I needed to look up a photograph this afternoon. I scrolled for a while until I found it. I’m hardly surprised as I apparently have 5,592 pics on my iPad and 126 videos!

I’ve since created a few extra ‘albums’ to make searching easier in future.

How many have YOU got?

CanadianGran Thu 28-Nov-24 18:01:08

yikes. I just checked... over 10,000
I do have several albums set up, and it doesn't take me long to find something if I need to.

Once a month or so, I do try to delete unnecessary photos.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 28-Nov-24 18:01:39

9,724 including videos 🙀

Septimia Thu 28-Nov-24 18:27:58

Currently 7,827.

Ooh, I don’t feel so bad now!

Also because I was in ‘photos’ for ages, I found (for the first time)the ‘search’ option. (I know, I’m a Luddite!).

It’s quite handy - I typed in ‘tartan’ and ta-da! Found what I was looking for amongst the photos that were retrieved.

26000!
Dating from 1962. I digitised all of DH’s and my prints and slides, took years.

Greyduster Thu 28-Nov-24 20:20:25

Only 6,754 - on the iPad. On my laptop, who knows? Some of them go back years.

I have over 4000 photos and 360 videos on my iPad. Most are of DS, DD and my four grandchildren. I save them from Whatsapp and they automatically transfer to my iPad.
I also take photos of old photos.

Allira Thu 28-Nov-24 21:15:02

All those photos in boxes.
Boxes of slides.
Boxes of CDs full of photos
And now all those photos on devices.

It was so much simpler with a Brownie!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-Nov-24 08:19:53

Oh yes, I’ve taken photos of old photos too 4xGranny to share on line with my sister in Spain!

Are you aware of the carbon emissions caused by the storage of these photos?
They are on a par with airplane emissions. Just saying 🤷‍♀️

Patsy70 Fri 29-Nov-24 09:17:10

Only 3,945! I’ve got a lot of catching up to do! 😄

Jewelle Fri 29-Nov-24 09:23:14

18,982 photos and 1,375 videos. And all catalogued into different albums 😂

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-Nov-24 21:28:25

Not aware of carbon emissions petra. Would you explain it a bit if possible?

Grannybags Fri 29-Nov-24 23:16:39

28,688 items!! Far too many 😁

I add a caption on iPhone photos and can find them quite easily, using search.

Boxes and albums of photos as well goodness knows how many saved digitally. When DH was receiving palliative care I dug out some albums and reminisced looking at them. Both found the experience of being able to physically handle photos, touch them, much more emotional than scrolling on a hard glass surface.

I have no idea how to count them but my hard drive is over half full and it's a 2 terrabyte hard drive! (That's 2000 gigabytes - very large). One thing that concerns me is I'd like to have more hard copies of special ones. I did get a photo book printed from some once and keep meaning to get another one done but it takes quite a bit of organising and still haven't done it and now I have another 10 years worth of photos!

RustyBear Sun 01-Dec-24 11:56:00

31,875 photos and videos.
When I moved them to my new Mac computer nearly 3 years ago I had over 34,000, which I reduced to under 30,000 by getting rid of duplicates and things like old screenshots. It’s now back up to nearly 32,000, mostly due to the 1500 photos of my granddaughter!
I keep them in albums, and have put keywords on most of them, so they are easy to search for.

The explosion in data (photos et al) being produced is behind the push for new datacentres to be built, some on green belt/fields. These datacentres are ugly and consume large amounts of energy and water, so they are bad news for the environment. Data storage has become too cheap and the government needs to intervene for the sake of the environment.

Nearly 8000 on my phone - I deleted everything before April 2020 as my phone & IPad couldn’t cope. I’ve been making photobooks since 2009 & have albums going back to 1980. Had to weed some of them out when we downsized a few months ago.

Hey Petra, how does that work?

MaggsMcG Sun 01-Dec-24 14:32:05

Just get a photo flash drive and download them all on to it. Then you will only need to keep the ones you want on your phone itself. Or if you have Prime you can use their free photo store. However they do charge for large amounts of Video. You only get a small video storage for free.

gentleshores Sun 01-Dec-24 15:57:18

The trouble with external hard drives or flash drives is, you could lose everything. You need more than one back up just in case. Flash drives etc can fail very suddenly - it's happened to me - I did manage to recover most of the contents with special software, but not all of them.
