Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Hi all, oh soop what an encumbrance for you, 🤞 miracles can be worked.
Cheered today by small signs of bulbs waking up in the garden, the weeds are too though! It’s been a grey day, but up to 5, so an improvement.
No luck again in the meat draw, you’d think with nearly daughter in law running the pub we’d have a chance 😃 those two are out tonight to the company ‘do’, pub closed at 6, I slipped her a pack of paracetamol.
Brisket in the slow cooker, it’s been there for hours and smells lovely, red wine and fresh herbs.
Cheers to brook 🥂 hopefully in the warm.
And a different, gentle whispered hello to the comfort corner 🌹

soop that looks so uncomfortable, I do hope that something can be done to help you.
nannytopsy how was your walk? I haven’t been out for a walk since Wednesday afternoon, although I have been really tempted because it’s been so pretty out! I’m hoping that with the milder weather on the way, I’ll be able to get out regularly. Once my car has thawed out, I’ll try sitting in it to see how it feels!
I changed the bedclothes this morning & washed and dried them all. DSiL came over for a coffee and changed the battery in the door bell for me. DD2 and family called in after some shopping in a local outlet village.
Long chat with my friend in Kent, our weekly catch up.
Have a good evening everyone, hope tonight won’t be as cold as recently.

Hello kitchen people, and especially Soop. I pray that your doctors can do something for you.

Elder son and has family have just gone back to London. We had a lovely time with them. Our granddaughter (8) organised a drawing competition - last visit it was a poetry competition. We have to copy one of my many pictures and they are then judged. Granddaughter copied the picture which Soop did for me of Milo. She’s taken it back home so I can’t show it.

OH has gone to collect a small fridge from a free-cycle person in Oxford. He wants to convert it into a honey warmer/store.

I am full of food so won’t need much for dinner. Roast chicken and all the trimmings all gone plus a chocolate pudding and a variety of ice cream.

Have a good evening.

Yiayia4 Sun 12-Jan-25 15:15:57

That looks so uncomfortable Soop,I hope it can be sorted out and soon.
Another cold day here no sunshine today and quite misty.DH is doing most of the cooking for later, a good sign first time for ages.
Enjoy your evening all stay warm.

gillgran Sun 12-Jan-25 14:18:32

Oh my goodness, soop, your hernia is so much worse than we could have imagined.
I do hope something can be done for you, ( that was what last weeks appointment was about wasn't it.)
Sending my very warmest wishes. x

Usedtobeblonde Sun 12-Jan-25 13:42:12

Nanny T please be careful out there.
You can get your steps in when the snow and ice has gone and your joint is more settled.
I have to say joint as I can’t remember just what was replaced tchblush

Usedtobeblonde Sun 12-Jan-25 13:38:46

Oh dear soop that is one big hernia.
I think I posted some time ago about our friend who had one.
His wife said he looked like he was in the week of pregnancy.
He had had bowel cancer and medics said it was all too close to original surgery to do anything about it.
All he could wear were jogging bottoms which fitted underneath the large bump.
Sadly after over 50 years of very close friendship we lost touch when they moved into a nursing home.
I tried several times to get in touch but I think dementia had taken over and their family were not approachable or
the sort to get in touch even though they must have had our contact details and seen my cards and letters.

We both had a wonderful time at the party last night! We didn’t leave until 11pm. Fantastic joyful atmosphere, many laughs and it was great seeing so many old friends and ex-neighbours again!

We are going out in a couple of hours to pick up my stepfather. Sunday dinner is booked in at my favourite pub. I’m sure the log fire will be lit as usual on winter afternoons. It’s such a cosy pub and local - betwixt us and my stepfather’s - perfect.
I love my No Cook Sundays!

We took this pic last night ◀️ before the table we chose filled up! As you can see I decided to eschew Dry January. I’m having a ‘damp’ one instead - only drinking if we go out with others. (Good - my stepfather is with us today too hehe!). Have decided to do a ‘damp’ February as well. Actually probably much more sensible on the whole really. 😁

Oh soop.
They say a picture paints a thousand words.
I never imagined your hernia being so huge. The discomfort that you must put up with must be very distressing. I do hope your surgical team can offer you some kind of solution other than a truss?

soop Sun 12-Jan-25 12:53:47

Hello to all our special Kitcheners. Mr Soop took a photo of me wearing a nightie this morning. It shows the hernia reasonably well. Although he did say that it doesn't do it justice.

Not a bad day, weather-wise. The sea is calm. No sign of frost. Birds enjoying a banquet of nuts, seeds and fat balls.

Enjoy your day. smile

Nannytopsy Sun 12-Jan-25 11:54:48

Morning! It’s the most beautiful day with no sign of yesterday’s freezing fog. We shall shortly go for a short walk - the first!

NannyG4 Sun 12-Jan-25 11:40:54

Another southern softie here but today is absolutely beautiful, I would love to drive to the coast but wouldn’t risk the roads!

