Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

That’s really good news Yia I’m so pleased for you both
Hoping tomorrow’s appointments go well soop x

GrandmaC47 Tue 07-Jan-25 18:03:05

Excellent news YiaYia so pleased for you.
Safe travels and a good outcome Mr & Mrs Soop.

Thoughts are with those suffering from the flu bug. It’s vicious.

After DH’s shock diagnosis of a dvt on News Year’s Eve, today a call from the surgery told him one of the tests carried out shows he has a uti. He’s not a happy man!
Now I too will take refuge in the quiet corner.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 07-Jan-25 18:01:47

The very best news Yia I am so happy for you.
Snow here hasn’t thawed and if it freezes tonight it will belethal on the pavements.
I think I will stay indoors until about May.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-Jan-25 17:23:29

Yiayia4 that’s good news regarding your husband.

soops will keep everything crossed for both of your hospital appointments tomorrow.

(Hugs) to the poorly kitchen friends

Back from the first swimming lesson of the year for The Imp and 9yr old. Chilli con carne for dinner and an early night for me 🙋‍♀️

Grandmabatty Tue 07-Jan-25 17:17:48

Yiayia that is good news indeed. I'm very happy for you both. Grannmarie that sounds like a lovely time for you today. Your poor daughter though. Soop good luck tomorrow to you both.
Yesterday and today I have powered through housework. Both boys are now at school/nursery and I'm missing them. I know I will settle in to a new routine but I've looked after a small person (or two) for the last six years. Dgs2 has settled in well to nursery.
Tomorrow will be a quiet day for me. I will potter about the house, do some sewing and knitting and maybe start a painting. A day just for me. Chicken curry tonight. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

Grannmarie Tue 07-Jan-25 16:57:58

Brilliant news, YiaYia, I'm delighted for you and your DH.

Dear Soop, best wishes for you and your precious man for your safe travels and successful appointments tomorrow. Enjoy your lunch at Balloch, I think there is still some snow on the Ben.

UsedToBeBlonde, enjoy planning and furnishing your new sitting room, I hope it brings you much comfort and joy for years to come.

FGT, you have reminded me that I still have some shortbread left, I will enjoy some with lentil soup for lunch tomorrow. Soup and shortbread is a New Year treat!

Ladyleftfieldlover, may I borrow your lovely cleaner? I'm still taking down decorations and my house looks like it has been burgled....

This afternoon I met up with a dear friend, we had a wintry walk around our local Marian shrine, then lunch and a good catch up at the garden centre. On my way home I dropped off some shopping to DSIS2, she has the bug now. I can't believe I've avoided it so far, fingers crossed.🤞

Wishing everyone a peaceful Tuesday evening, TOYA. 🥰

Hello 👋 Neine, Hellogirl, Redcar and Charleygirl, glad to hear you're all on the mend!

Cornergran, NannyG4 and all in the Quiet Corner, rest and recharge your batteries, we are not far away.

Hello Kitcheners.quick update.
DH has had his colonoscopy and looks good,no more cancer. We are very happy and can cope with his other illnesses and treatment.
Hope all goes well tomorrow Mr and Mrs Soop.
Keep safe and warm everyone can’t believe we might get snow.

soop Tue 07-Jan-25 14:48:53

Hello to our lovely Kitcheners. Our hospital appointments are tomorrow. Thankfully, our roads are clear. The only sign of snow is that on the high mountains of Jura.

I send gentle hugs to all our Granspals who are taking refuge in the quiet corner. I spend more time there now that I know I am not alone. smile

Our friends who have kindly offered to help us to keep our appointments are to visit this afternoon. Two hospitals, a number of miles apart, Mr Soop in one furthest away. After the comings and goings, we will take our pals to an inn in Balloch for lunch.

Please keep warm. Do not risk icy pavements. You are very precious peoples. grin

Afternoon Lovely Ladies.

Just going to sit in the quiet corner, unfortunately I’m struggling with flu like symptoms and feeling pretty sorry for myself….hopefully turn a corner soon.
I hope all of you struggling with life’s struggles find some peace, sending you love and prayers. Much love x

Just about Good morning in Stockport.
It has snowed all night and after a slight thaw it is snowing again.
At least two inches but forecast to turn to rain.

At last I may be getting my decorating done next week.
I will keep my fingers crossed until he turns up with his ladders in his white overalls.
We haven’t actually met yet but have had several phone calls, I sent him a video of the room and all the measurements and he quoted me a price yesterday which I have accepted.
Assuming all goes well I shall get a flooring company in to quote for engineered wood flooring and if they can do the job in two weeks time I can have the sofa and armchair delivered the following week.
I can then take my time deciding what else I need/ would like.
It is many years since I furnished a room from scratch.

I hope the Soops journeys today are accomplished without problems and they receive satisfactory outcomes.

To the rest of you, stay warm and stay safe.

I was also unwell before Christmas but am much better now. Antibiotics did the trick,

I live in NW London, and it snowed overnight, but the roads are clear; it is only on roofs and cars. It is still bitterly cold—I am dressed like a navvy, and do I care? Not a lot.

cornergran Tue 07-Jan-25 07:42:28

Good wishes to all, I’ve retreated to the quiet corner for a while as I’m oh so exhausted all the time. Hopefully answers, energy and a clearer head soon. In the meantime be sure I’m thinking of you all x

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 06-Jan-25 22:51:26

Hello kitchen people,

I had a typical Monday. Shopping in Waitrose , dropping some things off at a charity shop and visiting a couple of friends. Our cleaner came so the house is sparkling.

