I have just started this book by BJ. Its such an entertaining read, his sense of humour and intelligence shines through. He was a truly inspirational PM. If he had not been knifed in the back by his own party he would have led the Tories to another landslide victory.

But no doubt he will have the last laugh, coining in the royalties.

I don't think that the book has sold as well as anticipated. But he's fine. He got a massive advance from the publishers. Let's hope they've learned their lesson...

I sometimes wonder if the accusations of 'leftie envy' are an attempt to justify privilege, mixed with a smattering of guilt at having had so much when others have so little.

Not that I think Johnson has ever been acquainted with the feel of guilt..

Why does anyone need to justify privilege?

Why?

Because privilege means having more of the available resources than most other people along with an expectation of it enabling you to be a position of influence and power just because you have a greater share of the resources.

It's not 'envy' at all that is felt by those who feel that there should be a more equable distribution of power and resources. It's a sense of justice and a belief that all men and women are entitled to a decent life. And that power should be exercised for the good of all, not a privileged few.

Yes.

You are joking of course. proven liar.

Etoile2701 Thu 28-Nov-24 16:10:32

Honestly BevSec, I don't want to be rude, but are you for real or is this a wind up?

Etoile2701 Thu 28-Nov-24 16:12:15

Haha Jewelle, that is exactly what I was thinking!

NonGrannyMoll Thu 28-Nov-24 16:14:59

I doubt whether any of his wives and girlfriends have been saints. Women who pair up with men like him tend to be just as self-centred as the men, with equally thick skins. S'life, innit?

BevSec has always loved Johnson. Defended him throughout his lying, incompetent and and corrupt time as PM. She's being consistent...

He didn't succeed with Brexit because the Remainers could not accept the fact that they had lost the vote and were out to sabotage and get rid of Boris. Which they did.
He is a highly intelligent man and a very good author.
All politicians lie at times. Look at Starmer!

That simply isn’t true though is it? (Not that all politicians lie, I’m sure that they all have at some point)

Johnson stated VERY clearly we’d have “oven ready deals”, and the country would have so much more cash to spare.

We have no tangible deals and Ireland still a mess and it’s cost us more to leave than stay!

“ She certainly looks hatchet faced”. You sound charming!

I certainly am 🤣

you remind me sooooo much of BJ which of course would be a compliment to you, but certainly not meant as one!!!

Cossy Thu 28-Nov-24 17:17:24

why does anyone feel the need to justify privilege

Mmmm, how to answer this without coming across as rude……

BevSec

Like many other right leaning people the word choice comes up time and time again.

Mr & Mrs (or Mr/Mr, Mrs/Mrs, Ms/Ms) average, who actually make up a huge section of our communities simply don’t have choice in so many aspects of their lives.

They cannot choose to jump waiting lists to have their operations or mental health support, they cannot choose to take little Jonny out of his overcrowded under-resourced school and educate him privately, as a family they cannot escape a cold winter by flying across the world to warmer countries.

For many many people in our own country there is no choice!

Gosh! What vitriol on here… I always liked the man, but as I don’t live in the UK any more, I am probably not qualified to comment. I do know that all my family back in the UK admire him.

Anyone can comment, he was very popular as many saw him as entertaining and jolly, he is very well educated and well read.

However none of these attributes made him a good public figure, especially not a PM, he’s lazy, he lies, his public and personal life is chequered with cheating and betrayals. Not a man I respect or admire, but others feel differently to me and that’s absolutely fine. Each to their own smile

We dont, however, live in a communist society, in fact it has been shown to be a failed experiment. There will always be some who have more than others, although I do agree with you that all should have a decent standard of living.

So what would your solution be to make everyone equal?

Casdon Thu 28-Nov-24 17:40:31

I’ve read it. What grated on me was his seeming inability to take any responsibility for his actions, he constantly made excuses and blamed other people for everything that didn’t go well. Charity towards other people definitely isn’t one of his qualities, he never comes across as the bigger person in any situation.

I have only just started it but what I have read so far has been very good. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds and how he comes across.

I worry seriously when politicians such as Boris Johnson and Donald Trump are held up as good role models for the next generation.

Pam1969 Thu 28-Nov-24 18:37:41

There's a lot of bullying on here.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's been a free country for a long time.

All politicians lie. Starmer has been the worst, broken promises to every 'sector' from pensioners to farmers. A considerable mess.
