This is a light hearted thread. Light relief from some of the more serious, but necessary themes, I hope.

My animals, mostly cats, have had rather ordinary names like George, Jenny and Jinx. My DD called one of her rabbits Romeo but her hamsters were called Brian and Keith.

Neighbours had cats called Anthony and Cleopatra and the old man down the road had a Labrador called Darnley. We also knew of a pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels called
Buckingham and Rockingham or Bucky and Rocky to their friends.

We have five Labradors, Jet, Raven, Coal, Dexter and Skip. In the past we have had Ben, Joe, Monty, Chubby, Sam and Rossi who was named after the motor bike racer Valentino Rossi because he was so fast. I love some of the very imaginative names in the previous posts, we are obviously not so clever.

Two goldfish called Gill and Fin. A friend had a brace of Springers whom he called Callard and Bowser. Our last Goldie was called Tanc - we bred him - he tanked his way to the best bit of the milk bar, through barricades, through his siblings and anything else that was in his way.

Our two black & white rescue cats are Duffy Waldorf & Bosco Hogan. Duffy is named after a golfer & Bosco is an Irish actor. We've always kept a list of interesting names to use for cats. We had Pudsey Dawson & Edith Grindrod previously.

Back in the hippie days of the 1970's, my brother named his Manx cat Tocaine (a combination of toke and cocaine). We'd laugh hysterically when my oblivious mother would be outside calling him.

Later, I adopted the cat. I brought him to a shopping mall where a local radio station was having a cat-themed show and giving out small prizes in various categories. Tocaine won for most unusual name which led to an on-air interview but the discussion was focused on his breed. Once off-air I thanked the radio host for not requesting an explanation of the name; he said he knew better than to do that.

Tocaine lived for 18 years and was a truly wonderful and loving cat. Even people who disliked or were afraid of cats liked that cat.

When I was a child our cat had two kittens, which we named at birth, they were Tablet (tabby) and Monster (tortoiseshell) and the names stuck. My mum was forever embarrassed calling them in at night.

We called a rescue cat we acquired many years ago Lili Marlene because we discovered, entirely by chance, that if you whistled the tune, she would come running to you.

A later cat was called Lucy Fur - Lucy for short - because, as a kitten, she was such a little devil 😅.

I had a cat called Dulciana, an organ stop. A friend had her sister, called Claribel, also an organ stop. They both lived to be 19 years old. The cats had a cathedral connection, hence the names.

My son’s Bengal cat is called Chini, which is apparently Bengali for sugar.