I was really looking forward to a day school in Oxford this Saturday: British popular culture from 1950-2025. Unfortunately one of the speakers is unwell so they’ve had to cancel it. Hopefully the new date will be one I can do.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Jan-25 22:27:32

Can’t even get that right SueDonim 🤣

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Jan-25 22:23:29

Sorry SieD I had a frazzled head earlier..
Have a wonderful wedding week, May everything run smoothly with laughter and love x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 06-Jan-25 21:32:55

‘Evening All’.

I’ve just made a mug of Horlicks (Dry January) and opened a tin of shortbread ….
I’m binge watching ‘Traitors’ at the moment and loving it! A friend recommended it to me yesterday as I’d never come across it before and I’m now addicted.
Good job I don’t get stressed if housework isn’t done ….

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! I'm sorry to hear that so many have been unwell over the festive season, hope things are improving now. Best wishes to the Soops, Nannytopsy, YiaYia's DH and all with hospital appointments, hoping and praying that they are helpful.
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of two beloved cats, so sad for those who loved them. I still miss Granddog. 💙🐕
Great to hear that your whole family is gathering to celebrate the wedding, SueD, how uplifting for all involved. Have a wonderful time, many congratulations and blessings to the happy couple. 💕
Glad to hear that your Mum was in good spirits, Grandmabatty. Good luck with your new look childcare, put your feet up when the boys are at school/ nursery!
You are a great help to your DD, brook. Hope the DGC earn their money this week. 🤞
What a busy day, Jaxjacky. Enjoy your quiz!
I started taking decorations down today...it may take some time!
Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening, and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

brook2704 Mon 06-Jan-25 17:45:14

You’re welcome, Jax and redcar, it does look lovely but tricky underfoot
I’ll keep everything crossed for you Jax hope you at least get a light covering - good luck in the quiz tonight
Chicken stir fry for dinner tonight and a sit down in front of the TV 😴

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Jan-25 16:55:25

Beautiful brook that’s proper, thank you. Just grey skies today, a brief glimpse of sunshine, we’re on a weather warning for the next three days off and on, snow and ice, I’ll bet the met office a whole £1 we don’t get snow.
👋👋 hellogirl hope you’re recovering from your hospital trip, good to see you’re improving neine
Voluntary phone mad this morning, twelve calls, I asked a colleague to take over this afternoon so I could sort mine out.
Quiz tonight, its always offers some cheer after my voluntary Monday, however badly we do 🙂

Redcar Mon 06-Jan-25 16:35:42

Thank you brook, I’m another snow lover! I love looking at photos of snowy gardens!
Ours only lasted a few hours yesterday before it thawed in the rain.

brook2704 Mon 06-Jan-25 16:08:42

Picture for you Jax as I know you like the snow! ⛄️

brook2704 Mon 06-Jan-25 16:02:50

So sorry to hear about the cat Uttb, very sad for all the family
On a brighter note it’s good to hear about the wedding SueD, hoping all goes to plan and you can share a picture with us please!
Hoping you’re now feeling a bit better hellogirl thinking of you
It’s snowed all day here in Inverness, looks like a winter wonderland and it’s not melting as it’s been about 0° all day 🥶 The side roads are quite bad but the main roads just a bit slushy. We went out this morning to DD2s helping to pack away the Christmas decorations and doing a tidy up of the children’s bedrooms after Christmas. Apparently the DGC aren’t getting any pocket money from now on unless they’ve done their jobs but by the look of things this morning they’ll both be broke this week…
Good to hear you’re feeling better neine
Thinking of Kitchener’s in the quiet corner, sending gentle hugs ❤️

Usedtobeblonde Mon 06-Jan-25 14:16:01

How exciting is a wedding SueD
I hope it all goes brilliantly and the weather behaves for you.

Redcar Mon 06-Jan-25 13:22:03

neine good that you’re feeling better now.
utbb sorry to hear about your D’s cat, and also to hear about Billy hellogirl . I hope you’re feeling better after your hospital stay.
suedonim an exciting week for you, have a wonderful time with your family. Thank you for the cake and hot chocolate!
Stay warm and upright everyone!

Usedtobeblonde Mon 06-Jan-25 13:03:49

Hi Hellogirl it’s nice to see you posting.
I am so sorry you have been in hospital, I hope you are feeling better from whatever ailed you.
You have been through so much sadness in recent years and Christmas must have been an ordeal. Sorry also about Billy.
The house must be so empty without Lynne who was a constant companion to you.

I hope everyone is serving the weather, we had more snow in the night, everywhere was covered but as I slept late after another bad night it had all gone by the time I woke up.

I am not a happy bunny, Christmas is playing on my mind, it was so unsettling.
I have some tough decisions to make but don’t feel strong enough to tackle them.
However “ this too shall pass” and things will start to look brighter.

Some of you have health mountains to climb, I wish you well with them.
