Tattoos all over

You can't tell a person how they should feel. If people just don't like and are put off by other people's tattoos that's their opinion which they are entitled to. That's a risk that people who have tattoos knowingly take.

*Mollygo*, no-one is saying that! People are perfectly entitled to like or not like tattoos, just as others are perfectly entitled to get as many tattoos as they wish. What people are saying is that it's wrong to judge a person's character by the fact that they have tattoos.

It’s wrong to judge a person or their character by tattoos, how they dress, their haircut, their make up, how they talk, what they say, how many houses they have, where they go on holiday, etc. etc but they are judged by all or any of those things.
You have the right to have tattoos, but if an employer prefers not to employ someone because they don’t like the look of them, or they think it will deter customers then do they have no rights?

The would be employee made their choice.
The employer makes theirs.

What I really don't like is the earlobe expansion.

You can look through the hole and see what's going on behind the person's back. 😱

On us and our offspring, they're "discreet, quite pretty" and artistic.

Two of mine have tattooes, discreet and unseen by the general public 😀

Allsorts just a thought, could the spider and web have been Halloween Face art, and not tattoos.

Lots of our local shops have embraced Halloween season, including decorations, fancy dress and face painting

I think they are addictive for some. They also sometimes close off certain employment here. Where my daughter works ( not the one with tattoos) they have to cover them up ! A posh private school, presumably they don’t want the pupils to be ‘corrupted’. You gotta laugh..

A couple of my grandchildren and one of my daughters have Tatts. They are small tasteful ones and look ok. My daughter is an artist ,very unconventional and hers is under an arm so you can’t actually see it usually. I really don’t know why she bothered.Guess we are all different. My granddaughter has the names of her 3 children on her arms. I asked her if she thought she might forget them.

You sound just like my sister in law and husband. They hated tattoos for years and said they looked “common”.

As soon as their girls were old enough they got tattoos which their parents were not happy about but tried to justify it by calling them “small and tasteful”.

The girls then had their arms, legs, backs covered in very bright garish tattoos like Amy Winehouse. Cherries, sailors, hearts, birds, busty girls, cats etc. they look truly awful and very old fashioned now. The parents still hate them but try to be “cool” by asking “Have you seen X’s latest tatt?”

I’m not a fan of them on faces or skulls, but then I don’t like garish make up or jewellery. My son has a sleeve on one arm, my daughter a discreet Sanskrit saying on her upper arm.
They don’t put me off interacting with people though.

It's not something I've ever wanted to do. My father had several on each arm, done when he was a young soldier in India.
It included one with the name of his then fiancée, something he regretted when she dumped him for someone else!
I have a friend in her 70s who had a small posy of Forget me Nots tattooed on her wrist after the death of her husband.

I have toyed with the idea of having a tiny dark green gecko tattooed on the web skin between my thumb and forefinger. I have so many happy memories of family holidays in Ibiza. But it will hurt and I’m a devout coward.

Prejudice against people who don’t like to be met by a weirdly tattooed and pierced face must stop.
People have the right to add as many or as few tattoos as they wish, but they cannot demand that everyone should like it or than no one should be repulsed by the look.
In the beauty salon I have my nails done, several of the assistants have tattoos, but the one with the facial tattoos, didn’t last long. I didn’t ask why, but in the online booking system, she was the only one who always had free appointment spaces.

Exactly, MercuryQueen - some people are extremely judgmental. Yes, you are entitled to not like tattoos, but it is what is inside a person which matters. As someone else said on here, would you refuse treatment from someone covered in tattoos, for instance?

I always find it interesting how people can have such strong opinions about things someone else does with their body. It has zero impact on the observer- they’re not being asked to get a tattoo or to pay for it.

No, I don’t have any tattoos. But knowing how many Indigenous cultures have them as an important ceremonial thing, how facial tattoos were banned here in Canada for Indigenous people, etc, I have tremendous respect for those reclaiming their culture.

For the average non Indigenous person? You get one life, one body, enjoy it as you please, decorate as you choose.

I don’t understand the need to put others down for making choices about their own bodies.

I had my first tattoos done when I was 66 and have three on my lower arms. I think I’ll stop there! I did them when I got sober, as a testament to my new wonderful life. They’re beautiful and inspired by nature. The older women I know with tattoos are really interesting - free spirits with a story to tell.
I see tattoos as an art-form but they have to be tasteful and artistic.

Rachis gran, I said tattoos visible on face neck and hands. All my gc have discreet ones. Most of us wear clothes we feel good in, have hair done and wear make up, it makes us feel better about ourselves. Its how I feel, I would never hurt anyone's feelings by showing my feeling at visible tattoos. Obviously the people who have them on their face and hands like what they see but I do think it would damage their chance of getting certain jobs. Don't think getting rid of them is easy, costly too I would think.

I don’t have a problem with people having tattoos, it’s what’s inside people and not what’s on their skins that really matters. I would love a couple of small tattoos, probably cat silhouettes.

I have 2 small tattoos, one on my ankle and one on my foot. I had them done 20 years ago , when I was 40. I don't regret them , but wouldn't have any more. Both my daughters (31) have them . One daughters are small and discreet, my other daughter is covered, I don't really like them myself but it's her body.

It’s up to each individual person to decide whether to have a tattoo, or several, themselves. Personally, I don’t want one because of the connotations TerryBull mentioned. As a young girl I was aware that tattoos were only for a ‘certain’ type of person. Definitely male, and usually a builder, or other strong person doing a physical job. It was a big no for young girls, and even nicely brought up boys. Times have changed, and now everyone and his dog has a tattoo. My daughter is a doctor and has a couple, one very pretty one on her back, of roses, very delicate, and to my surprise, I liked it when I saw it. The other, her children’s initials on her wrist.
I’m not going to get one, I don’t think I’d look nice with one, but it’s up to each person to decide for themselves.

A couple of weeks ago a young girl mentioned on Nextdoor she could not find a job because she had her face (and arms) covered with tattoos. Heaven knows what she looks like. I have no idea how successful it is to get them removed and the cost must be horrendous.

I hate tattoos. Absolutely loath them on both sexes but especially on women.

I am completely bemused as to why any woman would want to spoil beautiful, clear, unblemished skin with these ugly things?
Also, they are permanent, aren’t they? How can any young person possibly know that they will still love these images in ten, twenty or thirty years time? Or even one year come to that.
They can’t can they ?

As others have said, they must surely be discriminated against in the job market, illegal or not.
I believe Charlie Mullins of Pimlico Plumbers has refused to employ anyone with a visible tattoo.

I personally do not like them but each to their own.

In the 50's when few women had a tattoo, if my mother saw one on a man she classed it as "common" but she also thought wearing white high heels was the same!

None of my friends have a tattoo but a niece does, a tiny one on an inner thigh. I saw little wrong with it but her mother had plenty to say!