Brook …enjoy the sun of your face, but with plenty of sun cream!

Yiayia 💐🙏…thinking of you and your family.

Usedtobeblonde…I really enjoy Charlie Bighams ready meals, since I’ve been on my own I always like to have now and again, so easy and tasty, and there’s a nice selection for one serving.

Soop(s). Sending love to you both. Hope you’re both comfortable…..

I do apologise for not mentioning you all by name, my brain is fuddled. I wish one day I could wake up and feel less anxious and less alone….

Off into the quiet corner ,I’m sure I won’t be on my own ….

Fondest love to you all…….❤️🙏

Hello kitchen people. It’s so cold!

I’m sleeping in the spare room. Elder son and his family are here. It seems they had a wonderful skiing holiday over Christmas in France. They ended up in Paris for New Year.

Have a good evening everyone.

Yiayia4 Sat 11-Jan-25 21:41:01

UTBB Your not losing it.Very easy mistake it was my son’s wedding back in the Summer.

Redcar Sat 11-Jan-25 19:24:23

yia and jax I’m another southern softie! Very cold here all day, although lovely and sunny. -5 forecast again tonight!
Have a lovely warm break brook
Spent some time sorting out a lot of out of date over the counter painkillers etc, the cupboard is a lot emptier and tidier now. Lots more cupboards to do, most of them a lot bigger than that one. I’m hoping that DD2 will come tomorrow, she has said she’ll help me change the bedclothes. I’m not up to all the bending yet!
Enjoy the parties fgt and grannmarie.
Take care everyone and keep warm.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 11-Jan-25 19:04:55

So sorry that I wrongly crossed Yia with SueD for the wedding celebrations.
I knew I was losing it.
Anyway I hope a superduper day has been had by all.
My GD took me to buy wallpaper today.
The first outing for me since Christmas Day.
I can’t say I enjoyed it, it was icy on the pavements and parts of the road, roll on the thaw.
As I was eating on my own we called at Sainsbury’s and I bought a Charlie Bigham Fish pie which I have just eaten.
Enjoy your evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Sat 11-Jan-25 18:46:17

Hi all from the still chilly south, softy the same Yia!
A quiet Saturday, as usual, submerged in the paper, the crossword will do me for a few days.
I finished sorting my seed file, discarding very old or practically empty packets, ready to order a few more.
Enjoy partying FGT and Grannmarie . My son and fiancée are off tomorrow night to the pub company ‘do’ in Winchester, free bar, free food and an hotel room, sore head Monday!
I hope the wedding celebrations of SueD went well and your shoulder is less sore utbb.

Yiayia4 Sat 11-Jan-25 18:01:56

Have a great time in Spain Brook.
Can’t believe how cold it’s been here, we are softies down south and feel the cold.❄️DDIL is struggling, they are coming for dinner tomorrow so give her a break from cooking.
Just enjoying a nice full bodied red wine before dinner, steak tonight.

Enjoy your parties grannmarie and FGT.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jan-25 17:25:04

‘Evening All’.

It’s really cold out (Himself has just been to the bin store room along the decking). We are off out to an 80th birthday party in a club in a couple of hours and really looking forward to meeting up with old friends and neighbours. We’ve just eaten sausages with a fried egg on toast so that any of the buffet food we can consider an optional extra. 😂

Nannytopsy Sat 11-Jan-25 15:19:25

I wish it was 22C here! We have had hoar frost and freezing fog all day and it’s not likely to lift now. I’m sewing …

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jan-25 14:46:44

Happy holiday brook how lovely to be arriving in warmer climes. On of my friends in Málaga rang me yesterday afternoon. The wind has died down and it was 22°C yesterday!

Jaxjacky Sat 11-Jan-25 14:43:25

I’ve just finished his latest soop We Solve Murders, most enjoyable and a new group of characters.

soop Sat 11-Jan-25 14:33:04

Jax I love both the dress and the necklace. My favourite colour. I also prefer a garment with pockets.

Yia flowers

Thank you, dear Kitcheners, for several photographs taken during the cold snap.

We are enjoying a quiet day. A game of Scrabble has been promised. I'm about to order the fourth Richard Osman book relating to the four pensioners who meet at the 'Thursday Club'. Witty and amusing in equal measure.

Wishing you lovely lot the most relaxing of weekends. smile

brook2704 Sat 11-Jan-25 14:24:22

Thank you all for your kind comments, we’re on the train to Glasgow, looking at the gorgeous winter wonderland out there, the scenery is beautiful Jax. When we get to our hotel at the airport we’re going to start our holidays with a large glass of wine. It’s been a busy few months and we need to recharge our batteries and get some together time
Hoping your DGS has a great 18th birthday grannmarie, how lovely to have seen him grow up into a young man, I hope to be able to do the same with my DGC
Gentle hugs to all in the quiet corner, I hope the log burner is on and you’re cosy, warm and comfortable x
