an XL Bully not a Bully XL and an American Bully is a separate breed.

The American Bully XL is a variant of the American Bully breed that is typically larger and more muscular.

Whatever - both nasty.

At least he isn't going to turn up with the dog without mentioning it beforehand.

Nothing odd about it. If I was in that situation I’d need to know how they reacted with my dog first and foremost.

BlueBelle Wed 16-Oct-24 22:06:34

What if you’re a cat owner are you going to take that on a first date ? 🤣🤣

Well, if a man appeared with a cat in a baby carrier or on a lead, that would be the first and last date for me. 🐱

BlueBelle Wed 16-Oct-24 22:21:51

🤣🤣🤣 what’s the difference ?

🤣🤣🤣 what’s the difference ?

Well, a dog is man's best friend but a cat?
🤔

Back on topic,I recall when I really wanted to have a meeting with some one I fancied for a long time.
We agreed to go to a pub,at the same time a third unknown single party arrived and both of us did not know.
The third party muscled in our conversations,we all enjoyed the three some company, and the third party and us parted our ways.
When we met up again a few days later,we could not speak two words to one another and we went our separate ways.

It's very odd. Dogs can be very distracting and smelly.

David49 Thu 17-Oct-24 07:50:34

With the current dog obsession I’m not surprised, everyone seems to have a dog or 2 or 3, except us.
As for a first date the young lady would soon find out who comes first her or the dog, my guess is it would be the dog.

BlueBelle Thu 17-Oct-24 07:54:25

My guess it would be the dog too david There is a real obsession isn’t there? people can’t walk anywhere without them now

We had a packet of ‘dog nappies’ come in the charity shop yesterday I bet they’ll sell too !!!

Delila

I think that sounds like a good start, possibly a reassuring gesture?

Hear, hear Delila ! He is obviously a caring -type. The way people treat their animals is generally a reflection on their true nature.
I would be pleased that my DD had caught the eye of such a man. I can't understand why so many posters consider it odd or weird. 🤔

Hope she has a nice walk.

I love dogs, sounds like a good date to me.

A very sensible change

Ilovedogs22 Thu 17-Oct-24 15:22:09

This sounds like heaven to me too!
Nothing better than a lovely dog walk, unless you get chased by a massive pit bull as I & my poor old dog did the other day. Thank goodness for my manly (Sometimes) husband who stepped in & grappled with it. 😬

Luckygirl3

This is very very odd indeed.

I couldn’t agree more! Odd indeed.

I took my dog to training classes when I was young (15) and that was where I met my wonderful husband. His mother (who ran the club instructed the poor chap to walk me home and he did. I fell in love on the spot. I remember telling my parents I had found the love of my life, and being told not to be stupid! He was 21 and due to my young age and the fact he was engaged, nothing came of it. However, when I was walking my dog one evening three years later, by which time I was 18, he spotted me from his car and stopped to talk. His told me his engagement had ended a year previously. We went out that night and were inseparable for 55 wonderful years until he died at the age of 81. I adored him. We were forever grateful to my little dog who was unintentionally responsible for it all!

I suppose my story wasn’t really relevant to the original post, but I should have said that, although the dog was so important to us, he never went on proper dates. We took him for walks together a lot though. It was the least we could to thank him!
