The beloved spaniel has just walked mucky paws all over my bed, changed bed, hurled bedding into washing machine, sat with mug of soup, can hear the machine working away, and thought how absolutely wonderful a washing machine is. What’s your favourite thing in your home, obvs other than family!

My soup maker

The dishwasher. I have just made 5lb of mince into chilli for the freezer. Can't imagine what the kitchen would look like if I couldn't hide the pots, pans etc in there.

I could take the washing to the laundrette!

Dishwasher as well.
Thankfully, DH was of the same persuasion as me when we got married.
Neither of us can abide washing dishes.

I didnt realise it has rubbed off on a son as well. He rents. Him and his wife wont rent somewhere that doesnt have a dishawasher.

I completely agree with the OP - it’s the washing machine. I can well remember Monday being washday all day long. I remember standing in the yard for hours feeding sheets through the mangle trying not to get your fingers nipped in the rollers, and then the smell of damp washing hanging on the wooden airer hoisted up on the kitchen.
We thought we were the bees knees when we got a twin tub !
Whoever invented the washing machine should be made a saint !

Ooh no! not the launderette, unless it was collected and returned all ironed and ready to go. I can and do cope without a dishwasher very well.
Quite fond of the vacuum too.it makes such a difference when the rest of the house is going to hell in a handcart.

After that, the washing machine.

Dishwasher followed closely by washing machine.
I'd gladly give away
my tv and iron

Allira Mon 28-Oct-24 16:05:32

I agree, the washing machine.
Especially when there were six of us to wash for.

My first one was a twin tub which needed far more attention but better than a dolly tub.

I could manage without a dishwasher, but would hate to have to hand wash sheets and towels, or jeans come to that. I hand wash hand knits though.

After that, probably the Magimix. I use it a lot and it saves so much time chopping and slicing.

Washing machine, followed closely by the dishwasher.
I bought a dishwasher after singing abroad and said to my DH I preferred the sound of it rumbling away to any symphony I had heard😁

I first knew that my then boyfriend was serious about me when he bought me an automatic washing machine. Before that we'd had to spend Sunday afternoons in the launderette!
I'm pretty sure that my washer is my favourite thing, closely followed by my dishwasher and my air fryer.

My bed and my new Moorcroft lamp.

Allira Mon 28-Oct-24 16:30:01

I've always had a bed but I haven't always had a washing machine.

When we rented for a few months there was no washing machine so sheets, towels, jeans, went to the laundrette and I hand washed everything else for five of us; bought a spin drier so at least that was a help.

Def. the washing machine. At different times I’ve been without both dishwasher and washing machine when they’ve packed up/died of old age, and being minus washing machine was far more of a PITA.
I don’t like washing up, but it’s a lot easier than doing a load of washing by hand!

25Avalon Mon 28-Oct-24 16:47:54

Right now my dishwasher. I’ve been a week without one and old one wasn’t washing properly for several weeks so I had to re wash. New machine arrived Friday. Wonderful to have space on the worktops again.

grannydarkhair Mon 28-Oct-24 17:01:55

My books. Without them my home would merely be a house.

mrswoo Mon 28-Oct-24 17:02:26

At the moment it's my Hive thermostat I've only had it a short time and compared to what I had before it's an absolute joy! I'm sure the novelty will wear off but right now I love it and the fact that I can control it from my phone.

NotAGran55 Mon 28-Oct-24 19:03:10

Definitely the dishwasher. I would hate to wash up by hand these days. Terrible waste of water too.

Allira Mon 28-Oct-24 19:05:59

I think I needed a dishwasher years ago when I didn't have one 😀

shysal Tue 29-Oct-24 07:51:24

Definitely my washing machine. When I was a young mum of two I didn't have one and spent every morning boiling up my Baby Burco for the nappies and scrubbing everything else on the draining board. I had my first machine when the younger daughter was in nappies only at night, and they disintegrated when put in the machine!
My number two would be the air fryer.
