....surprised when my grandson sent me a 'thank you' email for his birthday present, I nearly sent him one back thanking him for his thank-you.

I sent my three year old great-nephew an Easter egg last year and by return of post got an Easter card that he'd made at nursery.

My granddaughter who lives furthest away always write letters - not necessarily thank you notes, but just short on as saying she would like to see us again soon.

To set a good example, I wrote her a letter thanking her for the birthday present she had made me. She had bought me some chocolate and made some window decorations of transparent paper. I always write my letters for her on the computer so that it's easier for her to read. I included a photo of the window I had put her decorations in to show her they were appreciated and used.

I also enjoyed writing thank you letters of others who had given me gifts. The house had been so full that I had felt I didn't do them justice at the time.

Perish the thought, Pascal.

So is one of ours. Thankfully he failed his test a short while ago and has a bit of a wait for another.

but safer than motorbikes...

That's the modern way 🙂

DGS is saving for a car. One more worry to add to the list!

Wolfie is a great name

My grandchildren are with us on Christmas Day so thank us then.

However our charming little granddaughter takes photos of her and her sister playing with the gifts and sends them on WhatsApp which is lovely.

Our teenage grandson will always pose by the LEGO he's done and send us a WhatsApp.

We don't get any handwritten notes but quite happy with the way things are.

Yes, I think so. It's not uncommon now.

*Oreo*, sorry, I have only just seen this question. Yes, it's his real name.

Same as Princess Beatrice’s stepson isn’t it?

I used to find sending thank you notes an absolute chore when I was a child.

Of course I was grateful, but the sitting down and writing that I was, felt like a school lesson.

I liked doing it if I had new pretty writing paper 😃

Father Christmas always brought a stationer et so I could write all my thank you letters.

Even though I see the DGD and they say thank you in person, they still send a thank you card.
DGS will phone now to say thanks.

I have five grandchildren ages 23 , 21, 4, 3 and 18 months , all of them thank us for their birthday presents, my sons are the youngest grandchildren and they draw us a picture with thank you kisses and the 4 year old comes round and thanks us, my eldest grandchildren phone We see all of them on Christmas day so they thank us then for Christmas gifts and they all give me the best hugs .

Oh dear me, what a horrible child you were. People go to a lot of trouble to buy gifts and send money; I do I'm a pensioner on a fixed income. Everyone who receives a gift from me is far better off than I and they know it.

Ah, I liked the rubber stamp thingy, so I could play post offices.
I should have had one saying "thanks very much" and stamped that on my paper.

We sent out Advent Calendars (no chocolate) to 7 grandchildren and got 6 whatsapps. Wolfie is too young.

Is Wolfie his real name?

I'm very lucky that my daughter always encourages the GC to write thankyou notes, birthday cards, also Christmas cards and they add their names to my daughter's mother's day cards to me. These are so special. The GC are still in primary school, I'm sure they will understand the importance of this when they are older.

Furret Mon 02-Dec-24 16:11:52

How lovely 😊

Oldbat1 Mon 02-Dec-24 15:57:06

Weve only ever had one thank you acknowledgement. Dd does complain re having to collect parcels if we send - so ive stopped that. Now dd complains if we send actual cash - “no shops accept cash here”. How do these teenagers ever learn about actual money? Quite honestly the way I feel im not bothering to send them anything.

keepingquiet Mon 02-Dec-24 15:42:36

I don't give things with the expectation of a thankyou, but I usually see them Christmas and birthdays so they thankyou to my face. Sometimes I even get a hug!
