I want a robot!

So does it exist yet? A proper robot that will do/clean whatever you program it to do? And I don't mean a robot hoover - have one of those but I can't pick it up any more when it needs emptying.

Have had four different cleaners come now. Most were unreliable. The latest one is a bit better but still does what she wants rather than what I ask! So what I really want is a robot. Something like C3P0

Same here gentleshores definitely one with an ironing programme and bathroom cleaning smile

Cossy Thu 28-Nov-24 17:29:27

I’d love a robot !

Margiknot Thu 28-Nov-24 17:35:34

Ooh I could do with one that tidies away, puts the washing out ( and remembers to get it in) lifts the shopping out of the car boot and puts it away correctly and cleans the fridge out! Actually perhaps it could clean the kitchen cupboards out first. That’s in addition to the jobs ( ironing bathrooms floors) already mentioned! I watched the animated new film Wild Robot’ and wished I had such a useful model!

Yes please to a robot .
The day that you are born as a female is usually the day when your future as a domestic is inevitable

Yes please. I would like one which can dust and hoover.

Aveline Thu 28-Nov-24 21:25:16

Esmay!! Not invariably

I want a robot that cooks dinner then clears away and does the laundry. I would also like one that picks up after the GCs.

Ironing bathroom floors?! grin. I want one with a sense of humour as well ha ha.

Having read SF from an early age, notably in this case Asimov and Heinlein, I have been waiting all my life for these robots to be made. However, we are a long way on the way, with AI and all sorts of domestic machines.
Remember when washing was done by hand, drained with a mangle and dried wherever was possible? I have had a washing machine and tumble drier that do all that. All I have to do is put the clothes in, and take them out.
Robbie may not appear in my lifetime, but might well in that of my children.

I'll take Star Trek's Data and his daughter, Lal!

Macadia Fri 29-Nov-24 09:47:16

What everyone is describing is not a robot. It is a wife.

gentleshores Fri 29-Nov-24 14:43:58

Or a Mother :-) I miss my Mother - she would just know what to do. But when it's the wife who can't do things .......you need a robot!

Yes why can they do ai and digital things but not create a digitally programmed mechanical person to be a home help!

Apparently there is one. Honda's Asimo. I don't think it's available commercially though smile - and would probably be prohibitively expensive if it was. It's amazing though. No issue getting jar lids off!

Oh shame - it seems they discontinued production and none were ever sold. Apparently it had poor battery life.

gentleshores - I have a self-emptying robot vacuum now!
Go for it!

Pantglas2 Fri 29-Nov-24 17:26:28

We have two at PG Towers - a male and a female!

The male one tackles heavier internal and all external tasks like lawn/hedge cutting and the female is brilliant with cooking, washing and dusting.

The male has a stick vacuum attachment and merrily works his way around our living quarters as often as we like, even whistling softly, as if happy 🤣

The female memorises shopping lists, admin and financial tasks and at Christmas comes into her own, ordering and wrapping 🎁

Maintenance wise, we make sure they’re well oiled on a regular basis and although the male has had lots of replacement parts in the last two decades, we’re not inclined to replace him with a newer version as they no longer make the multi-purpose one which has served us well 😉

The female model is no trouble at all, never needed anything more than regular servicing and has all original components - we reckon the mould was broken on that limited edition 🤗

Pant you do make me laugh 😂

I’m blessed that my DH likes cooking!

He hates the sound of the hoover though and likes to have ‘stuff’ handy. Our house is old though with steps and different levels - so wouldn’t suit CP30…
Hoovering can wait must watch Wild Robot!

How about teaching the GC to pick things up? Make a game of it if they are toddlers - my godson was barely two when his mother and I started the game of "putting the toys to bed before dinner-time". It worked well,

Then as the children grow older you can teach them to cook by letting them help make simple dishes and to do other household tasks,

Housework i FUN when you are two - and stays fun if you were allowed to help at that age.

You can get one of those robot vacuums that empty themselves. However you eoukd still need yo empty something or someone would.

Really?! @NotSpaghetti and @MaggsMcG? Do you have a link? I can't imagine that when they're at floor level - do they stand up and walk to the bin ha ha?

gentleshores Sun 01-Dec-24 16:44:10

Found it - it looks great! And mops the floor as well. I want one - and it's black friday - only problem is I'm saving for a hoist for the car.

BlueBelle Sun 01-Dec-24 16:59:07

I d like one that would sit and talk to me

Celieanne86 Sun 01-Dec-24 18:39:12

All I want is a robot to make me tea and toast in a morning when my legs decide they’re not going to work today and my walking frame is decidedly unfriendly towards me. My carer doesn’t arrive until about 11 so I’m quite parched by then, I’m not asking much am I ?
