The beloved spaniel has just walked mucky paws all over my bed, changed bed, hurled bedding into washing machine, sat with mug of soup, can hear the machine working away, and thought how absolutely wonderful a washing machine is. What’s your favourite thing in your home, obvs other than family!

My computer. I have several forums as well as this one, and I can talk to people whenever I want. Also I have access to answers to my queries via Google without having to go to a library and searching by myself

Spray bottles. They make cleaning so easy, distributing stuff without getting anything too wet.

I have saved them in the past and haven't bought a plastic bottle for years now. Just refill them with a home made concoction depending on what needs cleaning, wipe and voilà!

I agree that my washing machine is invaluable. It was such hard work, firstly washing by hand, then with my twin tub (remember those?). I can recall watching it rotate in wonderment, saving me precious time to spend with my children. The dishwasher is a close second.

My new heat pump dryer! Love the fact I can relax, knowing it’s not eating the electricity 😊

My robot mower - it saves me loads of time and effort over the summer and the lawn looks wonderful.

Washing machine and fridge. In Summer you couldn’t live without a fridge here.

My central heating boiler. Having lived much of my life without central heating I am always glad on freezing days to hear it click on.

My washing machine

crazyH Tue 29-Oct-24 09:43:33

Oh …..And my iphone

henetha Tue 29-Oct-24 09:47:23

My washing machine, because for many many years I didn't have one and always washed by hand.
And again, my central heating because I didn't have any until the last five years.
I've got a cooking thing called a halogen pot, and it's amazingly useful.

Washing machine and dishwasher ❤️

I forgot to mention the microwave.

I use mine every day, for food preparation, cooking, heating, defrosting and more. It is a multifunction one, but even without the oven/grill/airfry facilities I would use the microwave function most days.

My books, my music & my tea mug & kettle! Sorted!!

Washing machine, tumble fryer, dishwasher, computer, coffee maker.

No microwave, air fryer, soup maker, immersion blender, or gadgets.

Dirty muddy dogs - still beloved.

Mojack26 Tue 29-Oct-24 12:01:17

Gadgets...air fryer, dishwasher, slow cooker

cc Tue 29-Oct-24 12:11:50

It's amazing how so many of us have mentioned our airfryers. Four years ago hardly anybody had even heard of them!

polly123 Tue 29-Oct-24 12:51:51

My PC without which I couldn't run a small business, google information. Manage fine without a dishwasher.

knspol Tue 29-Oct-24 13:02:01

I'd hate to be without the washing machine but probably value the tumble dryer more. I could with difficulty wash things by hand but having wt clothes hanging around everywhere would drive me mad. I'd also hate to be without the TV as it's company on an evening even if I'm not particularly watching it.

HeavenLeigh Tue 29-Oct-24 13:09:59

Washing machine number one and most probably my shark vacuum cleaner and my bed lol

Marthjolly1 Tue 29-Oct-24 13:19:55

My sewing machine. It's my friend. I can turn to it anytime I'm bored or feeling lonely. It keeps my mind busy and the great sense of achievement I feel when something turns out perfectly is wonderful. There is always a project on the go and I learn so much from it.

Cateq Tue 29-Oct-24 13:46:39

My tumble dryer, especially in winter as it’s to damp to hang the washing out and can’t have damp clothing hanging on airers as it causes problems with my breathing. Had a dishwasher for years when kids were small, but now it’s just the two of us got rid of it.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 29-Oct-24 14:01:06

My vote is for the washing machine too, as I clearly remember the twin tubs and the outdoor wringer, and damp washing all week in the kitchen from November to May in the west of Scotland.

The runner up is my vacuum cleaner.

TeamMorgan Tue 29-Oct-24 14:28:43

Not an appliance, but every time I put away a stack of dishes in the cupboard I marvel in gratitude about the strong screws that hold the cupboard to the wall. So many dishes, bowls, cups in the cupboard (heavy!) and it holds them all safely, year in-year out!

Doodledog Tue 29-Oct-24 15:09:31

The more items people are listing, the more I realise that giving any of them up would be difficult.

I try not to use my oven now there are just two of us. I still cook a lot from scratch, but where possible I use the air fryer and the microwave instead of heating up a large oven. Five years ago the oven would have been at the top of my 'to keep' list.

The vacuum cleaner (light and cordless) is useful, but again, less so than in the past, as most of downstairs has hard flooring now, and I could manage with a corded one left upstairs if I had to.

Times change, don't they?
