Come and live here- they are illegal! You can’t buy them and if you got hold of some from somewhere the cops would be round pretty quickly.

I haven't heard any yet, I was wondering if anyone is going to be wasting money on them this year.

One year a pub not far away had some in their garden going off constantly for an hour. They honestly were like bombs exploding. They have never done it since.
These large ones should be illegal or only sold for legal public displays.

It was horrendous last night. Flashes and bangs for hours. It was nothing to do with Bonfire night, it was Diwali.

We have heard a few bangs over the last couple of nights, I know at least one was a Diwali Celebration.

I imagine tonight there will be a lot more.

We have silent fireworks for the 5th here in the garden for GC.

(Having been part of the organising committee and a steward at the event for a local massive display including bonfire, fairground and refreshments, for over twenty years, the thought of going to an organised display fills me with dread)

The fireworks have been going off every night for over a week here in West Yorkshire. It also happens to be Diwali, so that may account for some of them.
Our present cat doesn't seem to be bothered by the loud bangs, but one of our dogs, many years ago, was absolutely terrified. She would shake with fear, and try to hide anywhere dark in the house. I used to sit with her and try to reassure her.
I enjoy the pretty lights, but not the bangs the go with them!

Is always like that near us and is nothing to do with Diwali, just people who obvs have more money than sense and presumably no pets.

I love the way the fireworks light up the dark skies at this time of year but the explosions must have rattled our windows.

Yeah, loud where I am too but mainly from Diwali parties.

Perhaps I am wrong and is Diwali but this weekend I imagine will be bonfire night fireworks as well and then for ages afterwards.
Am just hoping Diwali celebrants won’t join with bonfire night celebrants and keep the fireworks going ad nauseum.

Where do you life Nana8? I wish they were illegal in Scotland.

I've been saying for years that they should be completely banned from public sale and only available for organised public displays. Every year they cause untold misery to animals - domestic pets and wildlife alike - not to mention the distress suffered by some people with PTSD and conditions such as autism.

It's been pretty bad where I live. What doesn't help is there is a permanent firework shop in the town.

I am all for official, organised displays but hate fireworks being available to the public.

I believe Diwali was 31st of October. We have heard fireworks here all week, last night being the longest and loudest as I assume many people celebrated in Friday night as they had no work the next day. Fireworks were still going off well past midnight.

The bangs are terrible, I nearly jumped out of my skin last night carrying a hot cuppa, and just imagine if you have a small baby you are trying to soothe to sleep or are suffering from a nervous complaint.
The animals of course suffer the most, I think I was once told that horses have to be sedated or they could do themselves real harm.

We couldn't hear our TV! They've just started up again here.

Haven’t heard any here yet but it is the village fireworks display tonight. I don’t have any pets now but remember how terrified our cat used to be.

Never heard of horses being sedated, ours were left out in the field just in case a stray firework landed on the stables.

To be honest it’s balloons and those ridiculous lit lanterns that are far more hazardous.

I don't think so.

I don’t think is too drastic to pass laws on the use of fireworks, imho a person should have to apply and pay for a licence to buy very big booming fireworks, and there should be strict criteria for using them.
