I had to google Esme Young, as I have never heard of her.

Esme Young is a legend! Fabulous, stylish & still punky. 😎

I was unsure of my English with the word "bear children" or "bore children" so I looked it up a bit and found this very funny rant:

"Another of the quirks of English is that women can bear bare children which they cannot bear and they can be bored by those they bore. Although they were bare while she bore them until they were born, they were then swaddled as she couldn’t bear to see what she had born bare: thus her bairns born bare soon bore the blankets of babyhood. Women bear babies who are born bare bar the fluid they floated in." 'grin

Yes, I hear your curiousity: A woman in England in the mid 1800s gave birth for the fifth time, to twins. Tragically, she died in childbirth. The girl twin was given to the grandparents. The boy twin was given to the neighbors. At 14 years old, the boy ran away, joined the military and fled to India. Later he was made a head Commisioner. During his time there, he met a young girl. The young girl had no father present and her mother died when she was only two years old. She was being raised by her grandparents. The runaway boy took the young girl into his responsibility and she beared two children. The runaway then left after six years and the young girl was destitute unable to provide for her babies. A missionary from Ireland found her and convinced her to let him take he children into the foothills of the Himalayas where he guaranteed them a British education. That's what happened.

Oops. I failed. I just read in your post that they must be living and my grandma is not living so skip that one. sorry.

I would like to meet Bluebell because she is so sweet
I would like to meet Whiff so that I could put my arms around her and give her a hug.
I would like to meet BigLouis to give her a high five.
I would like to meet Bill Gates, because I worked for him and I never got to see how weird he is outside of the workplace.
I would like to meet Elon Musk because I know he must be weird in real life.
I would like to meet with King Charles and walk through the gardens with him.
I don't need to meet Richard Branson because even though he is sweet, let's just say he is "one of a kind".

I would have liked to meet my beautiful Grandma, Razounuo because although she was a young forgotten mother, with her children taken away, she never knew how important she was to her lost extended family,

Too many famous people I would love to meet , David Attenborough is top of the list. Many lovely people here too but not into picking favourites, GN is an amazing site , so reassuring to know there are people who ' listen ' and care. GSM is a great loss, I have no idea what happened and although I never needed her sound advice I know lots of people benefited from her professional experience.

I would like to meet my mother. She died when I was 6 and I feel that I never knew her. After she died I wished for that for a long time.

That’s very poignant.

I couldn’t think of anyone I would like to meet when this thread started, but eventually it came to me (I’m very slow…) - Victoria Coren-Mitchell. I love Only Connect.

There are lots of GNs that I would like to meet, but number one would have to be Dickens. She so often says what I think but puts it better and more concisely.

Grantanow one has to draw the line somewhere. If you and they are still living there are possibilities

No one "famous" but I would of loved to meet my paternal GGrandparents. After talking about GGrandmother with an elderly relation a few years ago she seemed like quite a character. Raised 12 children in a small cottage in a Somerset village, including having twins at the age of 44!
From a newspaper report of their Golden wedding anniversary in 1933 my GGrandfather was given the day off work by the local squire, he was 74.

Oh Esme Young, Can I come tooAskAlice ?

Of course. I think Esme Young would have some great stories to tell and full of mischief!

She has. Esme was a speaker at a big WI event I went to and she had the place in stitches with her risqué stories. I managed a quick word with her afterwards and she has a mischievous twinkle in her eye. We spoke about the idea of reinstating needlework into the school curriculum. Lovely lady with an enormous, vividly coloured necklace which could have been seen from space.

Lucky you Sarnia.. Esme has such wonderful vitality and depth of knowledge... I would love to hear her stories..

Wonderful days.

😊

Just come to me who I would love to meet - it would have to be June Slater from YouTube! She’s not a celebrity, but a down to earth “Northern lass”, who talks common sense- very politically minded, doesn’t suffer fools 😊

Kate1949 Thu 14-Nov-24 22:12:03

*Mt61*. We weren't IN their dressing room. We were outside in the street. We suspected they were in there and a girl climbed up and broke a pane of glass shock blush We took turns peering in. We saw Ringo. Later George came to the broken window to chat to us. We didn't have tickets but a roadie left a side door open and we saw the show. I floated home. I have many tales to tell and frequently do so grin Mizuna Lucky you.

🤣 really - great days!

Can’t think of anyone famous I’d want to meet but would like to meet any Gransnetters.

I have been fortunate enough to meet several GN’s in real life and, without exception , all have been positive experiences. Indeed, when I lost my DH it was ladies I met on GN who offered support, friendship and understanding on a level that even some of my nearest and dearest weren’t able to match.

I’m eternally grateful for all of you , even those who probably wouldn’t see eye to eye with me on some things.😉

Why only the living? Abraham from Ur of the Chaldees might be interesting.
