Tattoos all over

If people have tattoos which they want to cover up temporarily, there is waterproof camouflage cream, I’m told.

A friend’s daughter works for Emirates airline and their staff are not allowed to work if they have a visible blemish on their face, let alone a tattoo.

The all over tattoos aren't my thing but, if you could hear the stories behind the tattoos, you might look at them differently. I always just hope people won't end up regretting such extensive tattooing.

I have one small, discreet tattoo, for the loss of a child. People are always surprised I have one.

I thought ear-piercing was for "older girls" until my teenage DD suffered a major setback in life and I treated her to ears pierced. It helped. She suffered a later setback at the age of 30 and a year later, as she recovered, she had a Phoenix tattooed on the side of her waist. It looks lovely.

Last year we went on a World Cruise and made friends with a single woman, in her early sixties, who was very artistic. She was covered in tattoos and all were tasteful and stunning - she looked (and was) fantastic.

Not for me, but each to their own.

My mother didn't approve of pierced ears, but I have mine pierced. I dislike tattoos but one of my daughters has some and they are neither discrete nor easily hidden. I'm not a fan of nose piercings but my other daughter has one and wears a teeny tiny diamond, she also has several ear piercings. My niece has a couple of tatts and a nose piercing.
I'm rather amused at the way these things are being linked to social class in such a snobby way. I'm a working class gal married into the upper middle class and would like to assure people if you went to the right school, mix in the right circles and are confident of your place in the world, anything (and I do mean, anything, goes, so stop worrying about something being "common" you'll be judged on the things you can't change! Me? They spot I'm working class with a couple of quick questions and tbh I couldn't care less, just do what makes you happy and if that means covering yourself in tats or having every bit of your body pierced, so what?

Tattoos have never bothered me. Most people I know have them, myself included and they are apart of them.
The nicest people I've met are covered in tattoos, the most judgemental go to church every Sunday.

You can be as judgy as you want about people with tattoos - that's your prerogative. Just as it is for others to be judgy about your judgemental attitude!

How much did it hurt? An interesting question. I gritted my teeth and couldn't wait for it to be finished - ie: it hurt a lot (I'm not very brave) BUT friends who've had bigger ones than mine done, claim it didn't hurt them at all...so, maybe my pain threshold isn't too good

Just so you know, all of your skin looks saggy when you get very old, not just tattooed bits.

Personally, I don’t like tattoos on anyone. But both my sons have tattoos on their arms. No trouble with employment. Both are at the top of their professions.

As TerriBull says, it's a divisive subject and I knew it would come up again (3rd/4th time for me) but this time there are far more antis than before.

Previously I've been called a slut on GN for saying I have four fairly small self designed tattoos that each mean a lot to me. You won't have to pearl clutch as they're all hidden by clothes. I'm in my 70's and none of them are wrinkly (which is a 'hate tattoos' favourite jab) and no, I don't regret having them done.

I think it's only a matter of time before someone takes their employer on, for discrimination.

One of my heavily tattooed nieces is a teacher and has to have them covered all the time. Long sleeves, thick black tights or trousers in summer.

Probably the days of having to cover them up are no longer seen as reasonable.

Personally I dislike all of them, if visible. And so presumably do some employers,
A young car -hire chap we dealt with in Cyprus told us he regretted the tattoos all over his forearms, because the bosses insisted that he must always wear a long sleeved shirt, including in the height of stinking hot summer.

What I do like are Māori tattoos, I think they are wonderful .
